Abstract: A tree shelter comprises two parts joined by clips along a longitudinal axis. Each part comprises a funnel portion and a base portion. Each funnel portion is formed to allow the shelter to mimick the natural bending of a tree stem under the action of wind and is contoured internally to increase the area available for condenstation and evaporation of moisture. Each base part is formed to restrict growth of weed around the base of the sheltered tree. The shelter acts to protect the tree whilst permitting its natural growth in its early years.
Abstract: Agricultural mulch sheeting which provides soil moisture retention and weed control during the growing season, yet is readily degradable when harrowed into the soil after harvest, comprises a creped natural kraft paper coated on both sides with a polyvinylidene chloride latex dispersion. The coating on one side of the sheet includes carbon black which provides the opacity to prevent weed growth while also yielding a reversible sheet which may be installed to absorb or reflect the sun's rays. The mulch may also include a sleeve of the same material sealed to the upper surface of the main sheet to form a conduit for irrigating water which seeps into the underlying soil through a row of puctures in the sheet.
Abstract: A modular and stackable planter is provided which forms a botanically integrated unit for growing plants. The sections are generally cylindrical, but each section of the planter includes a plurality of radially-extending wall surfaces at its upper end and a plurality of corresponding radially-recessed surfaces at its lower end. The surfaces at the upper and lower ends are peripherally offset from one another to, together, complementarily define plant-receiving receptacles. The sections are dimensioned so that the base of one engages the top of the one below it; and provision is made for vertical water transmission throughout the stack of units and for root aeration.
