  • Patent number: 4610483
Abstract: In a vehicle brake system including a pneumatic force multiplier apparatus in which a power piston moves by virtue of a pressure difference between atmospheric and negative pressure, a manual brake switch is provided to apply braking force without need for depressing the brake pedal. A controller includes a deceleration calculating circuit reading vehicle speed for every specified number of seconds and calculating the amount of deceleration. The deceleration is compared with a predetermined value and braking force is increased, maintained, or decreased depending on whether the vehicle is running on a downwardly sloping, level, or unwardly sloping road.

  • Patent number: 4610445
Abstract: There is illustrated and described a printing device having an integrated paper feeding apparatus adapted for supplying individual sheets of paper to the printing device to effect printing thereon. The integrated printer and paper feeding apparatus of the present invention is particularly suitable for use in word processing systems where the information to be printed in hard copy is contained in a memory device such as a floppy disk or the like. The apparatus may be directly linked to word processing equipment to receive the text of material to be printed. In addition to having the capability of automatically feeding individual sheets of paper from one or more paper trays to the printing device, the apparatus includes an automatic envelope supply mechanism for supplying individual envelopes to the printing device, as well as a manual paper feed option. After effecting printing on the paper or envelope, an ejector mechanism ejects the printed paper from the apparatus and into a receptacle in collated form.

  • Patent number: 4610438
Abstract: A hydraulically damped elastic engine mounting having a ring-shaped rubber spring member which takes up static and dynamic loads and is equipped with a damping disk immersed in a damping fluid in order to provide hydraulic damping. The damping disk is movably mounted with axial play between spherical or conical buffer surfaces, and is provided in the vicinity of the buffer surfaces with passages through which the damping fluid can flow. The free path of the disk governs the damping applied, and at the same time prevents undesirable impact noise by the special design of the parts which move in relation to each other. Moreover, the damping disk may be constructed in such a way that interfering cavitation phenomena produced in the two surfaces are suppressed. This ensures that the damping device is fully effective in all vibration ranges and under all conditions occurring while the vehicle is being driven.

  • Patent number: 4609082
Abstract: In a double-tube vibration damper the cylinder engages by a terminal edge thereof an engagement face of a piston rod guiding and sealing unit. When the piston rod moves in the outward direction with respect to the cylinder, a high pressure occurs in the working chamber adjacent the piston rod guiding and sealing unit. Due to this high pressure damping liquid jets may escape between the terminal edge of the cylinder and the engagement face of the piston rod guiding and sealing unit. These liquid jets may cause foaming within the annular space defined between the cylinder and a container surrounding the cylinder. In view of avoiding such foaming, an annular cover member is provided between the cylinder and the container, which annular cover member prevents the direct entrance of liquid jets into the annular space between the cylinder and the container.

  • Patent number: 4609077
Abstract: An integral-type disk brake that can be readily assembled and which includes a caliper assembly, a pair of arms circumferentially spaced apart along the outer periphery of a disk rotor, a pair of protrusions extending radially outwardly of the rotor and engaging with the arms, and a pair of leaf springs resiliently engaging with the arms. When the caliper assembly including an inner pad and an outer pad is inserted between the arms during assembly, the arms push the springs and bend them circumferentially toward the axis of the rotor, thereby facilitating the insertion. The springs hold the outer pad into resilient engagement with the arms.

  • Patent number: 4609076
Abstract: A disc brake unit comprises a disc assembly of interleaved rotor discs and stator discs that are normally spring in one direction biased to a brake engaged condition. A hydraulically operated first piston engages a stator disc at one end of the unit to move it axially in opposition to the spring bias to release the pressure between the discs and thus release the brake. A non-rotatable stop adapted to contact only one intermediate stator disc is provided to prevent movement of the intermediate disc in a direction opposite to the one direction. A second piston engages a stator disc at the opposite end of the unit for moving the rotor and stator discs on one side of a stop into engagement with each other and applies a modulated force to said rotor and stator discs while the first power piston is in position to oppose the spring bias, to thereby apply slip braking torque to the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 4607828
Abstract: The invention relates to an antivibration support to be inserted between the frame and the engine of a vehicle. The support comprises two deformable chambers filled with liquid, separated by a deformable partition, and communicating with one another through a restricted passage, namely an operating chamber whose lateral wall forms a support and joins two rigid parts fixed respectively to the frame and to the engine, and a compensating chamber. When abnormally high thrusts are applied to the engine, the deformations of the wall are limited by abutment, against a ring immersed in the operating chamber and borne by the first rigid part, of a central foot fast to the second rigid part, and passing with clearance through the ring and/or of an overlapping sole terminating this foot.

  • Patent number: 4607833
Abstract: A device for feeding envelopes from a hopper to an envelope reading station upon demand. A pair of drive rollers are mounted on a first drive shaft by means of a one-way clutch which allows the rollers to rotate only in a feeding direction. Mounted below the drive rollers are a pair of driven rollers which have a brake applying a force to them counter to the feeding direction. The braking force minimizes the possibility of feeding two documents at the same time. A second substantially identical set of rollers are mounted downstream of the first set of rollers. Upon demand envelopes are fed through the feeder and retained in the nip of the second set of rollers with a portion of the envelope extending into an envelope reading area. An operator reads address indicia from the envelope and keys it into envelope processing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4606434
Abstract: A brake lining wear sensor includes a metal contact secured to a grounded brake lining support plate through a semiconductive ceramic bushing containing silicon carbide and silicon nitride which establishes an electrical resistance between the contact and the support plate so that the contact has a resistance to ground when the brake lining is not worn, but when the brake lining is worn and the contact touches a grounded brake rotor or drum, a short to ground occurs. The sensor is coupled by a lead wire to an indicator circuit which senses the resistance value in the circuit path to ground to determine whether the contact is connected to the indicator circuit and whether it is electrically grounded to the rotor. An indicator lamp comprises a tri-color LED to emit different colors signifying a normal condition, an open circuit, or a worn brake lining condition.
