  • Patent number: 5358637
Abstract: An appliance for sorting and deflaking fiber suspensions has a rotor with a horizontal axis rotatively mounted in a housing. In a first, inlet rotor zone the rotor is provided with entraining means for extracting by centrifugation contaminating particles of high relative density. The rotor is surrounded donwstream by a screening cylinder and is also provided with entraining means for the fiber suspension, which deflake and sort out the fiber suspension in a second rotor zone. In a third rotor zone the fibers are washed out of the rejects after water has been added and in a fourth zone the rejects are dehydrated.

  • Patent number: 5354427
Abstract: The invention relates to the manufacture of moulded objects from a fluidized fiber raw material. The fiber raw material used, is a pulp processed from waste paper by slushing the waste paper in a pulper. All or some part of the waste paper added to the pulper is subjected to a separate controlled dry grinding prior to the slushing in the pulper.

  • Patent number: 5346590
Abstract: A dryer screen in a paper machine has two superimposed connected gauze structures. It has a surface gauze layer an a bottom gauze layer, each having respective weft threads (1, 3) and warp threads (2, 4). In the dryer screen, the warp threads (2, 4) are similar in both the surface and bottom gauze layers, and they are similar in cross-section. The warp threads (4) of the bottom gauze layer pass at suitable intervals over the weft threads (1) of the surface gauze layer to bond the bottom and surface gauze layer together. The cross-sectional area and shape of the weft threads of the bottom gauze are selected so that the respective actual lengths of the warp threads (2, 4) of the surface gauze layer are equal to the corresponding threads of the bottom gauze layer.

  • Patent number: 5344491
Abstract: Plating cups 2 each hold therein respective semiconductor substrates to be plated. The temperatures of the plating solution in the plating cups are controlled at optimum levels by controlling the operations of heaters 13 and 16, based on the temperature of the plating cups as measured by thermometers 5 mounted on the plating cups 2. Metal ion concentration in the solution and the pH level and specific gravity of the solution are measured by an atomic absorption spectrometer 17, a pH gauge 18, and a gravimeter 19, respectively, for determining necessary amount of replenishing metal ions and solution from a solution level regulator 21, thereby maintaining the relevant parameters of the solution within a permissible range.

  • Patent number: 5342484
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making banded smoking article wrappers is provided. The apparatus includes a cylindrical rotating applicator that has alternating regions of mesh material and regions of solid material on its outside surface. The applicator allows repetitive patterns of additional slurry to be applied to a continuous web of paper so that the basis weight of the paper is repetitively increased. Such paper, when incorporated into a smoking article, modifies the burn rate characteristics of the article.

  • Patent number: 5342447
Abstract: A paint guide is particularly suited for use in painting large, exterior surfaces such as parking lots, warehouse floors, walkways, and curbs. The paint guide is formed of two frames, each having a rectangular planar base with at least one longitudinal side defining a planar surface perpendicular to the base. Each frame has an upright member at both of its latitudinal sides. The two frames are connected together at the upright members with releasable fastening means. Both the angle and the distance between the two bases can be adjusted so that the guide can be used both on flat surfaces and on outside corners.

  • Patent number: 5338359
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for preparation of a coating hopper. A preparation pan is positioned beneath the hopper lip during hopper preparation wherein flow within the hopper is chaotic and the curtain is not stable. The preparation pan includes edge walls spaced apart from the edge guides to stabilize the unsteady curtain within the preparation pan. The invention minimizes splashing and splattering of the coating liquids thereby minimizing contamination of the coating equipment.

  • Patent number: 5326435
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device in the crawling operation of a press felt in a paper machine. The press felt is passed as a closed felt loop through a nip defined between a center roll and a press roll in a press section of the paper machine. The felt is driven during the running operation of the paper machine by means of a nip drive between the center roll and the press roll of the press. When the paper machine is not operating, and the nip between the center roll and the press roll in the paper machine is open, the felt is moved, so as to moisten the new felt, by means of the crawling drive by rotating the drive roll. An axle of the drive roll is permanently connected to a drive rim. During the crawling operation, a drive wheel of a hydraulic device is brought into engagement with the drive rim. When the crawling drive of the felt is not in operation, the drive roll is switched to the free revolving position by shifting the drive wheel of the hydraulic device apart from the drive rim.
