  • Patent number: 4135286
Abstract: A method for producing a cooled sputtering target assembly is described. The resultant target is also described. The material to be sputtered is provided in the form of powder which is hot isostatically pressed in a toroidal metallic container under conditions which promote compaction and bonding of the powder particles to form a fully dense material. The container is then partially removed from the target material except for a remnant around the outer surface. A cooling jacket is then fabricated and attached to the remnant of the container.

  • Patent number: 4135378
Abstract: Feeding apparatus for feeding material for a predetermined distance past a predetermined point on a feed-path comprises a pair of feed rollers, one of which is coupled to a stepping motor. A sensing means in the form of a light beam is provided on the feeding path at the predetermined point and when the material being fed intersects and interrupts this light beam, a control means for the stepping motor commences to count pulses transmitted to the motor. After a number of pulses have been counted which causes the motor to feed the material precisely to the predetermined location, the motor is stopped. The control means also has means for actuating a further apparatus (such as a crimping press) which performs an operation on the material. This control means is effective to delay energization of the crimping press is the press is not in a state of readiness for performing the crimping operation.

  • Patent number: 4134255
Abstract: A chain particularly useful for draglines in various type strip mining operations is disclosed. The chain is made up of individual, separately assembled links of generally a U-shape having spaced pin lugs at one end. The lugs have aligned pin eyes for holding a pin between them, which is received generally flush with the outside surfaces of the lugs. To prevent pin rotation and to prevent oblong wear in the pin eyes, the pin and the eyes have a flat surface on the side toward the open end of the U-shaped link. With the pin installed in the eyes, a roll pin is press fit through one lug and through that end of the pin to retain the link pin in place. Openings in the lug are oblong shaped, so that some forward and backward movement of the link pin is permitted and the roll pin is never put in a shear situation. The link units are assembled at 90.degree. to one another, with a pin of one link passing through the next link.

  • Patent number: 4134196
Abstract: An addition material in powder or particulate form comprising at least one addition agent selected from the group consisting of calcium, magnesium and aluminum is extruded to provide a compact core wire, which is enveloped by a tape of iron or steel. The tape is circularly shaped such that one widthwise marginal portion is folded tightly over the other widthwise marginal portion in overlapping relation. The tape thus shaped serves as a protective covering for the core wire. Great lengths of continuous wire can be manufactured by the continuous production process. The wire shaped composite addition material produced in this way is added to molten iron and steel by means of continuous wire feeding and hereby provides for effective deoxidation and desulfurization of such melts. Furthermore the linear additive is easy to handle and to store.

  • Patent number: 4134195
Abstract: A heat exchanger plate of single unitary structure and relatively thin material has a deep draw formed through one surface adjacent to each of the opposite ends to provide fluid openings and a lesser depth inner draw formed in the other surface to provide a fluid passage communicating with the fluid openings. The plate is adapted to oppose adjacent plates in a stacked configuration to provide heat transfer between separate fluids flowing through counterflow passages on opposite sides of the plate. The recessed area on one surface of the plate forms a fluid passage with its adjacent plate in the stacked array for flow of a first fluid through the stack from side to side of an enclosing housing. A collar formed around each plate opening by the deep draw is adapted to nest with a corresponding collar of an adjacent plate to provide manifold sections communicating with a second fluid passage.

  • Patent number: 4132100
Abstract: A pipe bender for bending pipes, comprising two pivotally interconnected levers. The first lever is provided with a pivot pin and a circular segment disposed coaxially thereto which defines the inside bend of the pipe to be bent, for which purpose a slot is disposed in the circular circumferential portion, and with a first outer support for the pipe to be bent. The second lever is provided with a fork having two arms which receive the pivot pin, and with a second outer support for the pipe to be bent. The bar of the first lever may pass during the bending operation between the arms of the fork in order to bend a pipe through an angle of 180.degree. (U-shape). To bend pipes of different diameters the circular segment is divided in two parts relative to its median perpendicular plane. These two halves are to be spaced apart by means of spacer means.

  • Patent number: 4132063
Abstract: Bushings formed by rubber rings bonded to the steel tubes having octagonal bores are inserted into or removed from two parallel groups of spaced cylindrical bores formed in a track shoe that is clamped in the machine. The machine includes a single hydraulic ram having an octagonal rod secured to its piston, which rod receives predetermined arrangements of bushings and/or spacers thereon that are first pivoted into alignment with the first group of bores to insert new bushings into the bores; and are thereafter pivoted into alignment with the second group of bores to insert another group of new bushings into the second group of bores. The radius and angle of the arc through which the push rod is pivoted is arranged to position corresponding flats of the two groups of octagonal bushings at the same but complementary angles to a reference plane having the axes of the bores lying therein. By placing an elongated spacer on the push rod, old bushings may be pushed out of each group of bores.

  • Patent number: 4130924
Abstract: This relates to a method for facilitating the rapid and convenient installation and removal of the top section of a steelmaking vessel of a type that is rotatably mounted i.e. provided with trunnions. The method involves providing the top section with lifting brackets and also providing a hinge connection between the top section and the vessel body. During removal, the vessel body is rotated while lifting forces are applied to the brackets thereby causing the top section to be pivoted relative to the vessel body about the hinge. This process is carried out in such a way as to cause the top section to be moved outwardly over the operating platform following which the top section is gently lowered onto such platform. Following this, the top section is disconnected from the vessel body at the hinge and the necessary repairs to the top section are effected.

  • Patent number: 4131006
Abstract: Riveting apparatus is shown to comprise a riveting spindle mounted for vertical reciprocating movement in a frame under the influence of a cam controlled lever and a reacting spring means. A motor in driving relation to a rotary shaft embodied in the spindle operates a wobble type riveting tool. Depending on the embodiment the same or a separate motor functions to drive a cam device, through the medium of which the lever is uniformly and periodically cycled to produce a vertical movement of the spindle which carries the riveting tool to and from an underlying work piece. One end of the lever is connected with the spindle while the other is pivotally anchored to the projected extremity of the piston rod of an air cylinder. The latter may be set to fix the operative position of the projected extremity of the piston rod and thereby the pivot point of the lever.
