  • Patent number: 9131150
Abstract: The subject technology provides embodiments for tracking a user's face/head (or another object) using one or more cameras provided by a computing device. Embodiments implement exposure sweeping based on an average intensity of a current scene to a target intensity for a given image. If a face is not detected, an exposure duration and/or gain may be adjusted and the face detection is performed again. Once the face is detected, an average intensity of a virtual bounding box surrounding the detected face is determined and exposure sweeping may be performed solely within the virtual bounding box to reach a target intensity. When the average intensity is within a predetermined threshold of the target intensity, the detected face may be at an optimal exposure. Embodiments also provide for switching to another camera(s) of the computing device when not detecting a face in the image upon performing a full exposure sweep.

  • Patent number: 9106822
Abstract: An image apparatus (10) includes an apparatus frame (224), a capturing system (228), a control feature, an inertial sensor assembly (218), and a control system (216). The control feature influences the image (258) captured by the capturing system (228). The inertial sensor assembly senses motion of the image apparatus. The control system adjusts the control feature based on the sensed motion from the sensor assembly. Thus, the control feature can be easily controlled by the controlled movement of the image apparatus. For example, the inertial sensor assembly can include one or more angular inertial sensors; one or more gyroscopes; and/or one or more accelerometers.

  • Patent number: 9106857
Abstract: A system and method for limiting fixed pattern noise (FPN) in a time delay and integration (TDI) mode of operation of a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) imaging device is disclosed. The system and method provide for each line time, selecting a pixel for each column of photosensitive elements in the along track direction to capture dark information such that the selected pixel does not correspond to a portion of a scene that was previously selected to capture dark information in a current TDI period. The dark information for the selected pixels is captured and summed for each column of photosensitive elements. This sum is then used during a next TDI time period to subtract FPN effects from the output of the corresponding column. This allows the dark sum information to be constantly updated while the image sensor is in use while only decreasing the responsitivity by (N?1)/N relative to an N pixel column of a traditional TDI operation.

  • Patent number: 9088741
Abstract: A pre-amplifier (column region unit) of a solid-state imaging device including a pixel-signal controller. The pixel-signal controller, for each vertical signal line, detects the level of each pixel signal independently by a pixel-signal detector on the output side of a pixel-signal amplifier, and sets a gain independently to the pixel-signal amplifier according to the level of the signal. At a subsequent stage of the solid-state imaging device, an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter and a signal extending unit are provided. The A/D converter digitizes a pixel signal, and the digitized pixel signal is corrected by a gain set to the pixel-signal amplifier with reference to a classification signal from the pixel-signal detector, so that the dynamic range of signals of one screen is extended.
