  • Patent number: 8001191
Abstract: When electronic mail with firmware attached is received at a data communication apparatus, determination is made whether it corresponds to firmware data of a write process allowable state. In the case of write process allowable data, the message is downloaded from a mail server to a printer controller. Then, derived firmware is transmitted to an image formation apparatus. A firmware rewrite permission is obtained. When the firmware attached to the message does not attain a write process allowable state, waiting is conducted for reception of write process allowable firmware with the data left in the mail server. As a result, a data communication apparatus is provided that can rewrite firmware appropriately independent of a transmitted and received order of divided firmware.

  • Patent number: 7991865
Abstract: In an embodiment, methods and systems have been provided for detecting changes in a network using improved Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) polling that reduces network traffic. Examples of changes in the network include, but are not limited to, configuration and behavioral changes in a network device, and response of network device to a network change. A Network Management Station (NMS) periodically polls Management Information Base (MIB) groups instead of periodically polling individual MIB object instances. The NMS receives the Aggregate Change Identifiers (ACIs) of MIB groups in response to polling, from a SNMP agent. The changes in the received ACIs represent the changes in the MIB groups. A change in an MIB group represents changes in the MIB object instances of the MIB group. The ACIs can be checksum, timestamp, and a combination of number of MIB object instances in a group and checksum of the MIB group.

  • Patent number: 7953785
Abstract: Content synchronization in a file sharing environment is described. A node in a circle share maintains a version vector that represents that node's knowledge of file synchronization events. Version vector data may be transmitted between nodes of the circle share via a presence service in the form of short notification messages. The version vector data is compared to identify one or more nodes to be synchronized. A resource-aware overlay representing the circle share is computed, and is used to initiate communication to determine which of the available nodes with which to synchronize will provide the most synchronization value to other nodes in the circle share.

  • Patent number: 7925693
Abstract: An architecture that can provide for improved network content filtering is described herein. In particular, access to remote resources can be controlled by a remote mechanism. In accordance therewith, a gateway can seamlessly and/or transparently redirect packets from a client that are meant for an intended destination to an access control component. The access control component can determine whether the client has access to the resources requested. In addition, the gateway can provide IPSec features on behalf to the client.

  • Patent number: 7801969
Abstract: The present invention provides a real-time live picture information compression-transmission apparatus and method using a connection-less type protocol for a computer network. The compression-transmission apparatus is constituted to divide frame data output from a real-time encoder compressing live picture information into packets, and to transmit the live picture information in a real time manner according to the connection-less type protocol while suppressing burst transmission by conducting transmission control. The present invention also provides a compressed video data decoding apparatus capable of reducing compressed video decoding processing load without deteriorating picture quality and decreasing the number of played back picture planes when playing back a picture.
