  • Patent number: 6941350
Abstract: A method in a node within network computing system for selecting a master network manager, wherein the first node is associated with a first priority. Requests are sent to the network computing system to discover other nodes within the network computing system. A second priority from the request is identified in response to receiving a response to one of the requests from another node within the network computing system. The first node shifts to a standby mode if it discovers a master subnet manager or the second priority is higher than the first priority. The first node shifts to a master mode if a response containing a priority higher than the first priority is absent in responses received by the first node and the first node has completed checking all other nodes in the network computing system.

  • Patent number: 6915327
Abstract: The invention relates to a Host Computer system, which receives information from the Internet, rasterizes it, compresses it and transmits it to a portable device which decompresses the image to display it on a screen. The Host Computer may also transmit to another computer outfitted with a modem. The Host Computer which contains an operating system, has a variety of peripheral device driver software installed to enable interacting with these peripheral devices via a parallel port, serial port, USB port, or other types of ports. Hence, when a peripheral device related command is executed, data is sent from the peripheral device driver software to the selected port on the Host Computer and is intercepted by another software unit, which may compress this data and subsequently diverts it to the portable device via modem.

  • Patent number: 6772202
Abstract: A queuing system, method and computer program product is provided for transferring electronic information over a data network, such as the Internet. A host or system administrator monitors host resources by preventing one or more host resource limits from being exceeded. Where a resource limit is reached, a queuing protocol is initiated with a client requesting data. The queuing protocol permits the client to enter a queue and wait until host resources may be allocated to service the data request. The queue is maintained by the host, which may provide periodic updates to the client regarding queue length, position and estimated wait time. Clients may advance through the queue in accordance with a first-in-first-out algorithm, or some alternative priority scheme. When a client reaches the head of the queue, host resources are checked. If sufficient resources are available to service the client request, they are allocated to the client at the head of the queue.
