Abstract: In a multimedia information collection control apparatus, a multimedia information collection unit collects information from more than one kind of medium (multimedia). A multimedia correspondence memory correspondingly stores multimedia information collected by the multimedia information collection unit. An information recognition unit recognizes the multimedia information stored in the multimedia correspondence memory and analyzes the multimedia information as personal data according to the recognition result. A multimedia database relationally stores the multimedia information as the personal data analyzed by the information recognition unit.

Abstract: An information providing service method comprising the steps of selecting an object displayed on a map in a user terminal, transmitting coordinate information relating to an object selected in the terminal and display object attribute information representing attributes of service information to be provided by the object to a server connected to the terminal over a network, transmitting spatial range information, attribute information and a URL based on the transmitted coordinate information and display object attribute information from the server to the terminal, and displaying an information bubble along with the object at a position indicated by the transmitted spatial range information on a display unit of the terminal, whereby the service information is provided such that the service information is linked with map information of the terminal to the user, and the information bubble is displayed in an appropriate size on the map information.

Abstract: A system and method for generating a report by a reporting tool of the Systems Applications and Products (SAP) online financial software. An SAP-readable Aspect file is generated and transmitted to the SAP system where the Aspect file may be queried for generating the report. The Aspect file may be generated by a non-SAP bridge program that utilizes a dataset which may be in a SAP or a non-SAP format. Processing the dataset to generate the Aspect file may include data filtration based on selection rules, and may additionally include rolling up the data of the dataset. Two or more of such datasets may be collectively used to form corresponding Aspect files for generating a report based on a query that relates to the corresponding Aspect files. The Aspect file may include procurement data such as purchase order data and invoice data.

Abstract: A system and method for electronically managing composite documents including a repository of electronically stored individual documents, where a subset of the individual documents are associated with other individual documents to form composite documents. A search tool is also provided for locating a selected individual document, where the selected individual document is associated with a selected composite document. A selection tool for selecting a function to be applied to the selected individual document includes an option to apply the function to other individual documents within the selected composite document. This allows the selected individual document to be operated on individually or with the other individual documents within the selected composite document.

Abstract: Systems and methods for data publishing. A back end server collects source data and generates a current publication database from the collected source data. The back end database server also copies the current publication database to an offline database. A front end server directs queries to an online database. After the current publication database is copied to the offline database, the front end server alternates the online and offline databases so that the offline database becomes online for data delivery and the online database becomes offline to prevent data delivery. An automation control database managed by the back end server contains job control data for instructing the front end server which of the associated databases is online and which of the associated databases is offline.

Abstract: A system for automatically monitoring database jobs in simple or complex networking environments to ensure that they run successfully. Failed database jobs are examined, corrected if possible, and re-executed. Database administrators are immediately notified of reoccurring database job failures by e-mail, pager notifications, or other alert methods. The amount of manual intervention is greatly reduced as most database jobs are simply corrected and restarted. The risk of data damage or loss due to subsequent jobs running on databases that are not current is reduced.

Abstract: A system and method for electronically managing discovery pleading information in which a user having an instant discovery request can search a repository to access prior discovery requests and corresponding responses to aid in formulating a response to the instant discovery request. The corresponding prior discovery responses include the documentary and other information previously produced in response to the prior discovery request, and may also include the text of the response itself. In this way the inventive system and method promotes efficiency and consistency in responding to discovery requests.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for performing efficient association traversal operations in a Common Information Model (CIM) implemented environment. A CIM Object Manager creates and defines instance objects and corresponding association objects in a repository. The CIM Object Manager creates wrappers for each object that include reverse links that show the relationship from an object to any corresponding association objects. When a relationship request for a selected object is received by the CIM Object Manager, it performs an association traversal operation using the reverse links stored in the repository. The CIM Object Manager locates the target object's wrapper in the repository, and collects relationship information from the reverse links included within the wrapper. The collected relationship information is then passed to the entity that initiated the request. Accordingly, efficient association traversals may be performed, without having to traverse each instance of defined association objects.

Abstract: A method for identifying a media file transmitted over a network includes creating a plurality of known media file identifiers, each for a respective one of a plurality of known media files, using an identifier generating algorithm, storing the known media file identifiers in a database, creating a media file identifier for an unknown media file with the identifier generating algorithm and comparing the media file identifier for the unknown media file with known media file identifiers in order to produce an identification of the unknown media file.

Abstract: A system and associated methodology is provided that is adapted to infer what to do with an item, and more particularly whether to archive and/or keep active an item in a more active, easy-to-access store based upon a cost-benefit analysis. The cost-benefit analysis determines the overhead associated with keeping the item active (e.g., not archiving it) versus the gains in connection with having quick and easy access to the item. The cost of maintaining an item in an active state is measured in terms of the size of the item which, in turn, affects the amount of space needed to store it. The benefit of keeping the item active is measured in terms of a probabilistic determination describing how a user will access the item in the future, which is a reflection of the utility of the item in an accessible state. The invention leverages notions of temporal sensitivity of the likelihood that an item will be needed in the future such that determined values and inferences can be dynamically updated over time.

