Abstract: Systems and methods for audio editing are provided. In one implementation, a computer-implemented method is provided. The method includes receiving digital audio data and displaying a representation of the received digital audio data as an audio waveform. The display also includes a representation of one or more controls for applying one or more effects to the digital audio data. A user input is received manipulating a first control relative to the audio waveform. The displayed representation of the audio waveform is modified according to the relative position of the first control and a corresponding effect is applied to the digital audio data. The modified digital audio data is then made available for further processing.

Abstract: System and method for generating information regarding the functionality of a system. Input specifying at least a portion of functionality of a system may be received, e.g., from a user via a graphical user interface (GUI), and may specify one or more components of the system at a component level. The input may specify one or more components of the system, e.g., software component(s), hardware device(s), function(s) of the system, etc. Information, e.g., help information and/or documentation, describing one or more aspects of the functionality of the system may be automatically generated based on the input. The descriptions of the aspects may include information regarding the synergistic/combinatorial interactions of the components at a system level, e.g., via calculation or derivation from data retrieved from various sources regarding the components of the system. The information may be automatically stored and/or automatically displayed in the GUI substantially in real-time.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for providing a moving picture map, the system including: a moving picture upload part for uploading moving pictures for one or more objects; and a map provision part for forming a moving picture map showing relations to other moving pictures according to subject matters, based on indexes corresponding to the moving pictures, and providing the moving picture map to a user interface for a moving picture search. Therefore, a user can be allowed to easily retrieve a number of moving pictures, and a manual and a review about a predetermined product can be made in a moving picture format for provision of the moving picture containing the manual and the review to consumers.

Abstract: Embodiments related to the manipulation of objects on a multi-touch graphical user interface are disclosed. For example, in one disclosed embodiment, a method of operating a graphical user interface of a computing device comprises presenting a group of objects on the graphical user interface in a group representation, where the group of objects includes two or more objects. The method further comprises receiving a multi-touch gesture at the graphical user interface in which two or more temporally overlapping touches are moved relative to each other on the graphical user interface. The method further comprises changing an organization of the group of objects presented on the graphical user interface in response to a changing of a distance between the two or more temporally overlapping touches as they are moved relative to each other on the graphical user interface.

Abstract: A technique for managing the display of content on a display of an electronic device may be based on a distance of the user to the display. The distance may be estimated by analyzing video data to detect a face of the user and establish a distance parameter based on a relationship between facial features. Based on this information, the displayed content may be adjusted to facilitate easy viewing of the displayed content, such as by changing the size of the displayed content, the layout of the displayed content, or the number of visual elements that make up the displayed content.

Abstract: First and second objects are displayed on a pressure-sensitive touch-screen display device. Contact with the display device by an input mechanism is detected in a region corresponding to empty space. The movement of the input mechanism is tracked while it remains in contact with the display device. Movement of the input mechanism is detected as it moves to a point along the boundary of the second displayed object. In response, the pressure applied to the display device by the input mechanism is sensed. It is determined that the sensed pressure exceeds a threshold pressure value. Movement of the input mechanism is then detected as it moves to a new position on the display device. As a consequence of detecting the movement of the input mechanism to the new position and determining that the sensed pressure exceeds the threshold pressure value, a fold operation is applied to the second displayed object.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for previewing new events in a computing device having a plurality of applications for managing respective events are described. Individual applications are each represented by an application icon on a screen of a graphical user interface for the device. When a new event occurs, particularly when the new event relates to a specific one of a plurality of similar applications, the invention provides a convenient way to denote which application relates to the event. In response to a new event of a one of the applications, the application's icon is visually modified to notify of the new event. A visual modification may be determined in response to the new event, for example, to preview a content of the event. The visual modification may include a count of all new events that remain to be disposed. On a selection of the visually modified icon, additional previewing may be provided.

Abstract: Complex collaboration or decision support applications perform complex design or planning tasks, often with the input of large groups of people over long periods of time. The combination of time and complexity can often obscure past actions, making it difficult to remember the factors that influenced earlier stages in the planning task. This is especially true if the task involves many people and different people work at different times. The application state navigation system provides an application-independent mechanism that allows operators to walk back through the history of the application in order to better understand (or remember) the application actions that were taken in the past and the triggers for those actions.

