  • Patent number: 5607322
Abstract: A battery receptacle has first and second types of electrical contacts received in guide slots formed in facing end wall surfaces of a housing. The first type of electrical contact has a inwardly facing protrusion extending inwardly of the compartment a distance sufficient to be engaged by the positive electrical contact of a battery but less than the distance required to make contact with the negative electrical contact of the battery. The second type of electrical contact is a tapered spring contact with the wide end positioned inwardly of the receptacle, the diameter of the wide end being larger than the diameter of the positive contact of a battery. With batteries correctly installed, the first type of contact engages the positive contact of the battery and the second type of contact engages the negative contact of the battery. In any other configuration, at least one of the electrical contacts is not engaged with a battery contact.

  • Patent number: 5607328
Abstract: A single-piece electrical receptacle terminal comprises a contact section having an inner box-shaped contact body and an outer body wrapped therearound. The outer contact body provides a more robust structure that protects the inner contact body, as well as providing a window for engagement with a connector housing locking lance, and an additional spring beam for increasing the contact arm spring force. The outer body also has a lead-in section for smoothly guiding a male terminal into the contact area as well as enhancing the ease of insertion of the receptacle terminal through a seal cavity. The long outer body that extends over of the whole length of the inner contact also provides a stable support of a cavity of a connector housing. The single-piece design where the layout extends in the longitudinal direction reduces material waste and provides for a more cost-effective design than a two piece terminal.

  • Patent number: 5605474
Abstract: An electrical harness employs a flexible twisted wire of circular cross-section formed from a multiplicity of electrically conductive strands. Electrical connectors are secured to the wire at equidistantly spaced positions along the length of the wire. Each connector is an integral one-piece structure having a center section and two wing sections. Each connector is crimped in position by folding the wing sections over the wire such that the wire is sandwiched between the center section and the wing sections. A transverse orifice extending through the connector and the wire facilitates forming an electrical connection between a threaded terminal and the wire.

  • Patent number: 5597316
Abstract: Disclosed is a connector from a memory card in which the eject plate bears on the link arm at a first contact position during insertion. During ejectment a separate contact position is engaged. The distance between the first contact position used during insertion and the pivot point of the link arm is greater than the distance between the second contact position and the pivot point of the link arm by a factor of between 3:1 to 6:1. A significant mechanical advantage is therefore realized so that the card may be inserted with little resistance force while ample ejecting force is available.
