  • Patent number: 8349113
Abstract: A method sticks onto a curved surface of a substrate a functional film (4) that has a substantially planar initial shape. To this end, the film (4) is retained on a deformable membrane (1) by connecting means (2) that allow portions of said film to slip relative to the membrane when said membrane is deformed. This reduces stresses that are created in the film by the deformation. The method is adapted for applying a functional film to an ophthalmic lens.

  • Patent number: 7243696
Abstract: An edge modification apparatus for the modification of at least part of edge of a panel. An edge follower with an edge contact roller to follow at least part of the profile of the panel. A support structure to allow movement of the edge follower relative to the panel. An edge sensor capable of determining the slope of the profile of the edge. A force applicator to apply a vectored force to the edge follower to press the at least one contact roller onto the edge of the panel. The force applicator is such that the resultant force to the edge follower is in a direction to press the at least one contact roller onto the edge and substantially not along the edge (save for optionally a very small component in the direction of travel of the edge follower along the profile) wherein relative movement between the edge follower and the planar object induces movement of the edge follower. The edge follower modifies the edge of the panel.

  • Patent number: 6471808
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a motor car steering wheel with an external shell made of carbon fibers begins with preparing a pile of sheet materials which is then hot molded to yield respective half-shells with a shape corresponding to that of respective halves of the steering wheel being manufactured. Next comes mechanical flattening of the front surfaces of the two half-shells, followed by mounting of the two half-shells above and under a steering wheel body formed by a metallic core covered by resin. The steering wheel body has lateral profile members which act as fixing supports for the two half-shells.

  • Patent number: 6146491
Abstract: The lining of lateral pipelines is effected from the service end by inserting a resin impregnated lining tube into the lateral using a push rod. The leading end of the push rod is attached to the liner by a relaeasble device so that once the liner is in place, and the rod pulled back, the liner detaches and remains in the lateral. The liner is held in folded state by straps which are broken as the rod is pulled back in that a rope attached to the leading end of the rod is trapped under the straps and breaks them one by one as the rod is retracted.

  • Patent number: 6143113
Abstract: A coating composition for the linerboard of corrugated paperboard provides water and grease resistance but is water vapor permeable, and thus permits a different mode of manufacture of corrugated paperboard when aqueous adhesives are employed in the assembly of the linerboards and corrugated medium; in particular the linerboards may be coated with the coating composition prior to assembly of the corrugated paperboard because the water vapor permeable coating permits escape of the water of the aqueous adhesive, during drying of the assembled components of the corrugated paperboard; the coating composition employs a styrene-acrylate copolymer and a C.sub.14 -C.sub.18 fatty acid complex of a metal ion having an oxidation state of at least 3, such as chromium.

  • Patent number: 6103044
Abstract: A backing film for incorporation as a backing layer in a resilient floor covering or a floor tile having at least two laminae and a method for making such a backing layer whereby wastage is reduced when the color of the upper lamina is changed. Where there are two backing films having two or three laminae making up the backing layer the intermediately colored film resulting from a change in the color of the upper lamina can be utilized without further processing on the second backing film where color is not essential. Where there are three laminae making up a backing film the desired color is introduced and established in the bottom lamina before the supply of the original color to the upper lamina is stopped. The film can then be turned over for use with the former bottom lamina becoming the upper lamina.
