  • Patent number: 7336744
Abstract: A digital baseband (DBB) radio frequency (RF) receiver used for receiving and processing a wireless communication signal. The DBB RF receiver includes a demodulator, an analog to digital converter (ADC) and a digital cross-talk compensation module. The demodulator outputs analog real and imaginary signal components on real and imaginary signal paths, respectively, in response to receiving the communication signal. The ADC receives the analog real and imaginary signal components and outputs respective digital real and imaginary signal components. The digital cross-talk compensation module receives the digital real and imaginary signal components, estimates the cross-talk interference caused by each of the signal components, and outputs digital real and imaginary cross-talk compensated signal components.

  • Patent number: 7333539
Abstract: A digital filter is disclosed, the filter comprising a device for determining the initial condition of a partial filter input, using a partitioned filter input signal, and partitioned filter input coefficients and a device for determining the initial condition of a partial filter output, using a partitioned filter output signal, and partitioned filter output coefficients, and a device for realising said digital filter as a sum of outputs of Finite Impulse Response (“FIR”) filter elements, wherein inputs of the FIR filter elements are dependent upon said partial filter input initial condition and said partial filter output initial condition, and said current block of filter input signal values.

  • Patent number: 7330523
Abstract: Frequency offset estimation apparatus for estimating the offset from a predetermined centre frequency of an input signal carrying a plurality of frequency shifted symbols, the apparatus comprising: a demodulator for demodulating the input signal to estimate the symbols; a first filter for forming a first estimate of the offset by determining the average of a first predetermined number of the last maxima and minima of the instantaneous frequency difference between the input signal and a signal at the centre frequency; a second filter for forming a second estimate of the offset by determining the average of the values of the instantaneous frequency difference between the input signal at the centre frequency associated with the estimation by the demodulator of those of the symbols having the greatest positive and negative frequency shifts; and selector for selecting the first estimate or the second estimate as an output estimate of the frequency error.

  • Patent number: 7315592
Abstract: A noise cancellation system configured to isolate and process a common mode noise signal to generate a cancellation signal. The cancellation signal is combined with a differential signal to cancel unwanted differential mode noise that coupled onto the differential signal. In one embodiment a multi-channel communication system utilizes two or more channels that are in close proximity to other alien channels. A common mode signal isolation unit is configured to isolate common mode noise. The common mode noise signal is processed with a filter or other means to generate a cancellation signal. The cancellation signal is combined with the differential signal to thereby cancel noise that coupled onto the differential signal. The processed common mode noise signal may be made to approximate the differential mode noise signal. The common mode signal may be obtained from a center tap of a transformer, or a sensing winding of a three winding transformer.

  • Patent number: 7315575
Abstract: A method is provided for an equalization strategy for compensating channel distortions in a dual-polarization optical transport system wherein the received signal includes a complex signal of a first transmitted polarization component and a complex signal of a second transmitted polarization component. In a first step, a blind self recovery mode used a blind adaptation algorithm in calculating and modifying multiple complex equalizer transfer function coefficients to enables recovery of only the complex signal of the first transmitted polarization component. In a second step, equalization is performed in a training mode for recovery of the complex signals of the first and second transmitted polarization components. In a third step, equalization is performed in a data directed mode. The method is suited for a digital signal processing implementation in a coherent receiver.
