  • Patent number: 6475081
Abstract: An agricultural combine having a supporting structure that is driven by ground engaging wheels at a harvesting speed by a propulsion assembly. The combine is also provided with a threshing assembly that is driven by a variable torque sensing drive. The variable torque sensing drive is manipulated by pressurized hydraulic fluid. A hydraulic sensor in hydraulic communication with the variable torque sensing drive provides an actual hydraulic pressure signal that is directed to an electronic controller. An operator control in the operator's cab of the combine provides a loss rate signal that is also directed to the electronic controller. The electronic controller converts the loss rate signal into a desired hydraulic pressure signal. The electronic controller regulates the forward speed (harvesting speed) of the combine so that the desired hydraulic pressure signal is equal to the actual pressure signal.

  • Patent number: 6468154
Abstract: A device for adjusting the opening width of vibrating sieves in a cleaning mechanism of combine harvesters is arranged on and vibrates directly with the sieves or the sieve frame. The device includes an electric-motor-driven adjusting mechanism which actuates in a direction along an axis which differs from the direction in which the sieve is vibrating. A detector is activated when a particular sieve opening width is achieved. When the detector is activated, the particular opening width is associated with a position of the adjusting mechanism as measured by a position sensor, thereby allowing calibration of further adjustments to the sieve opening.

  • Patent number: 6460318
Abstract: A lawn mower includes a front wheel suspension system as well as a rear wheel suspension system. The front wheel suspension system includes upper and lower suspension struts that are pivotably connected between a main frame of the lawn mower and a longitudinal suspension strut that is connected to a front wheel. A spring is connected between an extension of the upper suspension strut and a front transverse member of the main frame. The rear wheel suspension system includes upper and lower links that are pivotably connected between vertical struts that are connected between upper and lower frame members of the main frame and a motor mount. A spring is connected between a spring bracket extending from the upper frame member and either the motor mount or a motor mounted in the motor mount. In order to prevent scalping while turning, a floating cutter deck is suspended from the front and rear wheel suspension systems rather than from the main frame or chassis of the mower.

  • Patent number: 6422937
Abstract: A method and system of harvesting crops involves cutting and threshing the crop, separating graff from straw, and returning the straw to the field. This is carried out in a harvesting unit of the pull type having a graff storage tank. The collected graff is moved to a stationary cleaning mill in a different location by a truck. Storage of the graff prior to cleaning is avoided and the cleaning mill, and preferably the harvesting unit and vehicle, are designed to make this possible.

  • Patent number: 6421996
Abstract: A harvester includes an integral two-section baling device with the section movement designed to provide both a bale discharge function and a transport height reduction function. In one embodiment, one section of the device includes rollers which follow a downwardly sloped ramp as the sections are opened relative to each other. The sloped ramped additionally serves as a portion of a finished bale handler and bale support. In a second embodiment, an additional hydraulic cylinder system controls the downward movement of the opened sections towards the transport position. Existing baler functions are advantageously utilized to provide transport height reduction with a minimal amount of additional hardware, and the operator can switch between transport and operational modes quickly and easily.

  • Patent number: 6397571
Abstract: The combine of the present invention is provided with an internal combustion engine. An electronic engine controller is used to monitor and control the operation of the engine. The electronic engine controller stores at least two power curves for controlling the engine. The first power curve has a higher horsepower output than the second power curve. A harvesting assembly detector signals the electronic engine controller with a corn head signal if a corn head is mounted to the combine, or a grain platform signal if a grain platform is mounted to the combine. If a corn head is mounted to the combine the electronic engine controller derates the engine and works on the second power curve. If the electronic engine controller receives a grain platform signal, the electronic engine controller works on the higher horsepower first power curve.

  • Patent number: 6389786
Abstract: A riding mower having two side cutting units and a front cutting unit operatively connected to a traction frame. Each side cutting unit can pivot about a substantially vertical axis relative to the traction frame when impact shocks occur on the outer sides of the cutting units. A shock absorber cushions and absorbs such impact shocks, and resists the pivoting motion of the side cutting units, in a bi-directional fashion to be effective during forward or reverse motion of the traction frame. The mower also includes a front cutting unit. The cutting units, both the side cutting units and the front cutting unit, have multiple cutting blades and a single drive motor mounted on the cutting unit for driving all the cutting blades contained on that cutting unit. The drive motor is mounted coaxially on the blade spindle of one of the cutting blades and adjacent blades on the cutting unit are driven by one or more drive belts arranged in straight belt runs.

  • Patent number: 6367234
Abstract: The invention is a grain tank which pivots about an axis transverse to the direction of travel to facilitate grain flow to the unloading system. The grain tank is sloped and curved to allow the grain to be easily and completely discharged from the tank. Grain is delivered from the clean grain system to a first auger which transports the grain to either a second auger or bubble up auger. The grain can enter the grain tank by the bubble up auger or may be discharged to the unloading system via a second auger. While unloading, the tank pivots from its lowest position to its highest position, only as needed, to maximize output.
