Abstract: When multiple contacts are detected for a phone number of an incoming call, a notification that multiple contacts matched the phone number is displayed. When the display area for displaying the notification is adequate to display a full list of the contacts that correspond to the phone number of the incoming call, the full list is displayed. When the display area is inadequate to display the full list, a scrollable list of the multiple contacts is displayed. Alternatively, when the display area is inadequate, a multiple contacts message is displayed that notifies a user that multiple stored contacts matched the phone number of the incoming phone call.

Abstract: A wireline termination arrangement bridges a telecommunication wireline pair of a telecommunication system equipment backplane with a termination resistor. The backplane adjoins a plurality of card slots. A first end of the termination resistor installed in the backplane is connected to one wire of the wireline pair, and a second end is connected to a plurality of first terminals on the backplane. The first terminals are engageable by associated first ends of jumper conductors installed on respective ones of a plurality of line cards, when the line cards are installed in the card slots. A plurality of second terminals are arranged adjacent to the first terminals, are connected to the other wire of the wireline pair, and are engageable by second ends of the jumper conductors, when the line cards are installed in the card slots, thereby bridging the wireline pair with the termination resistor.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for providing prepaid telecommunication services. More particularly, prepaid telephone calls can be made by users without entering any access code, if such calls are made from telephone numbers previously registered in the telecommunication system in connection with valid access codes. Prepaid telephone calls can also be made from non-registered telephone numbers after providing the telecommunication system with a valid access code.

Abstract: A calling account recharge system, method, and device are provided. The device has an associated stored-value calling account, and typically includes a selector, a communications program configured to communicate with a recharge service via a communication network, and a recharge option selectable by a user upon actuation of the selector. The recharge option is configured to cause the communications program to initiate a recharge transaction with the recharge service via the communication network, in order to add calling units to the stored-value calling account. The device may be configured to access the communication network via a toll-free gateway.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication method integrating network and extension forwarding to automatically broadcast caller messages to specific computer IP addresses, which will transmit in real-time the caller messages to a computer specified by each extension user, and display all kinds of information in a multimedia form, via network. The present invention comprises a main server, a caller ID module, a DTMF (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) module, a telephone extension data base, a caller information database, a network communication interface, and a client-side program. When a user dials into an enterprise switch, the extension number that the caller intends to forward, and the caller's phone number will be retrieved, and be automatically transmitted to a computer specified by the extension user, thereby facilitating the retrieval of caller information for the extension user.

Abstract: A system and method for providing caller ID in a multi-region cable network. Caller identifying (CID) information of an incoming VoIP call is provided to a digital telephone subscriber through a video termination device (VTD) using a path that is different from the path by which the VoIP call packets are delivered to the digital telephone subscriber. The telephone number of a digital telephone subscriber is associated with the IP address and/or MAC address of the subscriber's VTD. The called number of the incoming VoIP call is used to select the VTD to which the CID information is delivered. A message is then sent through an out-of-band to the digital telephone subscriber's VTD comprising the CID information for display on video display equipment. Alternatively, the VTD is DOCSIS-compliant and a message is addressed to the VTD using the IP address of the VTD DOCSIS modem.

Abstract: A system and method for performing DSL assessments of a telephone line along a prescribed test path is disclosed. The disclosed system includes a loop diagnostic test unit adapted for testing said telephone line using narrow-band and mid-band frequency test signals; a test system controller and a test system server to provide the DSL assessments to a user via an appropriate interface. In addition, the disclosed methods include the basic steps of: accessing the telephone line along the test path that includes selected hardware such as a voice switch test bus, central office splitter, service provider instruments and terminations; ascertaining various line characteristics along the test path using mid-band and narrow-band frequency signals; analyzing the line characteristics to identify line conditions that affect DSL service; and determining the impact of the line conditions on DSL service.

Abstract: A system is provided for reporting call data related to a telecommunications service. The system includes a network element, such as a service control point, that generates billing records. The network element populates a base module with standard data and also populates a local use module, appended to the base module, with call data required for reports associated with the telecommunication service. The system also includes a report generating system that receives the base record and appended local use module and generates reports based upon the call data stored in the base module and the appended local use module.

Abstract: A system for billing Internet protocol (IP) telephony, or other telecommunication calls transmitted over data packet networks, is provided. Calls may be routed over networks of different types, e.g., H.323 networks or IP voice networks. Different types of network devices, e.g., call managers, switches, or gateways, may transmit legs within a call. Each device type typically generates call records that have data fields unique to that device. In order to generate a single billing record for each call, call records are standardized and then matched with call records from other devices. Key fields within call records that may be matched include: call connect timestamps, signal start timestamps, calling party identifiers, called party identifiers, or network device identifiers. Timestamps within call records may be synchronized from a common time server.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in a wireless communication device for re-establishing communications with a wireless communication network are described. In one illustrative technique, a data connection is maintained with the wireless network for communicating data with use of data connection parameters (e.g. an encryption parameter). In response to a communication failure, the wireless device attempts to establish a new data connection with the wireless network. To do this, the wireless device sends a message to the wireless network which causes the data connection parameters to be reset. Preferably, the message is a disconnect frame. After the message is sent, the wireless device sends an attach request to the wireless network. Thereafter, the wireless device communicates data over the new data connection with use of new data connection parameters.

