  • Patent number: 5176713
Abstract: A non-aqueous liquid heavy duty laundry detergent composition in the form of a suspension of builder salt in liquid nonionic surfactant is stabilized against phase separation by the addition of small amounts of low density filler, such as hollow plastic or glass microspheres. The low density particulate filler is added in an amount to equalize the densities of the continuous liquid phase and the dispersed phase.

  • Patent number: 4888123
Abstract: A detergent composition contains a detergent active material, a carbonate builder, such as sodium carbonate, and a calcium containing compound ideally selected from specific calcium pyrophosphates, as an antideposition agent. The latter is characterized by a defined calcium influence test. Preferred calcium pyrophosphate compounds may be made by mixing solutions of calcium chloride and sodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate at a pH of less than 3.6 and removing the precipitate which forms.

  • Patent number: 4885101
Abstract: A detergent composition suitable for washing and softening fabrics comprises a detergent active material, a detergency builder such as sodium tripolyphosphate and a fabric softening clay material, such as a smectite clay, which is ground to a particle size of 150 to 2000 microns. The use of ground clay avoids the use of dusty powdered clay and avoids the need for costly agglomeration while providing surprisingly good softening benefits.

  • Patent number: 4867901
Abstract: There is disclosed herein improved processes for the preparation of mixtures of alkali metal salts of 1-hydroxy-3-oxa-1,2,4,5-pentane tetracarboxylate and alkali metal salts of 3,6-dioxa-1,2,4,5,7,8-octane hexacarboxylate wherein D,L-tartaric acid is employed and recovered by lowering the pH of the reaction medium to within the range of from about 7 to about 9.5. At the reduced pH calcium D,L-tartrate precipitates and is easily separated. The recovered tartrate may be recycled to the synthesis reaction to prepare further product.
