  • Patent number: 6888825
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sharing storage in a cross-connect. According to one embodiment of the invention, a cross-connect includes a number of sets of data input lines and a number of matrices. Each of the sets of data input lines is to be coupled to a different line card. Each of the matrices is coupled to every one of the sets of data input lines. In addition, each of the matrices has a set of data output lines, where the set of data input lines of each of the matrices is to be coupled to a different one of the line cards.

  • Patent number: 6876650
Abstract: A method of adding a new connection (c, d) to a time:space:time switch fabric. The fabric has a set I of k input elements, a set M of m switch elements, and a set O of l output elements. Each input element contributes one input to each switch element, and each output element receives one output from each switch element. A state Sm characterizes the switch elements as a set of ordered pairs (i, j), where (i, j) ? Sm if and only if the jth output element is coupled to the ith input element through one of the switch elements. The range of Sm is the set of outputs of Sm such that if j ? range(Sm) then (i, j) ? Sm for some i ? I. The domain of Sm is the set of inputs of Sm such that if i ? domain(Sm) then (i, j) ? Sm for some j ? O.

  • Patent number: 6834058
Abstract: A novel and useful mechanism of synchronizing and aligning a plurality of data streams. The invention comprises a plurality of sync machines and an alignment circuit which in combination function to synchronize and align multiple variable length cell streams. Each sync machine is operative to control the output clocking of a corresponding FIFO queue. The data stream output of each FIFO queue is monitored by a sync machine and all the sync machines are coupled to the alignment circuit. In operation, the sync machines synchronize to the cells by searching for the error checks sequence (ECS) at the end of each cell. Upon synchronization being achieved for all the data streams, the alignment circuit causes each sync machine to freeze its respective FIFO until the ECS arrives on the data stream most delayed in time. Once the ECS is received on the slowest data stream, the alignment circuit releases the hold and consequently the FIFOs are released by the sync machines.

  • Patent number: 6807192
Abstract: A CDMA telecommunication system utilizes a plurality of protocol layers including a physical layer and a medium access control (MAC) layer such that the MAC layer provides data to the physical layer via plurality of transport channels (TrCHs). Each TrCH is associated with a set of logical channels. The physical layer receives blocks of data for transport such that the transport blocks (TBs) includes a MAC header and logical channel data for a selected logical channel associated with a given TrCH. Each TB has one of a selected limited finite number of TB bit sizes. The logical channel data for each TB has a bit size evenly divisible by a selected integer N greater than three (3). The MAC header for each TB has a bit size such that the MAC header bit size plus the logical channel data bit size equals one of the TB bit sizes.

  • Patent number: 6785246
Abstract: A system and method for setting up a multi-party conference call in a packet-switched radio telecommunications network in which a Gatekeeper (GK) has established an on-going two-party call between a first party and a second party. The first party sends an enhanced Facility message to the GK that indicates a multi-party conference call is desired, and includes a globally unique conference identity and a list of telephone numbers for third parties to be joined. A Multipoint Controller (MC) provides an Internet Protocol (IP) address of a Multipoint Processor (MP) to each of the parties, and provides the IP addresses of the parties to the MP. The MC then negotiates media sessions with each of the parties, and sends the negotiation results to the MP. Each of the parties then sends its media payload to the MP where the payloads are mixed and forwarded to the other parties.
