Abstract: A heliostat optimized to be positioned near a skylight or other aperture is disclosed. The heliostat comprises a plurality of reflective elements arranged in a substantially planar array, each element being mounted so as to be rotatable about a longitudinal axis of rotation. A first motor rotates the array about an axis substantially perpendicular to the plane of the array; and a second motor rotates the reflective elements about their respective axes of rotation. A processor provides control signals to operate the first motor as required to orient the array such that the respective axes of rotation of the reflective elements are substantially perpendicular to an azimuth to the sun and to operate the second motor as required to rotate the reflective elements about their respective axes of rotation to position the reflective element to reflect the sun's light to a target area.

  • Patent number: 9880453
Abstract: A projector laser light source includes two laser point sources, two lens groups, a color wheel, a reflector, a yellow reflector, a green reflector, and an integration rod. The color wheel includes a yellow phosphor layer, a reflective layer, and a green phosphor layer. The integration rod collects light focused on a third position. The positions of yellow phosphor layer and the reflective layer respectively correspond to a fourth position in a first timing and a second timing. Laser emitted by the laser point sources is focused on the third position and the fourth position by two optical Fourier transforms performed by the lens groups, and the laser point sources and the lens groups are combined with the specially designed optical configuration of the green phosphor layer, the reflector, the yellow reflector, and the green reflector. Therefore, two sets of three primary light sources are focused on the third position.

  • Patent number: 9869438
Abstract: A system for dynamically projecting a logo onto a surface includes a light source, moveable lenses, and an actuator. The light source emits light toward the surface. The lenses are positioned with between the light source and the surface, with each lens having multiple transparent portions configured to permit some of the emitted light to pass through the lens in a corresponding light pattern. Each corresponding light pattern forms a different part of the logo. The actuator moves the lenses with respect to the emitted light in response to a control signal to thereby cause projection of the logo onto the surface. A vehicle includes a body having a door, road wheels in contact with a road surface, and the system which projects the logo onto the road surface proximate the door. The controller may be programmed to execute a method for projecting the logo.

  • Patent number: 9860494
Abstract: This invention overcomes disadvantages of the prior art by providing a system and method that allows for the calibration of a display system using one or more cameras whose lenses are not modeled, or are modeled with limited accuracy, and are potentially incapable of imaging the entire projector system. The illustrative system and method generally relies on well-established models of the projectors, rather than well-established models of the cameras. Illustratively, the cameras serve mainly to map the projectors into one coordinate system, where the overlap between the projectors can be established very precisely using a camera, even if the model of the camera lens properties is not known, or known only minimally.
