Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes an obtaining unit configured to obtain program information on programs that are to be broadcast in a predetermined time period; an extraction unit configured to extract keywords indicating the content of the programs from text data contained in the program information; a storage unit configured to prestore theme definition information containing information on the keywords; a theme identifying unit configured to identify which theme a predetermined program belongs to on the basis of the keyword and the theme definition information; and a rate-of-change computation unit configured to compute, for each of the identified themes, a rate of change of the number of times a program belonging to the identified theme is broadcast on a first day in the predetermined time period to the number of times the program is broadcast on a second day.
Abstract: A video and audio stream is predicted that is to be selected for reception next to a video and audio stream that is being received by the terminal or that is after a video and audio stream that has been selected for reception by the terminal. Resources necessary for delivering the predicted video and audio stream, in addition to resources necessary for the video and audio stream that is being received by the terminal or that has been selected for reception by the terminal, are secured in advance before a user of the terminal selects the next video and audio stream. The predicted video and audio stream is not delivered to the terminal before it coincides with a video and audio stream that is selected at the next zapping.
Abstract: Provided are a PMCP extended metadata for securing interoperability among devices constituting a digital data broadcasting emitting system, a data stream generating device using the same, a digital data broadcasting emitting system and a digital data broadcasting emitting method. The PMCP extended metadata includes: a channel metadata for providing system information of data events constituting a data broadcasting program; a program and system information protocol (PSIP) data event metadata for providing identification information and program guide of data events; and an advanced television system committee (ACAP) data service metadata for providing encoding information including signaling information and transmission protocol information of data broadcasting contents corresponding to data events.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method of transmitting and receiving a broadcast signal and an apparatus for receiving the broadcast signal. In the present invention, first program table information describing a broadcasting stream, and second program table information including additional service identifier information of the multiplexed stream and third program table information describing the additional service data for the multiplexed stream are obtained. The additional service can be provided with the additional service data by using the third program table information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a channel for providing an IPTV is disclosed, which is capable of improving use efficiency of network resource and reducing a channel zapping time by controlling a channel type of each channel and a bit rate of video data to be transmitted through each channel, the method comprising (a) determining an optimal channel status vector among channel status vectors to indicate channel types of respective channels, wherein the optimal channel status vector enables a minimum cost corresponding to the sum of an average channel zapping time of respective channels and an average distortion value of video data transmitted through the respective channels; and determining an optimal bit rate at the determined optimal channel status vector; and (b) transmitting the video data at the optimal bit rate through the respective channels.

Abstract: Disclosed in one embodiment is the use of a terrestrial media access control (MAC) chip or circuit in a satellite modem. The satellite modem comprises a satellite receiver, a satellite transmitter, an adaptor, and a terrestrial MAC chip. The adapter translates between the satellite physical layer and the physical layer of the terrestrial MAC chip. Protocols, messaging and signaling is spoofed for the terrestrial MAC chip such that it can be integrated into a satellite system. The received satellite signal is filtered so select one or more sub-channels that are fed to the terrestrial MAC chip. The terrestrial MAC chip could use a variety of physical layers, for example, Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) or World Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX).
Abstract: Disclosed is a digital broadcast receiver including a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) module for receiving digital broadcastings of multiple channels; an output unit for outputting voice and image signals of the digital broadcastings; and a controller for controlling the DMB module to receive the digital broadcastings while successively and automatically switching the channels at a predetermined time interval, and controlling the digital broadcasting data received in the DMB module to be transmitted to the output unit.

Abstract: A digitized analog television signal processing system is disclosed, comprising an analog-to-digital converter, a demodulation unit, a decoding unit, and a control unit. The analog-to-digital converter samples a television signal comprising a video signal. The demodulation unit demodulates the video signal. The decoding unit decodes the demodulated video signal. The control unit adjusts the demodulation unit according to a signal quality indicator generated during and/or after the decoding of the decoding unit.
Abstract: A system and method for managing bandwidth used by videos in a wireless telecommunications network is provided. In one embodiment, the videos originate at mobile devices generating videos of a single event such as a concert, sporting event, graduation, or other event attended by multiple users. The mobile devices may communicate the videos to social networking websites where the videos may be viewed by multiple users. Embodiments of the present invention conserve bandwidth by selecting one or more of the videos of the single event to send to each of the destinations specified by all of the videos capturing the event. An instruction is then sent to each of the mobile devices generating nonselected video streams to discontinue transmission of the video streams.

