Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided to divide code blocks, such as blocks of quantized coefficient of image or video data, into smaller blocks and sub-blocks that can be processed in parallel using layered entropy coding and decoding scheme. This division is accomplished while still encoding the entire code block using the same layered entropy coding scheme.
Abstract: Methods and arrangements in video encoding and decoding entities. The methods and arrangements relate to the joint encoding of reference information associated with encoded video. The method and arrangement in a decoding entity relate to obtaining (402) a single syntax element associated with an encoded block Be, and identifying (404) a reference mode and one or more reference pictures based on the obtained syntax element. The method and arrangement further relate to-decoding (406) of the block Be based on the identified reference mode and one or more reference pictures, thus providing a decoded block, B, of pixels.

Abstract: Provided are methods and apparatuses for encoding and decoding a bit stream in a multilayer video system in which a base layer and a higher layer use different codecs. The decoding method includes: receiving a bit stream including a higher-layer stream and a base-layer stream, the higher-layer stream including at least one of an identifier for identifying a codec for the higher-layer stream, information indicating features of the higher-layer stream, and information indicating a relationship between the higher-layer stream and a lower-layer stream; demultiplexing the higher-layer stream and the base-layer stream from the bit stream; decoding the base-layer stream; and decoding the higher-layer stream based on the identifier and the information indicating the features of the higher-layer stream.
Abstract: A three-dimensional display apparatus according to an embodiment includes: a display unit including pixels arranged in a matrix form; and an optical plate opposed to the display unit, the optical plate functioning as a plurality of optical apertures which are extended nearly in a straight line manner in a second direction and arranged in a first direction. Each of the pixels is divided into M sub-pixels respectively comprising M color components arranged in the first direction where M is an integer of at least 1, and Q/B is an integer N, M×P/A is a non-integer, and (Q/B)/(P/A) is a non-integer, where P is a period of the optical apertures in the first direction, Q is a period of the optical apertures in the second direction, A is a period of the pixels in the first direction, and B is a period of the pixels in the second direction.
Abstract: A video stream is transcoded to provide a plurality of primary profiles. Individual frames of the video stream have a Presentation Time Stamp (PTS). A PTS is used as a token to identify particular frames to be encoded as Instantaneous Decoder Refresh (IDR) frames in each profile. An IDR frame period is determined, indicative of a desired number of video frames between two IDR frames. An IDR frame is inserted into each profile every IDR frame period. The IDR frames of each profile are aligned with the same IDR frames of the other profiles. The PTS of each IDR frame in each profile is monitored. Upon determining that a PTS is out of alignment, the next PTS of the affected profile is aligned with the corresponding PTS of remaining profiles. Backup transcoders produce backup profiles that are maintained in alignment with each other and with the primary profiles.
