    Abstract: During ATCRBS surveillance procedures, a multiplicity of target aircraft are typically detected through target replies from interrogation signals. However, the nature of the target acquisition procedures are such that positive identification of the target aircraft is not available. Rather than ordering the target tracks with increasing range and correlating the target replies with tracks based on the ordering of the target tracks, the tracks are prioritized, based on confidence in the reliability of the identification of each track, into groups. An attempt to correlate the tracks of each group with the set of target replies is performed for the groups in order of decreasing priority. A target reply is assigned to a track when a correlation between a track and a target reply is determined.

    Abstract: A lap top navigation instrument, suitable for aircraft, includes a chart compartment covered by a transparent window containing a liquid crystal display as part of the window through which a conventional map or chart in the compartment can be viewed and a computer whereby an image can be generated in the display above the chart in the compartment and, through inputs to the computer from the aircraft's instruments, the computer generated image in the display will be continuously repositioned above the surface of the chart so as pilot using the device has a continuous visual indication of the position of his aircraft over the topography depicted on the chart in the compartment. Directional components may be added to the image giving the pilot additional information in reference to the heading of the aircraft relative to the chart's display of "North" showing how the image is actually tracking over the chart in the compartment.

    Abstract: A system for warning the pilot of a tactical aircraft in a tactical maneuver such as a dive of the point at which recovery must be immediately initiated to prevent the aircraft from descending below a minimum desired altitude monitors and the altitude, descent rate and pitch angle of the aircraft, and issues a voice warning when recovery must be initiated. The system also provides warnings of dangerous flight conditions during non-tactical or common route segments of a flight such as the take-off, landing and cruise segments of a flight. Circuitry responsive to the arming of the weapons of the aircraft enables the tactical warning portion of the system and disables certain functions of the non-tactical portion of the sysem that may cause false warnings to be genrated during tactical manuevers.

    Abstract: A vehicle brake warning device for use in a vehicle with a brake pedal includes a detector for producing different electrical signals in response to the magnitude of the inertia force experienced during braking, a control circuitry receiving signals from the detector and having a varying frequency output depending upon the received signal, and a warning device activated by the varying frequency output of the control circuitry. Whenever a pressing force is exerted on the brake pedal to reduce the speed of the vehicle, the detector experiences an inertia force whose magnitude depends upon the speed of the vehicle. The detector sends out an appropriate signal dependent upon the magnitude of the inertia force to the control circuitry. The control circuitry activates the warning device to send out a warning signal which varies depending upon the magnitude of the inertia force.

    Abstract: A warning system for rotary wing aircraft that monitors the altitude above ground of the aircraft and issues a warning when there is insufficient terrain clearance. The warning criteria are optimized for rotary wing aircraft and are altered as a function of landing gear position and airspeed. Two distinct warnings are given. One indicates insufficient terrain clearance and the other warns the pilot if he attempts to land with the landing gear up. Logic circuitry is provided to modify the criteria necessary to generate a warning, and to inhibit certain warnings, as required by the mode of operation of the aircraft.

    Abstract: A keyboard having an encoder in the form of a microcomputer includes an automatic reset circuit and a key matrix circuit. The microcomputer constantly feeds a key scanning signal to the key matrix and to the automatic reset circuit. If a program used in the microcomputer gets out of control as by external noise, the key scanning signal is ceased. The automatic control circuit detects such stoppage of the key scanning signal that extends over a given period of time, and the circuit then supplies a reset signal to the microcomputer to automatically restart it from the beginning of the program.
