Abstract: A records management system classifies records according to a file plan. Record are declared, and then classified. Some records have in initially indeterminate classification and classification is deferred, either by request or due to a lack of sufficient information to classify the record according to the file plan. Unclassified records are placed into a temporary container. At some time while in the temporary container a classification event occurs with a given record which allows the records management system to classify the record and place it into a container corresponding to its classification.

Abstract: A method for enabling a user of a communication network to get information about entities is presented. The entities are classified in an entity database according to a plurality of characteristics, and the user is associated with a list of contacts, each contact being associated with a log of communication sessions the contact has been involved in through the communication network. For each communication session the log includes an indication of parties involved in the communication session.

Abstract: A system and a method for replicating data among heterogeneous databases are described. The system includes an initialization module for creating and initializing shared memory, a message queue and a semaphore; a processing module including a data reader, a data adapter and a data loader; a replication module for replicating the data in the shared memory to a target database according to the messages in the message queue; and a cleaning module for releasing the shared memory after the replication. The method includes creating and initializing the shared memory, the message queue and the semaphore; reading data from the source database, then converting the data into target data for a target database, and loading the target data in the shared memory; replicating the target data in the shared memory to the target database according to the messages in the message queue; and releasing the shared memory after the replication.

Abstract: A system and method of selectively consolidating applications on a machine comprises retrieving resource utilization data for a plurality of applications over a plurality of cycles for designated resource dimensions. A representative utilization profile is calculated on each application for each resource dimension. Load mean and variance values of the applications are calculated for each resource dimension. Each application is assigned to a class based the mean and variance values. A consolidation algorithm is computed on each application for each resource dimension to determine if resource consumption of the consolidated applications potentially exceed an available capacity in a machine.

Abstract: A system for providing a recommended customized profile to a subject member of a social network for use in operating a subject customizable apparatus is described. The system includes a social network database storing profiles of members of the social network corresponding to multiple customizable apparatus including the subject customizable apparatus. The system also includes a central social network server having a processor and a tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to generate the recommended customized profile, for use by the subject member in operation of the subject customizable apparatus, based on at least one matching profile of other members in the social network.

Abstract: An analytics system and associated methods are disclosed. The analytics system may be used by site owners and others for various purposes, such as to identify and compare network sites that satisfy particular criteria, and to identify and compare keywords associated with these sites. The system may, among other services, include a service for analyzing keywords in terms of their potential to drive search engine to traffic to a particular site. The analysis may include an assessment of amounts of traffic these keywords are responsible for driving to sites having a shared audience with the particular site. The service may also generate associated keyword-related recommendations for increasing search engine traffic to the particular site.

Abstract: A recommender system can generate a predicted item rating for one user by performing collaborative filtering on item ratings from other users. The recommender system can include a client device that interfaces with a server to obtain a predicted item rating for a local user. The client device can generate a standardized ratings vector for the user, and computes a group identifier for the user based on the standardized ratings vector. The system also generates a noisy ratings vector for the local user, and sends a user-ratings snapshot to a recommendation server that includes the group identifier and the noisy ratings vector. The recommender system can also include the recommendation server that generates a predicted item rating for the user by performing collaborative filtering on ratings vectors from a plurality of other users that belong to the same ratings group.

Abstract: A method and system of comparing data sets related to personality traits to identify various comparison results are disclosed. The method and system include determining, by a processing device, a plurality of data sets. The data sets include information related to a self-evaluation report for a first user based upon the first user's answers to a set of questions. The data sets also include information related to anonymous, aggregated data received from other users. The first user may select a context for performing a comparison of two or more of the data sets, including a self-evaluation report, an aggregated public perception of the first user, or an aggregated public perception of another user. The system performs the comparison to produce comparison results. The comparison results provide the first user with information related to their individual personality and/or information related to an existing or potential relationship between the first user and another user.

Abstract: An image inspecting apparatus includes a receiving unit configured to receive the sheet from the image forming section; a reading unit configured to read the image formed on the sheet received by the receiving unit; an inspection unit configured to inspect the image read by the reading unit; and a sheet stack portion configured to temporarily stack the sheet read by the reading unit and to eject the stacked sheet, the sheet stack portion stacking the sheet so as to obtain a time to be used for inspecting the image by the inspection unit.

