  • Patent number: 8693297
Abstract: Noise generation in transferring data is suppressed or prevented by transferring data at a data transfer rate according to the amount of data to be transferred to a memory. In a reproducing apparatus, when a read unit or both reads data from a storage medium or both, a determination unit determines the type of the storage medium from which the data is read, then, according to the determined type of the storage medium, a transfer rate change unit orders a data transfer unit to use a preset transfer rate corresponding to the type of the storage medium. The data transfer unit transfers the read data to the temporary storage unit at the ordered transfer rate. This allows data to be transferred without a significant change in the amount of data transfer, which suppresses or prevents noise.

  • Patent number: 8565052
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for correcting repeatable runout. In one aspect, an open loop tracking signal is received and squared. A discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of the squared open loop tracking signal is obtained. A velocity magnitude and an absolute value of the phase of the open loop tracking signal is determined. A RRO correction signal is iteratively constructed by performing a partial correction based on an initial phase selected and an initial velocity amplitude, measuring a relative velocity amplitude, performing a partial control correction using the initial phase and relative velocity amplitude if the amplitude is smaller than an initial amplitude or using the initial phase rotated by one hundred eighty degrees and the relative velocity amplitude if the amplitude is larger than an initial amplitude, and repeating the above steps until a tracking controller can perform closed loop control of the track to optical pickup unit velocity.

  • Patent number: 8509046
Abstract: A recording wavelength generator selects control parameters of a recording pulse sequence, based on combinations of mark length, a first space length of a first space immediately before the mark, and a second space length of a second space immediately after the mark. A laser drive circuit records the marks by the recording pulse sequence. The first and second space lengths are classified into m and n types, respectively. An absolute value of a difference between two predetermined control parameters from among (m×n) control parameters selected during recording on a second information layer located on an incidence side of the laser beam with respect to a predetermined first information layer from among N information layers is equal to or greater than an absolute value of a difference between two predetermined control parameters from among the (m×n) control parameters selected during recording on the first information layer.

  • Patent number: 8503273
Abstract: An optical disc device and a recording method is provided in which information can be additionally recorded on an optical disc, which has a servo layer and recording layers separately formed, by accurately correcting a relative angle between a light beam and the optical disc used in the previous recording without providing an area where recording is not performed while maintaining the stability of tracking servo. The above subject can be solved by studying with high accuracy the relative angle between the optical disc and the optical axis used in the previous recording by applying a radial tilt servo according to a signal from the recording layers with the tracking servo applied by the servo layer. Further, the additional recording can be performed stably by fixing the radial tilt at the previously studied angle when the recording is performed.

  • Patent number: 8492665
Abstract: One embodiment of an apparatus for capacitive sensing and capacitive measuring having a digital circuitry (16) which has a digital input port P1 communicating with a capacitive sensing element (10). A resistance element (12) forms an electrical pathway between the sensing element and a signal generator (18) by electrically communicating with both. The signal generator outputs adjustable singles to charge and discharge the sensing element. The voltage Vc of the sensing element at the input port P1 will cause logic level change between “1” and “0” inside the digital circuitry when passing through the logic threshold of the digital circuit. The digital circuitry measures the time between the logic level changes and the reference points of the signals, and then calculates the capacitance or the capacitance change. The digital circuitry can be a microcontroller and the signal source can be the microcontroller's output port. Other embodiments are described and shown.
