  • Patent number: 7944508
Abstract: A method for automatically detecting and suppressing cross-color and cross-luma present in a baseband component video signal includes receiving component pixel data of a current pixel, a first previous pixel and a second previous pixel. First, second and third differences are calculated based on the component pixel data of the current, first previous and second previous pixels, and the presence of cross-luma and/or cross-color is determined for the current pixel based on an absolute value of at least one of the first, the second and the third differences. A per pixel count associated with the component pixel data of the current pixel is determined based on the determined presence of at least one of cross-luma and cross-color, and the component pixel data of the current pixel is modified based on the per pixel count.

  • Patent number: 7936922
Abstract: Method and apparatus for extending regions in two-dimensional (2-D) image space or volumes in three-dimensional (3-D) image space that are generated by a test area-based region growing mechanism. Embodiments of a dilation mechanism may perform post-processing of a region or volume generated by the test area-based region growing mechanism to correct for an edge inset resulting from a radius used to define the test area. The dilation mechanism may perform a morphological dilate to expand the region or volume to the proper edge of the desired object in the image data within the tolerance range of the threshold, and thus corrects for the inset error introduced by the test area radius used by the region growing mechanism. The dilation mechanism may be limited to extending the region or volume to the radius distance from the edge of the original region or volume generated by the region growing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7936897
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image inputting section through which image information containing object information and secure object information is received, the object information representing at least one object and the secure object information indicating an object that should be protected against tampering. A first image-data generator generates first image data for forming an image, the first image data being generated in accordance with the object information. A secure object identifying section identifies a secure object based on the secure object information. A characteristic information detector extracts at least a part of the object information on the secure object, the part of the object information being a characteristic information on the secure object. A second image-data generator generates second image data for forming a characteristic image representing the characteristic information. An image data combiner combines the first image data and the second image data.

Abstract: An apparatus for marking a film copy includes a mapper and a coder. The mapper maps a print identifier to be associated with the film copy into a serial number comprising a sequence of J numbers. The coder creates at least two-error correcting numbers, e.g. Y and Z, as a function of one, or more, of the J numbers. The film copy is then marked in accordance with L numbers, which comprise at least the two-error correcting numbers Y and Z.

  • Patent number: 7929778
Abstract: In a digital signal processing system, a method for selecting a transform function to apply to an input signal based on characteristics of the signal, and for self-adjusting criteria which are used in selecting a transform function to apply to a subsequent signal. Characteristics are obtained from the signal. The characteristics are compared to adjustable criteria which are used in selecting a transform function. Differing criteria are maintained for the different selectable transform functions. A record is maintained of transform functions selected and the particular characteristics that caused the selection. Based on the ability of a transform function to minimally define the coded signal, an inverse transform function is selected to decode the signal. The criteria used in selecting a transform function to apply to a subsequent signal are adjusted based on a quality measure of the decoded signal and the record of selected transform functions.

  • Patent number: 7929753
Abstract: Color is edited using a color representation including digital values B (brightness), e and f such that B=?{square root over (D2+E2+F2)}, e=E/B; f=F/B, where DEF is a linear color coordinate system. Alternatively, color is represented using digital values B, C (chroma) and H (hue), where cos C=D/B and tan H=E/F. Brightness can be changed without a color shift by changing the B coordinate and leaving unchanged the other coordinates e and f or C and H. Other features are also provided. Brightness coding methods are provided to reduced the size of image data for storage and/or network transmission. The coding methods include logarithmic coding. Some embodiments use logarithmic or linear coding depending on the brightness at a particular pixel.

  • Patent number: 7916922
Abstract: In a method, apparatus, and computer program encoded with a data structure, for processing radiographic images and digital fluoroscopy radiographic (DFR) images acquired with the same imaging system using a single detector, three different types of image orientation are defined. These are a “system flip/rotation” that is dependent on the imaging system, a “pre-flip/rotation” orientation that is applied before the images are shown on a monitor, and a “post-flip/rotation” that is applied after an image is shown on the monitor. For this orientation change, the original image must be stored and subsequently manipulated. For pre-processing, DFR images are subjected only to the system flip/rotation, whereas radiographic images are subjected to the system flip/rotation as well as the pre-flip/rotation. For post-processing, both the DFR images and the radiographic images are subjected to the post-flip/rotation.
