Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of an astaxanthin pigment product obtained by semi-synthesis from marigold extract to substantially enhance the feeding and growth rates of commercially cultivated aquatic species when added to the feed mixture in concentrations useful in producing fish and shrimp coloration. More particularly, this product induces growth rates substantially greater than any currently available feed additive for salmon, trout and shrimp.

Abstract: A floatable raceway (1) for cultivating fish comprising a partially submersible tank (2) for containing fish having a base (5), opposing sidewalls (6), a gate assembly (8) having removable gates (10, 11) at a water discharge end of the tank (2), and an end wall assembly (7) at a water intake end of the tank (2) having a ramp (9) extending downwardly to the base (5) and towards the gate assembly (8). The raceway (1) also includes floats (3) extending the lengths of the sidewalls (6) for keeping a top of the tank (2) above water level, an airlift assembly (4) connectable to an air supply for introducing oxygenated water to the tank (2) at the water intake end, and a baffle (14) for directing the flow of water through the tank (2) along the base (5). The raceway (1) has a pair of screen gates (10) allowing the movement of fish wastes therethrough and a pair of stop gates (11) for substantially preventing water from discharging from the tank (2).
Abstract: A method of assisting the movement of a dog includes a carrying strap that is elongated and has a front end and a rear end. A first front leg strap and a second front leg strap are provided. Each of the first and second front leg straps has a first end and a second end. A first coupling assembly is adapted for selectively coupling each of the first and second ends of the first and second front leg straps to the front end of the carrying strap. Each of a pair rear leg straps includes a loop portion and an elongated portion. Each of the elongated portions is attached to and extends away from one of the loop portions. The elongated portions each have a free end. A second coupling assembly is adapted for selectively coupling each of the free ends to the rear end of the carrying strap.

Abstract: A major appliance or cabinet unit integrates an automatically refillable water bowl including a liquid level sensor and an electrical or mechanical valve in fluid communication with a source or water. In the preferred embodiment the appliance is a refrigerator freezer with plumbing to an ice maker or other accessory to which the bowl can interconnect, though the invention is equally applicable to other appliances such as non-combined refrigerators and freezers, stoves, ranges, dishwashers, trash compactors, and cabinet units. Various optional accessories are disclosed, including a fan for drying water spilled from the bowl. The fan may be used for another purpose in the appliance, as in a condensing unit, or may be provided separately. A sensor may be included to disable the fan in the presence of a pet. The appliance preferably includes a cavity into which the bowl is situated, along with an optional light for illuminating the cavity.

Abstract: The present invention includes a portable alley way having openings at one end. A collapsible crowding tub is connected to the alley way and includes an opening communicating with the opening of the alley way. The collapsible crowding tub includes a plurality of curved panels which are connected together in a substantially semi-circular pattern surrounding a fifth wheel hitch. An end curved panel is connected to the alley way adjacent the opening of the alley way. An extension panel has one end connected to the alley way on the opposite side of the opening of the alley way and has a second end connected to the fifth wheel gooseneck. A gate has one end pivotably attached to the fifth wheel gooseneck and is sized to swing in an arc within the semi-circular pattern of the curved panels. A latch is provided for latching the gate to a selected curved panel.
Abstract: An improved method is provided for treatment of feed water for livestock and other animals to reduce bacterial contamination while at the same time improving live performance. A gaseous mixture comprising ozone and oxygen gas is produced from ambient air and directly contacted with a supply of water to produce a solution of gaseous mixture. This contact step is continued until the content of ozone in the water supply is within a range of from about 5 parts per million to about 20 parts per million, and the content of oxygen is between about 80% and 97% of saturation. Thereafter, the resultant water product is directed for use as feed water to livestock or other animals to be treated.
Abstract: A method of reducing the level of bacteria and viruses in a volume of water during aquaculture comprises:—(a) providing the volume of water to be stocked with farmed aquatic organisms or eggs thereof; (b) prior to the stocking, introducing into the water an aqueous solution of glutaraldehyde in an amount such as to provide in the water from 0.1 to 2 ppm of glutaraldehyde; (c) stocking the water with the farmed aquatic organisms or eggs thereof at a time when the concentration of glutaraldehyde is 0.1 to 2 ppm. (d) allowing the farmed aquatic organisms or eggs thereof to grow; and (e) optionally during a period of the growth, introducing into the water at least one further portion of an aqueous solution of glutaraldehyde in an amount such as to maintain the concentration of the glutaraldehyde at 0.1 to 2 ppm.

Abstract: A fishing lure having a durable plastic outer shell with lead weights within and that has two hollow tubular chambers. The main chamber is translucent and holds a chemiluminescent chemical stick that illuminates the chamber. The second, bottom chamber in the tail holds fish attractant oil and a sponge-like material that retains the oil. A hole at the top of the chamber allows water to enter into the chamber. The water mixes with the oil and is then dispensed from a second hole at the bottom of the chamber. The tail portion further includes tail fins that are curved causing the lure to spin when retrieved and can be connected with the top cap of the lure to form a separate scent releasing lure without the chemiluminescent chamber being used.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preventing pests from gaining entrance to a building structure. The method incorporates use of an article comprising a length of fibrous fabric and a plurality of adhesive strips. The fabric is designed for adhesive attachment to a building structure adjacent points of entry and the adhesive strips are designed for adhesively attaching the fabric in snug adjacency to the outfitted building structure. The fabric is impregnated with at least one pesticide composition and has outwardly extending fibers for entangling the legs of pests attempting to gain entrance to the building structure by maneuvering across the fabric to points of entry. These outwardly extending fibers thus directly deposit pesticide composition on the pests for preventing them from gaining entrance to the building structure. Importantly, the fabric is brilliantly colored or has highly light reflective coloration for attracting the pests to the pesticide-impregnated fabric for contact treatment.
Abstract: A deterrent strip for repelling birds and other pests includes two electrical wire support members separated by spaces extending across the strip to allow bending. Connectors are attached to the wire support members to resist lengthwise stretching of the strip, the connectors extending across the spaces and offset from the center of the strip.
Abstract: A chum dispensing assembly comprising a container having a substantially elongated, cylindrical configuration defining a hollow interior for the containment of chum. The container comprises a separable portion movably mounted on or connected to a remainder of the container by a connecting assembly disposed and structured to facilitate substantially linear, axial displacement of the separable portion outwardly from the remainder of the container to form a dispensing opening through which chum passes from the hollow interior. Displacement of the separable portion into the open position is normally accomplished by a predetermined “pulling” force exerted on an upper end of the container when submerged at a location where the chum is intended to be dispensed.

Abstract: A trap is disclosed in which first and second co-acting jaws are provided for pivotally engaging a member of a captured animal, wherein the first and second jaws are configured for pivotal displacement between an opened position and a closed position. Levers are loaded with a biasing force for loading the first and second jaws into the closed position. A retaining arrangement is provided for retaining the first jaw in the opened position, wherein the retaining arrangement releases the loaded first and second jaws upon actuation. A leveling structure is used for providing first and second contact surfaces for the at least one lever so as to provide level contact surfaces for the respective first and second jaws.
