  • Patent number: 5108071
Abstract: A laminar flow control valve has a valve housing with an inlet and an outlet, an orifice plate, a poppet, an operating mechanism such as an electrically powered proportional solenoid, and a mechanism for realigning the poppet and orifice plate to maintain selected surfaces of those components in substantially parallel relation. The gaseous flow is throttled between respective parallel surfaces of the orifice plate and poppet such that the volumetric flow rate is linearly proportional to the pressure differential across the parallel surfaces. The poppet is mounted to a stem of the operating mechanism so as to be free to move in more than one plane relative to the orifice plate. In the embodiment illustrated, the poppet is free to swivel so that the metering surfaces "self-align" each time the valves close. The preferred embodiment of the invention utilizes a flat orifice plate and poppet. The poppet is attached to a stem of the operating mechanism by mechanical means.

  • Patent number: 5102095
Abstract: The flow restrictor is a unitary one-piece element that can be fabricated from either metal or plastic by casting or molding. In use, it is press fitted into a bore in a solenoid valve body to provide a certain restrictive effect. It has a circular cylindrical central core that has a series of flanges that are axially spaced by gaps. Each flange has a circular outer edge that is interrupted by at least one axially extending through-notch. These notches are arranged to provide a tortuous path for the fluid flow, and sized to create a desired restriction. The restrictor provides two parallel flow paths, one, the tortuous path just described, and two, a through-hole through the core of the restrictor.

  • Patent number: 5102096
Abstract: The invention is directed to a connection that can be easily made, produced at little expense, and can carry heavy loads. A housing block has a receiving bore with undercut portions, embodied by a groove, that extend over circumferential regions of this bore. A magnet valve has primary flange segments formed onto the valve body, which along their end face which face toward the opening of the receiving bore of the housing block are conically limited in cross section. These flange segments which extend over circumferential regions of the magnet valve body engage the undercut portions, formed in accordance with the cross section of the flange segments, in the manner of a bayonet mount type of connection. The connection is particularly suitable for use in hydraulic vehicle brake systems, where particularly strong forces between the magnet valve and the housing block must be absorbed.

  • Patent number: 5099867
Abstract: A sealed valve body housing a rotary valve rotated by a spindle. The spindle is connected to a disc mounted in a chamber in the valve body adjacent a valve body wall. Polyphase drive coils on the valve body wall induce a current in the disc, causing it to rotate. A pulse sensor mounted on the valve body detects the rotative position of the disc and a counter signals the power source to stop movement of the valve. The periphery of the disc is notched to permit the pulses to pass through the rotating disc and be counted. The torque of the disc can be increased through use of more sets of coils, more discs or gears interconnecting the spindle and the rotary valve.

  • Patent number: 5098063
Abstract: A valve has a housing having a nonrotatable polygonal-section stem centered on a valve axis and a spindle coaxial with the stem, projecting axially therefrom, and formed with at least one peripheral tooth. A valve actuator has an electric drive motor having a housing and a drive shaft projecting from the housing along the axis and a sleeve fixed to the drive-motor housing coaxially with the shafts and formed with a seat complementarily engageable with the polygonal-section stem. Thus the sleeve and drive-motor housing are rotationally locked to the stem. A coupling fixed on the drive shaft fits complementarily over the spindle at the tooth thereof to rotationally interconnect the spindle and drive shaft and a rotary potentiometer in the sleeve between the coupling and the drive motor has a rotary part fixed on the drive shaft and a nonrotating part fixed on the motor housing.

  • Patent number: 5095942
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system of adjustable preformed ductwork for the conveyance of a fluid. The system uses a distribution box which includes an upper portion having a plurality of walls and a bottom plate. The distribution box may act either as a diffuser boot or as a splitter box. The distribution box is joined to interconnecting duct lines by adaptor conduits. The adaptor conduits are duct line which are adapted at one end for connection to an opening in a wall and are adapted at the other end for connection to adjoining duct line. A valve having a housing, a first cone and a second cone is also included in the system either in a duct line or in an adaptor conduit. The first and the second cone have matching apertures. The second cone is rotatable within the first cone such that the matching apertures may be selectively aligned or misaligned to adjust the flow of the fluid through the ductwork system.

  • Patent number: 5094426
Abstract: Metering valve assembly having a poppet movable relative to a valve seat for controlling communication through an orifice. The poppet is urged toward the valve seat with a closing force, and the poppet can be adjusted gradually to provide a fine adjustment of the communication through the orifice. An actuator is operably connected to the poppet to overcome the closing force and move the poppet rapidly to a preset position. When the actuator is not actuated the closing force urges the poppet toward the valve seat to provide a positive shut-off.
