Patent number: 6193024Abstract: A damping plate consists of at least one metal plate and has a pressure-transferring surface that applies offset pressure to a damping plate. The pressure-transferring surface has at least two areas with different degrees of resilience, and it can be placed at least in sections on a pressure-applying unit starting at least at a set pressure distributed over the entire pressure surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: February 27, 2001Assignee: Eagle-Picher Wolverine GmbHInventors: Peter Heppes, Hans-Herbert Noack, Karsten Weichsel

Patent number: 6179098Abstract: In a vehicular damper with a vehicle height adjusting function, a pressure source for adjusting the vehicle height is integrally assembled into the damper to improve the ease with which the damper is assembled into a vehicle body. For that purpose, on an outer peripheral portion of a damper main body there is provided a case which is connected to a damper rod and which is vertically movable. A refrigerant which varies between a gaseous phase and a liquid phase is contained in the case in a hermetically sealed manner. An electric heater is disposed inside the case to heat and evaporate the refrigerant by the electric heater. The vehicle height is increased by an increase in the vapor pressure inside the case.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yukio Hayakawa, Kiyoshi Nakahara

Patent number: 6155388Abstract: A brake beam assembly comprised of a compression member with a first end and a second end, a tension member with a third end and a fourth end, a strut connected to the tension member and the compression member, a first brake head, and a second brake head. The ends of the compression and tension members each contain at least two holes in which is disposed a fastener. At least one of the ends of the compression member and the end of said tension member is contiguous with each of the first brake head and the second brake head, and with the exception of the compression member, the tension member, and the fasteners, no other structural member is contiguous with the brake heads.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1998Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Buffalo Brake Beam CompanyInventor: Michael R. Sandmann

Patent number: 6041879Abstract: A rotation transmission device is mounted in a drive train of a four-wheel drive vehicle to selectively distribute driving force to selected vehicle wheels according to the travel condition of the vehicle. This device includes an outer ring and an input shaft. A cylindrical face is formed on one of the opposed surfaces of the outer ring and the input shaft, while cam faces are formed on the other opposed surface to define a wedge-shaped space between the cylindrical face and each cam face. Rollers are mounted in pockets formed in a retainer mounted between the input shaft and the outer ring. An electromagnetic clutch is coupled to the retainer. A switch spring is mounted between the retainer and the input shaft. A two-way clutch is provided between the outer ring and the input shaft.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: NTN CorporationInventors: Kenichiro Itoh, Makoto Yasui, Shiro Goto

Patent number: 5454743Abstract: A surfboard has ribbed or corrugated side rails for improved strength without an increase in weight. In a first embodiment, the board comprises a rigid, buoyant foam core, over which a rigid shell is formed, the shell having side rails with at least one external longitudinal rib. In a second embodiment, the board comprises an injection-molded plastic shell, into which a buoyant foam material is injected. The shell is formed with at least one internal longitudinal rib along each side rail. A portion of the top surface of the surfboard is covered with a layer of unbroken loop nylon material overlying a layer of closed cell foam material to form a resilient, non-abrasive, slip-resistant, water-repellent mat. A foot piece having a sole portion of unbroken loop nylon material is removably attachable to the mat by a double-sided patch of fibrous hook material.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1992Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Inventor: Eric Simonson

Patent number: 4625670Abstract: The deck of a container ship is provided with longitudinally running rails carrying cassettes adapted to support standarized cargo units, such as containers, for example. Each cassette includes transverse front and rear guide members each having vertical guide bars on both of its transverse faces. By spacing the cassettes apart longitudinally, two cassettes may, between themselves, support a further stack of containers. In use, each cassette is locked in relation to the deck, longitudinally as well as transversely.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1984Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Trans Consultants ABInventor: Jadwiga Igielska

Patent number: 4531920Abstract: A waterjet propulsion system having a transversely mounted engine driving one or more pumps with multiple inlets located so that at low speed, subplaning operations a greater flow of water is available, but at higher, planing speeds some inlets vent and a reduced flow is delivered to the pumps. This is accomplished by locating some inlets between the subplaning waterline and the planing waterline of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1983Date of Patent: July 30, 1985Inventor: John G. Stricker