Abstract: A density-based data clustering method executed by a computer system is disclosed. The method includes a setup step, a clustering step, an expansion step and a termination step. The setup step sets a radius and a threshold value. The clustering step defines a single cluster on a plurality of data points of a data set, and provides and adds a plurality of first boundary marks to a seed list as seeds. The expansion step expands the cluster from each seed of the seed list, and provides and adds at least one second boundary mark to the seed list as seeds. The termination step determines whether each of the data points is clustered, wherein the clustering step is re-performed if the determination is negative.

Abstract: In order to write data to a storage system accessible with a first and second file system, a manager receives a data write request associated with a file. The manager determines if a function supported by the second file system is needed to complete the write request. If so, the file is opened and extended with the first file system. The file is then opened and written to by the second file system. The file is truncated by the first file system, and closed by both file systems. If the second file system function is not needed, the file is opened, written, and closed by the first file system. In order to read data from a storage system using a function supported by the second file system, the second file system's cached storage system index is updated, and then the file is opened, read, and closed by the second file system.

Abstract: A system and method for backing up data from a client computer system are described. The system may include the client computer system, a primary backup server computer system, and an alternate backup server computer system. The primary backup server computer system may be privately accessible to the client computer system via a virtual private network (VPN). The alternate backup server computer system may be accessible to the client computer system via a public or open network such as the Internet. The client computer system may be configured to backup a first set of data to the alternate backup server computer system at a particular time via the Internet in response to determining that the client computer system is not connected to the VPN at the particular time.

Abstract: Various embodiments herein provide systems, methods, and software for unified configuration of multiple computer applications. Some embodiments include receiving input configuring a set of distinct computer applications in an application configuration environment. The application configuration environment may include a configuration repository that stores the settings of each distinct computer application. Such embodiments may further deploy the configuration settings from the configuration repository of the application configuration environment to at least one application execution environment including an instance of at least one of the set of distinct computer applications.

The method includes generating a search history for a user including one or more listings of search results, displaying a first search result listing on a web page, and displaying at least a second search result listing on the web page, the second search result listing having a relationship to the first search result listing within the search history.

Abstract: A software transactional memory system is provided that generates and stores compressed transactional locks in a portion of object headers. The software transactional memory system allocates preferred write log memory with a predefined size of memory that corresponds to a number of bits in the compressed transactional locks. The compressed transactional locks identify write log entries in corresponding write logs in the preferred write log memory. If the preferred write log memory becomes full, additional write log memory is allocated for write log entries and subsequent transactional locks are stored uncompressed in an auxiliary memory. A pointer that may be used to locate the uncompressed transactional lock is stored in the header. If an object header with a compressed transactional lock is needed for another use, the compressed transactional lock is uncompressed and stored in the auxiliary memory. A pointer that may be used to locate the uncompressed transactional lock is stored in the header.

Abstract: An application conforming to a set of rules is described for improving the accuracy of results provided by image search engines through identifying images as true positive hits, true negatives, false positive hits, and false negatives. The set of rules comprise: (1) causing players to associate given images with given metadata; (2) associating a player with a skill level; (3) utilizing measures of accuracy and time; (4) causing players to select a few images from a relatively large pool of images; and (5) testing player tolerance. An application that conforms to these rules tests the relevancy of images to given metadata tags. The application provides information that is the basis for adjusting the metadata associated with the tested images so as to improve the relevancy of image search results lists that include these images.

Abstract: International-roaming-relevant data are exchanged between two roaming partner networks as part of a new communication relationship. From the start of this communication relationship, a logbook is maintained at least on the data-processing system of the first communication network in which logbook changes are entered that relate to the content of the local database. Based on entries in the logbook, the data-processing system recognizes in completely automatic fashion that a synchronization of data is required and implements this action between the internal network operator database and the data-processing system of the second communication network.

Abstract: A method for scrubbing a storage pool is disclosed. The method includes loading a scrub queue with a number of identifiers corresponding to a number of datasets, selecting a first identifier from the scrub queue, where the first identifier corresponds to a first dataset, initiating a scrubbing of the first dataset. The method further includes, upon receiving an indication of a requirement to pause the scrubbing, pausing the scrubbing of the first dataset, creating a bookmark recording a last location within the first dataset that was scrubbed before pausing the scrubbing of the first dataset, detecting at least one change to a storage pool, and performing a modification in response to detecting the at least one change to the storage pool.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and article of manufacture of the present invention detects the presence of references to the same concept in separate sections of text, and, with no input required from the reader, presents the reader with information concerning the detected references to the concept. The information provided may comprise information related to the location of the reference to the concept in other sections of text, and the reader also is provided the ability to move from one reference to a concept directly to another reference to the same concept.
