  • Patent number: 4830652
Abstract: A method for drawing glass sheets of crystallization-sensitive glass such as borosilicate glass or glass ceramic. A melt in a vat of a glass furnace is supplied through a feed channel to a drawing chamber from which a glass sheet is drawn perpendicularly upwardly essentially across a full width of the drawing chamber. The melt in the drawing chamber is heated by at least two current-charged precious metal strips at each of the opposite sides of a drawing plane in a region of the surface of the sheet. This heating occurs in sections at each side of the drawing plans so that the melt is sectionally heated and crystallization at walls of the drawing chamber lying opposite one another at the vertical drawing plane is effectively prevented. In addition, the drawing chamber can be sectionally covered by slides.

  • Patent number: 4783211
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved apparatus for locally heating selected portions of glass sheets conveyed through a tunnel type furnace on a roller conveyor. The apparatus comprises two localized heaters positioned within the furnace, supporting members for supporting the localized heaters, at least one portion of each of the supporting members extending into the furnace, and a drive mechanism positioned externally of the furnace and adapted to reciprocatingly moving the localized heaters in a direction transversely to the direction of conveyance of the glass sheets in a substantially synchronized relation to movement of the conveyed glass sheets so that the selected portions of the glass sheets are locally heated by the localized heaters and can thereafter be bent, at a bending station, to a much smaller radius of curvature than the rest of the glass sheet.

  • Patent number: 4608074
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a gob distributor of an IS or RIS machine for manufacturing hollow glass articles. The apparatus comprises a hydraulic drive, which is connectible to a position control device associated with the gob distributor, so as to move the distributor in oscillating or swinging motions. The hydraulic drive is controlled by a valve which, in turn, is actuated by a computer unit. The electronic arrangement of the apparatus includes an adapter, a digital-analog converter operatively connectible between the valve and the adapter, a parallel interface and connectible to the latter, a computer, a memory, and a synchronizer. The apparatus affords swift, precise, and controlled deposition of a glass gob which leads to the production of a parison in glass article manufacture.