Abstract: A system and method of distributing incentives for wireless hotspots is provided. The method includes providing an access point to a wireless hotspot for wireless devices to wirelessly connect to a larger network in a publicly accessible location, evaluating use statistics of the access point of the wireless hotspot by portable devices, and providing an inducement to a user of the wireless hotspot based on the evaluated use statistics. The system includes a first provider for providing an access point to a wireless hotspot for wireless devices to wirelessly connect to a larger network in a publicly accessible location, an evaluator for evaluating use statistics of the access point of the wireless hotspot by portables devices, and a second provider for providing an inducement to a user of the wireless hotspot based on the evaluated use statistics.

Abstract: A method for realizing charging includes setting up mapping relation between service attribute and charging rule acquiring service attribute of the to-be-charged service when it is demanded to charge the to-be-charged service acquiring charging rule of the to-be-charged service according to service attribute of the to-be-charged service, and charging the to-be-charged service according to the acquired charging rule. Also disclosed is a charging system having an acquiring charging rule module and charging processing module. When it is demanded to develop new services or modify charging rules of original services, it can be fulfilled by modifying the service information provided for charging processing module accordingly, thus charging requirements of various services can be satisfied. Charging processing module of charging system is independent of services, so that cost of charging system is reduced, and stability, reliability and versatility of charging system are improved.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the dissemination of information from a controlled environment facility employ facility information management functionality managing resident information and facility information, and call manager functionality selectively providing at least a portion of the resident information and/or the facility information to an outside party in an automated manner. The invention may employ outgoing IVR functionality to provide select portions of the resident information in response to the call manager recognizing that a call is a first call by a resident, or a first call to a particular telephone number by a resident. The invention may manage information related to providers of services or goods for residents of a facility, provide an outside party this information, and notify a selected provider of selection of that provider by the outside party to provide goods or services for a resident.

Abstract: Centralized billing is provided by processing requests for pre-paid and post-paid services at a service control point that is configured to prepare one or more associated event records. Event records associated with provided services can be stored at the service control point or in a remote database, or the service control point can direct the event records to a central billing system that is configured to bill subscribers directly or to transmit event records to one or more payment systems via a financial gateway. Service control point service logic is configured to permit negative account balances for post-paid subscribers, while account balances remain positive for pre-paid subscribers. Credit limits can be associated with post-paid subscribers, and service authorization can be based on such credit limits.

Abstract: A method of settling accounts of buyers and sellers of telecommunication services by an online exchange system includes storing data representing a financial account of at least one seller and at least one buyer, wherein the financial account includes at least one of accounts receivable and cash receipts. A service node receives an offer to sell the services from the at least one seller and requests to buy the services from the at least one buyer. The service node then matches the offers and requests in accordance with one or more parameters specified in the offers and requests. A route table is generated based on the routes specified in the matched offers and requests and a switch node is configured based on the route table. Fees are computed based on the usage of the matched routes and the financial accounts of the at least one seller and at least one buyer based on the computed fees.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the disclosed subject matter provide methods and systems to receive an incoming call message via a data interface upon activation of a trigger established with a voice communication network and activated when the voice communication network receives an incoming call to a destination identified by a pre-determined subscriber account; generate a call notification in response to the incoming call message; obtain a list of set-top boxes corresponding to the pre-determined subscriber account; and route the call notification to the set-top boxes on the list.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting a fault in a joint connecting sections of an electrical transmission line together are disclosed. Previously known methods for detecting joint faults require a visual inspection of the joint or testing the transmission line using sophisticated, expensive equipment. This manual testing is expensive and inefficient. In the proposed method, a fault in a joint (301) connecting sections of an electrical transmission line (107) together is detected by measuring the resistance to current flowing through the joint (301) in one and the other directions along said electrical transmission line (107) and detecting a fault in the joint (301) if the measured resistance differs substantially in said one and the other directions. The method has particular utility in relation to low power transmission lines such as telephone lines.

Abstract: A device for testing a data carrying service operating over a telecommunications line includes a plurality of test circuits. Each test circuit is arranged to determine and test one or more characteristics of a data carrying service and a termination of the telecommunications line is emulated. The operation of each of the plurality of test circuits is controlled, and the telecommunications lines is connected to one or more of the plurality of test circuits. The data carrying service remains connected via a connection during all of the testing operations provided by one or more of the test circuits which enables the device to automatically determine the identity of the data carrying service. The test circuits may be arranged to enable emulation of a termination to be interconnected so as to enable the device to provide a passive link in the data carrying service and/or provide throughput testing of the telecommunications line.
