  • Patent number: 9968726
Abstract: A method of securing an access port to a vessel can include positioning an access port adjacent to a wall of the vessel. The access port can include an implantation passageway and a guidance passageway that is connected to the implantation passageway. The implantation passageway can be open, during the positioning of the access port, at a position proximal to a location at which the implantation passageway and the guidance passageway are connected. The method can further include forming an opening in the wall of the vessel via instruments that extend through the implantation passageway. The method can include securing the access port to the vessel such that the implantation passageway is in fluid communication with an interior of the vessel via the opening in the wall of the vessel. The method can also include sealing the implantation passageway at the position proximal to the guidance passageway.

  • Patent number: 9968724
Abstract: An artificial lung in a circulation apparatus can be monitored and be maintained in a safe condition without manual assistance. As an extracorporeal circulation mode starts, it is determined first whether or not gas exchange of the artificial lung is carried out within a normal range, based on oxygen concentration which is detected by an oxygen sensor positioned at a downstream place in the artificial lung. If the gas exchange is carried out within the normal range, an estimated value for gas supply volume of a gas blender is maintained. When oxygen concentration exceeding the normal range is detected, the gas blender is controlled so as to revise the gas supply volume downward. In addition, when oxygen concentration falls below the normal range, the gas blender is controlled so as to revise the gas supply volume upward.

  • Patent number: 9962478
Abstract: Systems and methods for performing a therapeutic red blood cell exchange procedure are disclosed. In one aspect, a system includes a first flow path for flowing whole blood from a patient. A separator communicates with the first flow path for separating at least red blood cells from plasma. Second and third flow paths communicate with the separator for respectively flowing the separated plasma and red blood cells from the separator. A flow controller is associated with the flow paths to control fluid communication between the flow paths. The controller is configured to perform the procedure to achieve a target fraction of patient cells remaining, target hematocrit, and a target patient fluid volume change at the completion of the procedure based on data input by the operator.

  • Patent number: 9962517
Abstract: Problems associated with BPH can be negated using the present ergonomically pre-contoured, valved urinary catheter. To insert, the flexible tee beam is oriented on axis with the upper catheter. It will self-toggle into the tee orientation once inside the bladder, because of a small-bore elastic tubing that extends full length inside the main catheter. The catheter assembly will remain in place until the user tugs down hard enough on the outside-the-body, small diameter, valve-actuation tensor to cause the tee beam to fold double and be small enough to be pulled from the urethra. Lesser tugs actuate the compact, distal-end valve to allow urine flow. The smooth outer surfaces of the catheter assembly will help assure that reproductive functions will not be affected.