Abstract: Provided is a method for controlling a buffer in a transmitter and a receiver of a video transmission system in an environment where a channel transfer rate varies. The method includes: if a channel transfer rate is changed, changing a capacity of a buffer in a transmitter being used in proportion to the c rate, the buffer temporarily storing and outputting the video data to a receiver, or changing the delay time of a buffer in the receiver by gradually changing an operating clock in the receiver.
Abstract: A media work may be associated with an action by (a) extracting features from the media work, (b) determining an identification of the media work, based on the features extracted, using a sub-linear time search, such as an approximate nearest neighbor search for example, and (c) determining an action based on the identification of the media work determined. The media work may be an audio work. The features extracted from the work may include (A) a frequency decomposition of a signal of the audio work, (B) information samples of the audio work, (C) average intensities of sampled windows of the audio work, and/or (D) information from frequencies of the audio work.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image-processing method and an image-processing device. The device includes a motion estimation module, an intra-field operation module, an inter-field operation module, a weighing value generator and a blending unit. The method includes: receiving a block of an inter-frame-estimated frame and acquiring a motion vector of the block; performing a first verifying operation of the block to obtain a first verified result which indicates an adaptive level of the motion vector to the block; determining whether the block is to be divided into a plurality of sub-blocks according to the first verified result; performing a second verifying operation of the sub-block to determining an adaptive level of the motion vector to the sub-block so as to acquire a weighing value of the sub-block; and performing a de-interlacing operation of the sub-block according to the weighing value.
Abstract: An information processing system, an information processing apparatus and method, a recording medium, and a computer program can easily provide a user with program information, which is easier to see for the user, and display the program information on a limited screen space effectively. An EPG server of the service provider creates EPG information on the basis of information on programs of a broadcasting station and lays open the EPG information to the outside of the EPG server. An editing server acquires and edits the EPG information periodically at predetermined intervals and lays open edited EPG information to the public. A hard disk recorder requests the edited EPG information from the editing server through a network on the basis of an instruction of a user and causes a monitor to display the edited EPG information supplied from the editing server on the basis of the request. The invention can be applied to an EPG providing system.
Abstract: A signal from a tuner is outputted to a primary display. An analog signal from another tuner is digitally compressed, subjected to an encrypting process, transmitted to a secondary display by a wireless LAN, and displayed by an LCD of the secondary display. An output of a digital tuner is displayed by the primary display. A video signal of 480I is transmitted to the secondary display. A signal inputted through the Internet is decoded and sent to the primary display. The signal is sent to the secondary display in the compressed state without being decoded and the decoding process is executed in the secondary display.

Abstract: A first signal representing a reduced size video program is transmitted from a central location to a plurality of user terminals in a television signal. A second signal representative of an EPG is generated at one of the user terminals. The first and second signals are linearly combined and applied to a display monitor to display the reduced size video program and the EPG on the screen of the monitor simultaneously in a PIG format. In one embodiment a plurality of reduced size video programs are transmitted in the television signal and one of them is selected for display in a PIG format by marking the program listing in the EPG corresponding to the selected reduced size video program with a cursor.
Abstract: Personal video recorders (PVRs) contain many desirable features, including the ability to skip undesirable portions of a recorded broadcast program. Disclosed is a method and system for a PVR user to share with other users tags identifying desirable program portions or segments (“Hot-Spots”) and undesirable segments (“Cold-Spots”). Other users are able to either automatically or manually to adjust the replay of the program based on the tags.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for identifying advertisements in television broadcasts. In an aspect, a method includes identifying caption data that has been received at least a threshold number of times and received over at least a threshold number of channels as repeated caption data, selecting video frames indexed at times and channels that that correspond times and channels of the repeated caption data, providing the selected video frames to a video processing system that identifies advertising objects in the video frame data and receiving from the video processing system the advertising objects, and for each advertising object, associating the advertising object with the repeated caption data having times and channel indices that match the time and channel index of the video frame from which the advertising object was identified.
