Patent number: 5879172Abstract: An adapter for interfacing a tester with the leads of a dual-flatpack or quad-flatpack is disclosed herein. The adapter includes lengths of a conductive elastomer for making electrical contact with the rows of leads extending from the flatpack. The lengths of conductive elastomer are each located within a slot formed in a body of the adapter and are exposed within a depression in the adapter, where the width and length of the depression correspond to the width and length of the flatpack. The adapter is frictionally secured to the flatpack when the adapter is pressed onto the flatpack. The resilient conductive elastomer makes reliable contact to the leads of the flatpack.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: Emulation Technology, Inc.Inventors: Paula E. Patent number: 5879193Abstract: The invention concerns a connector of the shielded type comprising a socket (1) attached to a printed circuit board (CI) and a plug (7) designed to be mechanically and electrically coupled to socket (1). One wall of socket (1) is covered with a shielding (5) of electrically conductive material. This shielding (5) is extended on its front part by projections (52) folded back on themselves so as to form a spring, these springs emerging inside socket (1) and exerting a pushing force on plug (7) along a direction orthogonal to the direction of insertion of the plug into the socket, so as to establish a galvanic contact with shielding (9b) of plug (7).Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: Framatome Connectors InternationalInventors: Jacky Thenaisie, Patrick Champion

Patent number: 5879168Abstract: A connector having a connector body with opposing end contacts. The connector also includes tabs coupled to the connector body and positioned between the opposing end contacts. Provided between the tabs and the opposing end contacts are circular stabilizers. When no force is applied to the opposing end contacts, the tabs and the circular stabilizers hold the connector in a cylindrical holder. When a compressive force is applied on each opposing end contact, the circular stabilizers pivot about an axis while maintaining the position of the connector in the holder. Further, as the opposing end contacts are compressed, they move across the connector surface of the component making contact with the connector. The movement of the opposing end contacts "wipes" across the surface and, thus, forms a good electrical connection between the connector and the surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Benson Chan, Fletcher L. Patent number: 5857865Abstract: A sealed F-connector, with a threaded section and a recessed section adjacent the threaded section, has a ring-shaped elastomeric sealing member formed within the recessed section and affixed to the surface of the recessed section. When a connector shell from a mating connector is screwed on, the sealing member deforms as the connector shell screws on over the sealing member, thereby lining at least a portion of the internal thread of the connector shell and at least a portion of the recessed section of the F-connector. The deformed sealing member thereby establishes a barrier to the penetration of moisture between the F-connector and the mating connector.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald Shimirak, Anthony Vranicar

Patent number: 5857859Abstract: Electrical connectors having actuating slides, for connection to a second complementary connector, the actuating slide being attachable to an outer housing part of the first connector and the actuating slide interacting with the second connector, are known. The actuating slides often have a U-shaped design and are fastened to the outer housing part of the first connector. In order to ensure correct functioning of the actuating slide with the first connector, it is necessary for the actuating slide to be pushed onto the housing of the first connector from a specific direction. In order to achieve this, the outer housing part has guide means for guiding the actuating slide and the actuating slide has corresponding complementary means. The guide means and/or the actuating slide are/is configured in such a way that the actuating slide and the outer housing part can be joined together only from one side of the housing part.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1996Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventors: Andreas Machill, Horst Gehrke, Markus Kressmann
