  • Patent number: 6029409
Abstract: Embodiments of a door and doorway shield system are shown and described, each including at least one hook for hanging or gripping onto a portion of the door or the doorway. The shield preferably hangs on the door by a J-shaped hook portion that extends substantially along the entire top edge of the shield. The shield includes a protective portion which extends across the space between a door and a doorway and across the trim molding of the doorway to substantially cover, or hook on, the front trim molding of the doorway. In embodiments which hook on the trim molding, the trim hook holds the shield in place to provide resistance to impacts pushing the shield off of the door. A J-shaped hook portion may also be provided on the bottom of the shield, to allow for connection to the bottom of the door or for turning the shield up-side-down for use both left-hinged and right-hinged doors.

  • Patent number: 6023904
Abstract: An apparatus for straightening portions of a plurality of purlins of a roof structure which have been moved from an original position to a deformed position and a method of using the same is disclosed. A carriage is provided which is mounted for movement along the length of the purlins in a downstream direction. The carriage has a plurality of guides which are positioned adjacent the plurality of purlins in the deformed position. A purlin straightening device attached to the carriage moves the carriage in a direction lateral to the length of the purlins so that the guides move the portions of the plurality of purlins from the deformed position to the original position.

  • Patent number: 5970668
Abstract: A chimney reinforcement device to be secured to a damaged or sound chimney comprising two front corner brackets and two rear corner brackets, which are bolted together to reinforce the upper portion of the chimney. Two wall mounting members are connected between the front corner brackets and the building so as to allow the front corner brackets to be firmly anchored to the building structural materials adjacent the chimney just below the roof line. The chimney reinforcement device further comprises two inclined arm member connected between the rear corner brackets and the roof such that the corner brackets are firmly anchored to the roof structure adjacent to the chimney. When the chimney reinforcement device is properly secured to a chimney, the chimney reinforcement device adds strength to the existing framework of the chimney and thereby prevents severe cracking or falling thereof during an earthquake.

  • Patent number: 5888114
Abstract: The invention is concerned with the formation of modular units from individual plate-like elements and other elements with special interlocking joints at their ends that allow them to form cubes that can be grouped together to form storage "cubbies" and modular structural systems and toy construction sets and the like, wherein, in one embodiment, the plates are formed with one end having studs on a 45 degree angled surface, and the other end having receptacles or openings such as sockets on a 45 degree angled surface for interlocking with a second mating plate like the first, but in which the studs and sockets are interchanged, allowing a cube to be formed by two of each type of plate, with the use of studs and sockets on the surfaces allowing two or more such cubes to stick together; and wherein, in another embodiment, the cube is made from four identical plates, as by an extrusion process, where one end of a plate contains double male features, such as barb arrows, and the other end contains double correspo

  • Patent number: 5249405
Abstract: A drywall support device for the temporary support of drywall, such as for ceiling installation, during installation. This device is a small and compact device having a piercing end, a supporting tongue, and a striking end. The piercing end and the striking end are opposite one another and essentially in the same plane which is transverse to the plane in which the supporting tongue lies. The drywall support device has the piercing end merely driven substantially perpendicular into a ceiling joist by striking the striking end with a hammer. The tongue supports one end of the drywall sheet while the installer secures the opposite end working towards the support devices. Once the entire sheet is secured, the drywall support devices are removed and reused in the installation of the next sheet. The drywall support device is also useful for installing drywall sheets on walls with ceilings above standard height, such as in old homes where ceiling may be over eight feet or in homes with cathedral ceilings.
