Abstract: A powder metallurgical method of consolidating iron-based alloy powder, particularly white cast iron, to form a body of high density in which the powder is thermally cycled above and below the alpha-gamma transformation temperature of below 800.degree. C., and a stress of between 1.7 MPa and 34.5 MPa is simultaneously applied to the powder to form a high density consolidated body.

Abstract: The invention is concerned with the problem of joining ceramic components to metal components.A composite ceramic-metal component is proposed, e.g. a rotor disc for a gas turbine engine (see FIG. 2), in which the main body of the component is made from a ceramic, e.g. Silicon Nitride, but the areas at which attachment is to be made to a metal component is formed from metal compacted onto the ceramic by a hot isostatic pressing process. The method of manufacture described is to form a ceramic core with holes appropriately positioned in it where a connection is to be made to another component, surround the core with a powdered metal, e.g. a Nickel-based superalloy, ensuring that the holes also fill with powder, compacting the powder by hot isostatic pressing, and then machining away unwanted metal.
Abstract: A flowable material, or slurry, comprising a liquid vehicle and solid particulate material dispersed therein which will flow out flat in the form of a sheet. The material, upon exposure to the atmosphere, and either with or without the application of heat, will set up in a dimensionally stable form and can, thereafter, be sintered to form a solid article. The fraction of the vehicle of the composition which remains after the solvent evaporates, vaporizes during sintering and the final product consists only of the particulate material in sintered form.

Abstract: An improved, more convenient, more sensitive test for detection of certain malignancies in human and animal subjects is disclosed. Sera from test subjects is mixed with labeled DNA in the presence of an enzyme-conjugated resin. Sera from normal and cancerous subjects react differently with the resin, permitting a diagnosis of the subject.
Abstract: Methods and compositions are disclosed for neutralizing acidic components in petroleum refining units. The neutralizing agent comprises a member selected from the group of dimethylaminoethanol and dimethylisopropanolamine. The neutralizing agent may be added directly to the charge, in a reflux line, or directly to the overhead line of the refining unit. In those instances in which sour crude is to be refined, it is desirable that dimethylisopropanolamine be used in conjunction with the dimethylaminoethanol. The neutralizing agents are added in an amount sufficient to elevate the pH of the condensate (as measured at the accumulator) to within the pH range of 4.5-7.
Abstract: An aqueous antimony sol composition useful in restoring the activity of metal contaminated molecular sieve cracking catalysts which comprises a major portion of an aqueous antimony sol containing between 1-50% by weight of antimony oxide as Sb.sub.2 O.sub.5 and between 0.1-10% by weight of a compatible water-soluble surfactant which is capable of producing an oil-in-water emulsion and having an HLB of at least 8.0.
Abstract: A low-cost conductor, e.g. a printed circuit, is prepared by applying a mixture of a metallic powder and polymer on a substrate and curing the polymer, followed by an augmentation replacement reaction being effected to replace some of the metallic powder with a more noble metal in such a way that the total volume of deposited metal on the surface exceeds that of the original metal powder at that surface. This procedure produces a contiguous layer of conducting metal on the substrate. The conductors thus formed can easily be soldered without leaching using conventional tin-lead solders.

Abstract: A process and a product produced thereby, for forming rod or bar or tube stock or strip, comprising a sheath and a densified dispersion strengthened metal core. Powdered dispersion strengthened copper is put into a metal can and compressively reduced to size and density. The relationship between the tensile strength of the core when fully densified and the cold worked tensile strength of the can is important to the nature of the product.