Abstract: Computer-based method and system for providing guidance to a purchaser for selecting an appliance that generally requires venting are provided. The guidance includes recommendations regarding a venting arrangement for the appliance. The method allows providing a database for storing appliance-related information that includes a respective identifier for each appliance. The appliance-related information further includes venting requirements data for each appliance. A vent wizard is configured to provide a set of prompts over a communications network to elicit information from the purchaser regarding a respective appliance of interest to the purchaser, and vent parameters for the venting arrangement for the appliance. The database is accessed in view of the information supplied by the purchaser.

Abstract: Techniques for responding to a request for data from a server operated by an entity or enterprise on a network include generating and storing a first concept in association with a first relationship of a first relationship type, which relates concepts in a first category, and a second relationship of a second relationship type, which relates concepts in a second category; and responding to the request based on the first concept and the second relationship. The request is based on an enterprise-specific vocabulary of names and relationships among the names. The names are of solutions, technologies, products, services and activities, or any other information associated with the entity. The first concept is one of a plurality of atomic concepts among names in the enterprise-specific vocabulary. The first concept is associated with a first category of a plurality of categories that encompass the enterprise-specific vocabulary.

Abstract: A package management information recording section 131 creates and records on a recording medium 120 package management information for managing packages recorded on the recording medium 120. A content file recording section 132 records on the recording medium 120 content files of content file groups included in packages, and also creates and records on the recording medium 120 content file group management information for managing these content file groups. A content/metadata correspondence information recording section 133 creates and records on the recording medium 120 information on correspondence between content files and metadata files within a package or correspondence between a package itself and metadata files. By this means, the correspondence between content files and metadata files can always be maintained correctly when they are recorded separately.

Abstract: The described subject matter provides for managing and streaming media content. A server/client component accesses a first playlist that is in a native data format. A translator component translates the first playlist into a canonical data format, forming a second playlist in the canonical format. The content referenced by the second playlist is streamed.

Abstract: A proxy engine (108), in communication with a web crawler (100), extends the performance of the web crawler (100) by modifying hyperlink requests and creating synthetic hyperlink requests from data received from a web site (104). The proxy engine (108) converts hyperlinks to a method used by a target web site. The proxy engine receives data from a web site (104) located across a network (102), and then determines whether additional data from the web site (104) is extractable. In response to determining that additional data from the web site (104) is extractable, the proxy engine (108) creates at least one synthetic hyperlink for extracting the data from the web site (104). The proxy engine (108) then combines the at least one synthetic hyperlink with the data received from the website (104) to create combined data and then sends the combined data to the crawler (100).

Abstract: An electronic book device receives from an external delivery source book data representing the contents of a book, a reciter images, for example, of famous persons who read aloud the contents of the book based on the received book data, and the corresponding reciter voice data, and then displays the received book data and reciter images on the display. A user views the received book data and reciter images displayed on the display and causes the reciter images to read the book data aloud in voices represented by the reciter voice data.

Abstract: A system and method for performing an indirect directory search is implemented. In the indirect search, entry attributes that reference other objects may selectively be searched. An attribute syntax for a distinguished name (DN) which is a reference is defined. If an attribute value belonging to an attribute corresponding to the reference syntax is in an entry found by the search, the value points to another entry in the directory. The attributes (members) of the entry pointed to are selectively retrieved, depending on parameters in the search request.

Abstract: A system and method is provided to facilitate communications between object systems. A caller is provided having optimized in-lined functionality when initiating a remote function call between managed and unmanaged object systems, for example. The in-lined functionality includes utilizing direct calls and returns within a calling function. In this manner, pushing additional arguments onto an execution stack because of an external stub reference is mitigated. In addition, one or more code loops can be analyzed to enable stack markers to be “hoisted” and thus pushed a single time instead of each time the calling function executes. Other aspects of the optimized caller provide garbage collection and thread management, security attribute checking on outgoing calls, calling convention considerations, wherein arguments and return values are organized according to the convention utilized by the remote object system, and in-lined marshalling to provide enhanced performance over external stub code references.

Abstract: Disclosed is a customer relationship management system and operation method thereof that enables a technician to seize the customer's satisfaction and sensitivity with respect to respective service providers, perform reception of the corresponding customer based on the seized information, register the seized information in a database, and perform a service using a proper reception for the corresponding customer after confirming the sensitivity of the customer. According to the customer relationship management system and operation method, the customer can directly select the technician, and thus remove the uneasy feeling caused by a strange visitor. Also, by confirming again the customer's satisfaction with the service after completion of the service providing, the reliability of the service with respect to the customer is improved.

Abstract: In a database management system (DBMS) (60) for a database application (10) including a database (12) having a table (14, 16, 18) and a unique key index (42) having indexes (44, 46, 48) therefor, the DBMS (60) includes a data manager (64), an index manager (66), a transaction manager (62), and a lock manager (68) which restricts access to the table by assigning locks to elements thereof. In order to avoid deadlock in the database application due to the pseudo-deleted entries, the lock categories include an X-lock and a Conditional S-lock, and have lock attributes including at least a Delete attribute for the X-lock. The Conditional S-lock is compatible (granted by the lock manager) with an X-lock whose Delete attribute is NOT SET, but is not compatible (granted) with an X-lock whose Delete attribute is SET. Each index entry includes a pseudo-delete flag which is SET by the index manager (66) to indicate deletion of the indexed row.
