  • Patent number: 11669659
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining mechanical properties of formation rock using, for example, millimeter-scale test samples of the formation rock are disclosed. The test samples may be single edge notched beam (SENB) test samples. The systems and methods may include performing laboratory testing on the SENB test samples and recording laboratory testing data obtained from the laboratory testing and performing a simulation on a numerical model of the SENB test samples and recording the simulation data obtained from the simulation. The laboratory testing data and the simulation data may be compared, and a determination may be made as to whether a selected degree of correlation is present between the laboratory testing data and the simulation exists. Mechanical properties of the formation rock are obtained from the simulation data when the selected degree of correlation exists between the laboratory testing data and the simulation data.

  • Patent number: 11561215
Abstract: Overlapping pores in a multiscale model of heterogeneous core formation contributes errors during flow simulations. A scale-coupled multiscale modeling that corrects for contributions of overlapping pores may be used to determine capillary pressure and relative permeability of the heterogenous core formation more accurately. The effects of overlapping pores may be removed by converting pores that have a certain radius or are filled with certain fluids into solid regions. The effects of overlapping pores may also be removed by running flow simulations on a modified model and correcting various fluid properties of the core formation with the results.

  • Patent number: 11518039
Abstract: An automated robot design pipeline facilitates the overall process of designing robots that perform various desired behaviors. The disclosed pipeline includes four stages. In the first stage, a generative engine samples a design space to generate a large number of robot designs. In the second stage, a metric engine generates behavioral metrics indicating a degree to which each robot design performs the desired behaviors. In the third stage, a mapping engine generates a behavior predictor that can predict the behavioral metrics for any given robot design. In the fourth stage, a design engine generates a graphical user interface (GUI) that guides the user in performing behavior-driven design of a robot. One advantage of the disclosed approach is that the user need not have specialized skills in either graphic design or programming to generate designs for robots that perform specific behaviors or express various emotions.
