  • Patent number: 7342392
Abstract: Compensation for a switching regulator is attained by developing a compensation signal for a switching regulator that is independent of changes in the switching frequency. The regulator operational frequency is established in accordance with a repetitive ramp signal of constant slope and adjustable frequency. The voltage of the ramp signal is monitored and an offset signal is derived therefrom. The peak value of the ramp signal, detected during monitoring, is used to derive the offset signal. Initiation of the compensation occurs at the same duty cycle point during each switching cycle and thus is independent of switching frequency. The compensation signal may have a linear or non-linear slope.

  • Patent number: 6498735
Abstract: A switching power supply unit includes first and second switching circuits which alternately turn first and second switching elements on and off with an intermediate period in which both are turned off, and energy is stored in a primary winding of a transformer during an ON period of the first switching element and the energy is discharged from a secondary winding of the transformer during an OFF period of the first switching element. A control circuit includes an OFF period extending circuit connected to a control terminal of the first switching element, such that a transistor remains turned on for a desired period even after the energy has been discharged from the secondary winding, extending the OFF period of the first switching element for the desired period. In a light load operation, a phototransistor in the second control circuit is turned on so that the ON period of the second switching element will be shorter than the time required to discharge the energy from the secondary winding.

  • Patent number: 6424547
Abstract: A power supply module includes a plurality of power supply modules. One of the power supply units is designated as a master power supply unit. Other power supply units are handled as expansion power supply units. The power supply modules can be connected in parallel on a DIN rail so that the master power supply unit may supply an external AC voltage to the expansion power supply units. • Patent number: 5701239
Abstract: An installation for transmission of electric power by means of high-voltage direct current has two converters (SRI, SRII), each of which is connected to an alternating-voltage network (NI, NII) and which are connected to each other through a dc connection (L). One converter (SRI) is controlled as a rectifier and another converter (SRII) is controlled as an inverter. One converter (SRI) is current-controlling and another converter (SRII) is voltage-controlling. The installation has means (VARC.sub.rect) adapted, at such a change of the control angle (.alpha..sub.rect) of the current-controlling converter (SRI) that the angle reaches a limit of a predetermined interval (.alpha..sub.max nom rect -.alpha..sub.min nom rect) to control, by means of the voltage-controlling converter (SRII), the direct voltage (Ud) of the transmission in such a way that said change is limited.

  • Patent number: RE37510
Abstract: A power converter with a self synchronized synchronous rectifier includes one or two drive windings to provide positive drive to the control electrodes of the controlled switches (FETs) of a self synchronized synchronous rectifier. The polarities of these windings am selected so that the switched devices are driven appropriately to rectify the periodic signal output of the secondary winding of the power transformer of the converter. In some arrangements one or two drive windings are included as extra windings in the power transformer and connected to provide the proper polarity drive signals. The turn ratios of the drive windings to the other windings are selected to provide the proper gate drive signal levels. In an alternative arrangement a separate drive transformer may be provided to supply the gate drive signals.

  • Patent number: RE39976
Abstract: An N-phase switching voltage regulator includes N current sensing elements which carry respective phase currents. The voltages present at the switch node sides of the sensing elements are summed and presented to an amplifier which also receives the regulator's output voltage, to produce an output which is proportional to the regulator's total output current Iout. The invention also provides a means for direct insertion of total inductor output current information into a regulator's voltage-mode control loop, to provide active voltage positioning (AVP) for the output voltage. A voltage based on total inductor output current is summed with the regulator's reference voltage; this sum and Vout are applied to the voltage control error amplifier, the output of which is processed to operate the regulator's switches. This enables the regulator's output to have a desired droop impedance and to provide AVP of Vout as a function of total filtered inductor output current Iout(fltr).
