Abstract: Various examples of the present disclosure provide methods for unifying various types of end-point identifiers, such as IPv4 (e.g., Internet protocol version 4 represented by a VRF and an IPv4 address), IPv6 (e.g., Internet protocol version 6 represented by a VRF and an IPv6 address) and L2 (e.g., Layer-2 represented by a bridge domain (BD) and a media access control (MAC) address), by mapping end-point identifiers to a uniform space (e.g., a synthetic IPv4 address and a synthetic VRF) and allowing different forms of lookups to be uniformly handled. In some examples, a lookup database residing on a switch device can be sharded into a plurality of lookup table subsets, each of which resides on a different one of multiple switch chipsets (e.g., Tridents) in the switch device.

  • Patent number: 9648593
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for transmitting data to a remote node via each of two or more transmitted carrier signals, wherein a distinct outbound packet data traffic channel is mapped to each transmitted carrier signal. In an exemplary method, aggregated control channel data is formed by combining control channel data corresponding to each of two or more received carrier signals, simultaneously transmitting traffic channel data to the remote node on each of the two or more outbound packet data traffic channels, and transmitting the aggregated control channel data using one or more physical control channels mapped to a first one of the transmitted carrier signals. In particular, these methods and apparatus may be applied to a multi-carrier High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) system.

  • Patent number: 9634851
Abstract: The disclosure presents a system, method, and computer readable medium for computing network latencies. Network devices using flow processors create network traffic summary information in the form of flow records. A harvester may gather, process, and analyze flow records to find matching flows. Using matching flows, a harvester computes the latency, either one-way or round-trip, between two devices on the network. This information may be exported or stored on other devices on the network. The teachings of the present disclosure enable wide network coverage through the use of existing network traffic summary records. Further, the present disclosure mitigates network slowdowns associated with monitoring equipment. The present disclosure also reduces or eliminates the need for clock synchronization between devices on the network.

  • Patent number: 9634850
Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving a request for a service that involves phasor measurement unit (PMU) data; identifying a service device in a network to perform the service; and multicasting one or more results of the service to a group of subscribers identified by a multicast group address. In more particular embodiments, particular PMU data is redirected to the service device via a service insertion architecture (SIA) protocol. In addition, the service can include replicating packets and masking a subset of traffic for forwarding to a first hop router of the network. In certain example instances, metadata is used in order to apply the service to certain traffic propagating in the network.

  • Patent number: 9634960
Abstract: A packet switching system of an access capacity scalable to multiple petabits per second is disclosed. A multiplicity of switch units, each of a relatively small dimension, is organized into orthogonal sets of switch units and the switch units of each set are cyclically interconnected through a respective dual rotator. Each switch unit has a contention-free switching mechanism and is coupled to a same number of dual rotators. Each switch unit has a switch-unit controller configured to route data received from external data sources to external data sinks coupled to any other switch unit by communicating with at most one switch-unit controller of an intermediate switch unit.

  • Patent number: 9629163
Abstract: Provided is a radio communication base station device which can prevent lowering of use efficiency of a channel communication resource for performing a frequency diversity transmission when simultaneously performing a frequency scheduling transmission and the frequency diversity transmission in a multicarrier communication. In the device, a modulation unit (12) executes a modulation process on Dch data after encoded so as to generate a Dch data symbol. A modulation unit (22) executes a modulation process on the encoded Lch data so as to generate an Lch data symbol. An allocation unit (103) allocates the Dch data symbol and the Lch data symbol to respective subcarriers constituting an OFDM symbol and outputs them to a multiplexing unit (104). Here, when a plurality of Dch are used for a Dch data symbol of one mobile station, the allocation unit (103) uses Dch of continuous channel numbers.

  • Patent number: 9609565
Abstract: In typical UEs, scanning for WiFi access points (APs) can consume a significant amount of power. This scanning occurs when the UE is connected through the cellular network, but does not occur when the UE is connected to a WiFi network. As a result, offloading a UE from a cellular network to a WiFi network can allow the UE to conserve power. An issue with existing cellular networks is that the UE cannot inform a cellular network that the UE is running low on power, and therefore cannot direct the cellular network to offload the UE for power conservation reasons. A technique discussed herein allows the UE to indicate its power saving needs to the cellular network. In response, the cellular network can lower (or raise) a particular threshold, so that the UE now exceeds (or no longer exceeds) the threshold, and initiates offloading.

  • Patent number: 9602390
Abstract: A node device receives first data communicated between the node device and adjacent node devices. The node device calculates a link cost between the node device and each of the adjacent node devices, based on the first data, and corrects the link cost using a first cost depending on communication performance of the each adjacent node device. The node device stores, in association with the each adjacent node device, a first integrated link-cost value obtained by adding the corrected link cost to a second integrated link-cost value that is obtained by summing up link costs along a communication route from a destination node device serving as a final destination of second data to the each adjacent node device. The node device transmits, to the adjacent node devices, the first data including the second integrated link-cost value and a second cost depending on communication performance of the node device.
