Patent number: 7117248Abstract: An apparatus and method for sending a message to a wireless device over a wireless network includes receiving the message transmitted over an external network in communication with the wireless network or a gateway in the network. The message includes a deletion instruction to delete the message if the message is not delivered to the wireless device. The wireless network or gateway attempts to deliver the message to the wireless device over the wireless network or determines whether the wireless device is capable of receiving the message, and carries out the expiration instruction by deleting the message.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2001Date of Patent: October 3, 2006Assignee: Bellsouth Intellectual Property CorporationInventor: Royce D. Patent number: 7085845Abstract: Collecting user preference information related to a playing media recording is accomplished by gathering descriptive information related to the playing media recording from a media player program presenting the playing media recording and determining if tags are embedded in the media recording and gathering descriptive information related to the playing media recording from the tags embedded in the playing media recording, if the tags exist. Further, determining if a table of contents exists on the media recording and gathering a table of contents for a collection containing the playing media recording by identifying the collection using a concatenation of track lengths identifier generation technique, if the table of contents exists. Then assembling the descriptive information into a media recording information packet and sending the media recording information packet to a server computer, resulting in a collection of user preference information related to the playing media recording.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2002Date of Patent: August 1, 2006Inventors: Mark L. Patent number: 7076528Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved system and method for an automated electronic messaging system employing at least one host computer and at least one designated device, such as a mobile device. A forwarding agent sends a message from the host computer to the designated device. The designated device receives the forwarded message, sends a response message directly to a recipient and sends a copy message, which is associated with the response message, to the host computer. The response message is configured using an address associated with the host computer.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2001Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Mauro Premutico

Patent number: 7072984Abstract: A system and method is provided for enabling an electronic device to efficiently access information content. A server browser accesses the information content over a network. The accessed information content is retrieved and adapted for presentation for the electronic device. A serializer dynamically formats the adapted information content according to a client browser. The client browser receives and presents the information content on the electronic device. An event translator is included to provide additional compatibility with commercially available client browsers.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2001Date of Patent: July 4, 2006Assignee: Novarra, Inc.Inventors: Leonid Polonsky, Francis Edward Simon Hunt, James Richard Werwath, Kevin Nigel Wallace, Matthew Frank Trapani

Patent number: 7043557Abstract: A method and system thereof for reducing the energy consumed when decoding an encoded and synchronized multimedia data stream, wherein the data stream is non-preemptable and subject to precedence constraints. In a client-server environment, the server delivers to the client the stream for decoding. The client has a processor operating on a discrete variable-voltage power supply. Prior to transmitting the stream to the client, the server produces an execution schedule according to the precedence constraints. The server also assigns a voltage setting for each task in the schedule, wherein each task decodes a frame in the stream without preemption. The server transmits the execution schedule and voltage settings to the client with the encoded data stream. The schedule and voltage settings reduce energy consumption by the client while satisfying multimedia timing constraints.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Malena Rosa Mesarina, Yoshio Frank Turner

Patent number: 7013344Abstract: A distributed processing system, program product and method of executing a computer program distributed across a plurality of computers. First, interested participants register and provide a commitment for available excess computer capacity. Participants may enter a number of available hours and machine characteristics. A normalized capacity may be derived from the machine characteristics and a normalized excess capacity may be derived from the number of hours committed for the participant. New registrants may be assigned benchmark tasks to indicate likely performance. Parties may purchase capacity for executing large computer programs and searches. The computer program is partitioned into multiple independent tasks of approximately equal size and the tasks are distributed to participants according to available excess capacity. A determination is made whether each distributed task will execute within a selected range of other distributed tasks and, if not, tasks may be reassigned.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2002Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Nimrod Megiddo

Patent number: 6978316Abstract: A messaging system and method suitable for use with wireless mobile terminals. The system includes a message server for receiving and sending messages and converting messages to a baseline such as an XML representation; a message processor for controlling the system's operation; a database for storing information about messaging capabilities of mobile terminals; and a transcoder for filtering the baseline representation according to the capability of a mobile terminal. A subscriber enters a profile that includes the messaging capability of the mobile terminal, which is stored in the database. When the server receives a message for the subscriber's terminal, it converts the message to the baseline. The transcoder filters the baseline according to the capability of the terminal, and returns the result to the server for format and protocol conversion and sending to the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2002Date of Patent: December 20, 2005Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Aamir Ghaffar, Patrick James Richards, Jr., John Wayne Ross, Jr., Daniel Melvin Smith, Matthew Bunkley Trevathan
