  • Patent number: 8574152
Abstract: An arrangement is described in which an endoscope 3 inserted into the pharynx of the patient B is used to visually examine the vibrations of the vocal cords 2, while using light that contains little or no infrared light. At the same time, an oscillogram of the vibrations of the vocal cords is plotted, showing the sequence of motion of the vocal cords. The latter purpose is served by an emitter 1, which is attached to the throat of the patient B below the vocal cords 2 and which produces light in the near infrared range (NIR). Using a mirror 5 that reflects infrared light, the light modulated by the vibration of vocal cords is coupled out and fed to a sensor 6, which, together with an evaluating unit 9, detects and evaluates the vocal cord signals.

  • Patent number: 8460180
Abstract: An endoscopic lens cleaning apparatus includes an end cap, a lens, first and second magnets, one or more guide rails to couple housings for the first and second magnets, and a wiper assembly that is attached to and capable of gliding along the guide rail. The wiper assembly houses a wiper magnet that interacts with the first and second magnets. At least one of the wiper magnet or first and second magnets is an electromagnet, coupled to a power supply via a switch. A controller alternates the polarity of current supplied to the electromagnet to cause the wiper assembly to glide along the rail. A wiper attached to the wiper assembly likewise glides along the lens, thereby cleaning it. The controller is programmable, and can operate in continuous, intermittent, or as needed cleaning modes.

  • Patent number: 8419621
Abstract: A capsule medical system includes a capsule medical apparatus, a selecting unit, and a control unit. The capsule medical apparatus is introduced inside a subject and includes an imaging unit for taking an in-vivo image of the subject, a treating unit for treating a living tissue in the subject, and a driving unit for contributing to movement of the capsule medical apparatus. The selecting unit selects a treatment target of the treating unit from the in-vivo image. The control unit determines a relative distance between the treatment target and the treating unit, and moves the capsule medical apparatus in an imaging direction of the imaging unit by a distance corresponding to the relative distance using the driving unit.

  • Patent number: 8353816
Abstract: A capsule endoscope is swallowed by a patient, to capture images from inner wall surfaces of patient's digestive tract, while detecting imaging positions of the capsule endoscope. A doctor observes the images captured by the capsule endoscope, to select an aimed point image that contains a portion suspected of a lesion, and some images that represent pass points on an insertion route of a balloon endoscope. While a probing tip of the balloon endoscope is being inserted into the patient for the sake of thorough examination of the suspected portion, a degree of similarity between an image captured by the balloon endoscope and an image of a destination point, which is one of the pass points and the aimed point, is detected to judge by the similarity whether the probing tip has reached the destination point or not. So the doctor can get the probing tip to the aimed point easily.