Abstract: Electronic device with the user interface in which selectable items are shown on the display and can be selected by a user via an input component. A processor unit in the device organizes the selectable items in groups with a predetermined static sequence. The processor unit also maintains dynamic subgroups of preferred items. When the items in a group are being displayed in an available display area, the processor unit shows the subgroup of preferred items before the group of standard items. The first item in the group of standard items is highlighted and the user can either scroll towards the items in the subgroup of preferred items or to the standard items in the group.

Abstract: An application capture is distributed by an application capture trigger associated with an online communication session between a first user and a second user and generating an application capture associated with rendered portions of the first user's display in response to activation of the application capture trigger. The application capture is sent to the second user within the online communication session.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus displays face images in each column of a plurality of face image display areas arranged in a matrix based on time stamp information, and displays thumbnail images in time-series in a thumbnail display area arranged at one side of a lower side or an upper side in the two dimensional display area. The apparatus displays one of the thumbnail images with a normal size and displays the others such that the lateral direction sizes are reduced in comparison with that of the thumbnail displayed in the normal size. And, the apparatus performs display control of the plurality of face images so as to make face images having times in a section corresponding to a selected thumbnail image as time stamp information distinguishable from the others, when the thumbnail image in the thumbnail display area is selected.

An array of function icons including multiple function icons representing respective types of media that can be played and an array of content icons including multiple content icons representing items of contents that can be played are displayed practically at the center of an on-screen menu such that the arrays intersect. A moving image icon, which is a function icon displayed in an area of intersection in which the array of function icons and the array of content icons intersect, is highlighted by a color different from that of the other function icons and by an enlarged view. In the array of content icons, the hierarchy of the contents is visually represented.

Abstract: The present invention provides a device and a method for displaying appropriately on the display area for each processing unit such as an application according to the applied equipment. The CPU 12 processes display area acquisition requests from a plurality of processing units R1-Rn according to a display management program. The display management program decides whether use of the display area is allowed to each processing unit, considering the relationship of the plurality of display areas requested from each processing unit R1-Rn. Each processing unit R1-Rn executes display processing for the display area for which use is allowed. Another embodiment of the invention comprises a system and method for enabling a graphical program to programmatically generate and respond to a user-defined event. The user may desire to define custom, i.e., user-defined, events for use in a graphical program.

Abstract: The rendering of portal pages on can be sped up by allowing individual portlets to be displayed while other portlets of the page are still waiting to finish rendering. Temporary messages can be displayed for the portlets that are still rendering. This temporary content can be replaced by the finished portal rendering for the slow rendering portlets. Additionally, a timeout feature for the portlets can be used. The timeout feature allows the rendering of the portlet to be stopped after a certain period of time.

Abstract: A method for a user to easily securely configure a device is provided. The method includes displaying a user interface including a plurality of symbols available for user selection, accepting user inputs including an indication of any symbols selected by the user, converting the symbols selected by the user into numeric data, and assigning the numeric data to configuration parameters for the device.

Abstract: Retrieving information from a display server. Information about all visible windows displayed on a display by the display server is retrieved. Descriptive information about visible windows displayed on the display, and windows on a shelf is retrieved from the display server or window broker. Notifications of changes to windows are received. Based on information retrieved from the display server or window broker and received notifications, a user interface displays windows displayed on the display and windows on the shelf. A user request is received at the user interface for a change to what is displayed by the display server. The user request is sent, directly or indirectly to the window broker. The window broker approves, denies or makes arbitrary changes to windows to accommodate the user request and sends a window broker request to the display server. The window broker notifies window managers of changes that have been made.

Abstract: A user interface within a presentation program manages hierarchical relationships. A master view includes a thumbnail view that shows the hierarchical relationship between slide masters and layouts used within the presentation. In one example, the thumbnail view is a series of thumbnail tree-controls where each slide master is the top node of the tree control and the layouts are the children of the slide master. A user may copy, move, delete, and edit slide masters, layouts, and slides using the user interface. A contextual representation of slide master and layout commands may be shown in the same overall user interface space.

Abstract: An automated learning system for improving graphical user interfaces. Information about a user transaction which caused an error is obtained from an input to an element in a graphical user interface. Associations are created between the error and one or more elements in the graphical user interface which generated the error to form association rules. The association rules are applied to a set of control rules to create user interface preference rules. A corrective action may then be performed on the one or more elements in the graphical user interface according to the user interface preference rules.
