Abstract: A movie editor converts a received movie into a proxy format, and creates a texture strip representing the frames of the movie. An editor can use the texture strip to edit the movie, rather than editing the movie directly. Deep tags and/or special effects can be defined for the texture strip using a graphical interface. The graphical interface enables movies to be combined into a playback product according to a control structure graphically presented in the graphical interface.

Abstract: Systems and methods may provide for selectively recording of at least part of a program based on an occurrence of at least one video or audio characteristic in the program. The systems and methods may involve receiving or transmitting a program including a video stream and an audio stream, and monitoring at least one of the video stream and the audio stream for at least one video or audio characteristic. Based on the occurrence of the video or audio characteristic, at least part of the program may be recorded or instructions for recording at least part of the program may be transmitted. In some embodiments, only a segment of the program may be recorded or instructed to be recorded. In some embodiments, segments from a plurality of programs may be recorded and associated together. In such embodiments, the segments may be presented as a single recording.

Abstract: A home media server includes a processor, a storage medium; and machine-readable code, stored on the non-transitory storage medium, the non-transitory storage medium includes instructions which when executed, cause the home media server to receive downloadable instructions, an edited set of data and analysis data. The downloadable instructions, when executed by the processor cause the home media server to search for and obtain media content associated with an edited video program. The instructions also cause the home media server to receive the edited set of data corresponding to editing steps for assembly of the edited video program, and to emulate assembly of the edited video program utilizing the media content obtained by the home media server to created an emulated video program.

Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed that relate to providing commentary for video content. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a method comprising receiving and storing an input of commentary data from each of a plurality of commentary input devices, and also, for each input of commentary data, receiving and storing identification metadata identifying a commentator, for each input of commentary data, synchronization metadata that synchronizes the commentary data with the associated media content item is received and stored. The method further comprises receiving a request from a requesting media presentation device for commentary relevant to a specified media content item and a specified user, identifying relevant commentary data based upon social network information for the specified user, and sending the relevant commentary data to the requesting client device.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a video preview generator that quickly generates preview displays of different parts of a video. The preview generator includes a skimming tool and a picture generator. The skimming tool is moveable across a representation of a video clip in order to identify different video pictures within the video clip. As the skimming tool moves across the video clip representation, the picture generator identifies and displays different video pictures for different positions of the skimming tool on the video clip. For at least some of the positions of the skimming tool, the picture generator presents a video picture that is not at the location identified by the skimming tool, but rather is at a nearby location and is easier to present in the preview than the video picture at the identified location.

Abstract: A method for recording user content within a digital video is provided. The method may display a visual timeline associated with the digital video at a user interface, reserve one or more frames of the digital video for insertion of the user content, temporally indicate the reserved frames on the visual timeline using one or more visual tags, retrievably store the user content at a storage device, associate the user content to the reserved frames of the digital video, and enable the user content to be played back in parallel with the digital video at the reserved frames. The user content may include any one or more of text data, audio data, image data and video data. The reserved frames may be selected based on input provided by a user through the user interface.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a playback apparatus, a playback method, a program, a recording medium, and a data structure that enable interactive operations when playing back AV content. A controller 34 obtains an order list of audio stream numbers in advance. In response to an instruction to switch audio by a user, the controller obtains the audio stream number subsequent to the audio stream number which is being played back. It is then checked whether a stream that is found to be playable by the playback apparatus is included in a main clip or a sub clip, and the main clip referred to by the Main Path is read together with the clip in which the corresponding audio stream is multiplexed. Abstract: Systems and methods for performing recordings with a network recording device when a user's equipment fails are provided. The network recording device may determine that a user's equipment has failed in any suitable manner. In response to determining that the user's equipment has failed, the network recording device may perform recordings that were originally scheduled or selected to be performed with the user's equipment. The network recording device may identify which recordings to perform by communicating with the user's equipment. In some embodiments, the user's equipment may anticipate a failure, or fail while maintaining a communications link with the network recording device. In such embodiments, the user's equipment may direct the network recording device to perform certain recordings. The network recording device may provide recordings to the user's equipment as on-demand offerings, or may transfer the recordings to the user's equipment.

Abstract: A method and system for recording a media content onto a media player are disclosed. A recording interface of the media player is unlocked by a media recorder using a key. Next, the media player receives the media content from the media recorder through the recording interface. The media content is stored onto a storage of the media player, where the storage resides within the media player prior to receiving the media content from the media recorder. The media player includes a mechanism for playing the media content. Then, the recording interface of the media player is locked by the media recorder. In this manner, a way is provided to distribute media content while also protecting against the improper copying of media content.

The central location is able to provide the edited movie in a format suitable to the display capabilities of the viewing device of the viewer requesting the edited movie.
