  • Patent number: 9296622
Abstract: Disclosed herein are indium-tin-oxide nanoparticles and a method for continuously producing precipitated indium-tin nanoparticles having a particle size range of substantially from about 10 nm to about 200 nm and a substantially consistent ratio of indium to tin in the resultant nanoparticles across the duration of the continuous process, based on the ratio of indium to tin in a seeding solution. The method comprises preparing intermediate indium and tin compounds of the general formula [M(OH)xCy], where M represents the indium or tin ionic component of indium or tin salts, C represents the cationic component of indium or tin salt(s), x is a number greater than 0 and y=[M*valance?x]/C* valance in the seeding solution. The intermediate compounds are continuously precipitated with a base solution in a reaction vessel initially having a solvent contained therein. • Patent number: 9291758
Abstract: Nanorods assemblies that have lengths in excess of 50 microns to meters are formed from contacting rice-shaped colloidal superparticles that are aligned along the long axis of the colloidal superparticles. The rice-shaped colloidal superparticles are formed from a multiplicity of nanorods with a high degree of association that is end to end to form colloidal superparticles that are in excess of three microns in length and have a length to diameter ratio of about three or more. Methods of preparing the rice-shaped colloidal superparticles employ mixing with an additional ligand to the nanorods to bias the self assembly of the nanorods by solvophobic interactions. Methods of preparing the nanorods assemblies include the infusion of the rice-shaped colloidal superparticles into microchannels patterned on a substrate, wherein the rice-shaped colloidal superparticles' long axes align in the microchannels.

  • Patent number: 9290660
Abstract: Solvents for macromolecules generally believed to be insoluble in their pristine form are identified by generation of a “solvent resonance” in the relationship between solvent quality (deduced by Rayleigh scattering) and an intrinsic property of solvents. A local extreme of the solvent resonance identifies the ideal intrinsic property of an ideal solvent which may then be used to select a particular solvent or solvent combination. A solvent for graphene is used in the production of transparent conductive electrodes.

  • Patent number: 9260798
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of synthetic crystal, and more particularly, this invention relates to doped low-temperature phase barium metaborate single crystal, growth method and frequency-converter. Molten salt method was adopted. The single crystal completely overcome the shortcomings of BBO with strong deliquescence, almost no deliquescence; its frequency doubling effect and optical damage threshold has improved greatly compared with the BBO; its hardness increased significantly, the single crystal with Shore hardness of 101.3 and Mohs hardness of 6, however, BBO with Shore hardness of 71.2 and Mohs hardness of 4. From the UV-Vis region transmittance curves tests, the cut-off wavelength of the single crystal is 190 nm, wavelength of absorption onset is 205 nm. BBSAG is widely applied in the fields of laser and nonlinear optics, and in terms of frequency-converter of ultraviolet and deep-ultraviolet due to its excellent properties better than BBO.

  • Patent number: 9260573
Abstract: Polymer nanocomposites exhibit a reversible change in stiffness and strength in response to a stimulus. The polymer nanocomposites include a matrix polymer with a comparably low modulus and strength and nanoparticles that have a comparably high modulus and strength. The particle-particle interactions are switched by the stimulus, to change the overall material's mechanical properties. In a preferred embodiment, a chemical regulator is used to facilitate changes of the mechanical properties. Methods for inducing modulus changes in polymer nanocomposites are also disclosed.
