Patent number: 4589639Abstract: In the operator's station of a vehicle, it has been common practice to mount the steering wheel and the control levers needed to manipulate the vehicle on an adjustable control console. The control console may then be moved fore and aft to accommodate the individual operators that may operate the vehicle to enhance their comfort. Mechanical latching mechanisms have been used that provide only a selected number of positions to which the control console may be placed, and are often rather cumbersome. Hydraulic cylinders have also been incorporated into an adjustable control console design to provide an unlimited number of positions that the control console may assume. These designs, however, are quite complex, involving a plurality of hydraulic cylinders and extensive valving componentry. The present invention overcomes these problems by providing an actuating mechanism that is positioned about one of the pivot shafts that is utilized in the pivotal mounting of the control console to the vehicle frame.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1985Date of Patent: May 20, 1986Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventors: Gary S. Patent number: 4588172Abstract: In order to soften or stiffen the support offered by an elastic sheet, and in particular a vehicle seat back, the device comprises a flat spring (1) which is at each of its ends connected to the sheet (38), and fixed to a case (2, 3) containing an inclined disc (10, 12). Two discs are fixed to a control rod (24) which is mounted in the frame (36) of the seat and, when this rod is rotated, they cause the cases to be pivoted symmetrically, so that the spring is extended and stiffens the sheet or is shortened and renders the seat more soft.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1985Date of Patent: May 13, 1986Assignee: Cycles PeugeotInventors: Francois Fourrey, Patrice Ciciliani

Patent number: 4585218Abstract: Improvements result from using a feed roller always rotating at a constant surface speed to feed mail items successively with gaps between them from a stack to a franking machine without undue variations in the gap lengths when there are variations in the mail item lengths in respective stacks. A cam rocks a cradle about an input roller axis to bring a feed roller against the stack at a frequency to feed the items forward one by one. Gearing between rollers drives a two speed transmission to a cam via one way clutches. For envelopes shorter than a predetermined limit, the higher speed drive operates. When a rear mail guide member engages envelopes longer than the limit, a lever allows a pawl to disengage a wrap spring clutch disabling the higher speed drive and rendering the lower speed drive effective.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1985Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Roneo Alcatel LimitedInventors: Thomas D. Patent number: 4585227Abstract: A continuous scalloped stream of paper sheets is divided into a succession of discrete sections by an accelerating device in cooperation with one or more belt conveyors which receive the sections. The accelerating device has an elongated rubber pad attached to an endless chain conveyor which can move the pad into the path of movement of the stream of sheets toward the belt conveyor or conveyors. The belt conveyor(s) and the chain conveyor are accelerated from the speed of the advancing stream to a higher second speed as soon as the trailing end of the section which is about to be separated from the stream is engaged by the trailing end of the pad on the chain conveyor. The chain conveyor and the belt conveyor(s) are decelerated back to the speed of the stream as soon as the entire freshly formed section is transferred onto the belt conveyor(s) and before the fresh leader of the stream reaches the discharge end of the conveyor for the stream.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1984Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Grapha-Holding AGInventor: Hans Muller

Patent number: 4583722Abstract: There is disclosed a piston-cylinder assembly for use as a die spring wherein one end of the cylinder is connected to the source of nitrogen at high pressure to bias the piston outwardly through the opposite open end of the cylinder. The open end of the cylinder is provided with a high pressure seal and the opposite end of the piston is likewise provided with a high pressure seal. An annular chamber of relatively small cross sectional area is provided between the piston and the cylinder. A valve stem on the piston controls a passageway communicating with the annular chamber.
