  • Patent number: 5914153
Abstract: A resin application apparatus used in the production of oriented strand board has a rotary atomizer supported within a drum for containing and tumbling wood flakes. A spinning cup is rotatably supported by a housing of the atomizer, with a gap formed between an outer surface of the cup and the housing. A supply line provides resin to the spinning cup for atomization thereof and coating of the tumbling wood flakes. A passageway is formed in the housing terminating in an outlet proximate the spinning cup. Solvent is flowed through the passageway and out of the outlet, sweeping away any accumulated material in the gap and on the spinning cup and housing. The cleaning operation is performed simultaneous with the flow and atomization of the resin, whereby the resin application process continues without interruption.

  • Patent number: 5906676
Abstract: An apparatus and method of reclaiming particles of powder material from a powder spray system (100) having an inlet passageway (190) of a collection subsystem (104) in fluid communication with an interior of a spray booth (108). An airflow conduit (250) extends between a trough (140) located under a conveyor belt (130) which in turn is located below the spray booth (108) and the inlet passageway (190) of the collection subsystem (104). Airflow through the airflow conduit (250) is augmented by a compressed air injector (280) disposed in the airflow conduit (250) and oriented so that it ejects compressed air in the direction of the inlet passageway (190). In this manner, particulate matter (overspray) settling in the trough (140) becomes entrained in an airstream (252) flowing into the collection subsystem (104). The collection subsystem (104) suitably includes a cyclone separator (170) and a filter stack (200).

  • Patent number: 5906682
Abstract: A system for dispensing a viscous material onto a substrate which includes a dispensing element, a viscous material reservoir and a metering device coupled between the reservoir and the dispensing element for metering a variable amount of a viscous material through the dispensing element. The dispensing element and metering device can be moved by a positioner along a predetermined pattern adjacent a surface of a substrate. A weigh scale located adjacent the substrate receives a metered amount of the viscous material and produces signals representative of a variable weight of the material dispensed during a predetermined time interval. A controller adjusts a speed of movement of the positioner along the predetermined pattern to cause the dispensing element to dispense a desired amount of material based on a calculated flow rate.

  • Patent number: 5873939
Abstract: A dual track stencil system includes a first set of rails and a second set of rails, each of the rails being independently controlled for allowing for independent movement of circuit boards through the stencil system for processing. The stencil system includes a working area, at which the circuit boards are stenciled. A stencil, having two patterns, each aligned with a respective working area of each track is suspended above the dual track system. A solder dispensing unit including a squeegee arm is suspended above the stencil, parallel to and centered between the two tracks. During operation, a circuit board enters the working area, is raised to engage with the stencil, and the squeegee arm traverses that portion of the stencil pattern currently engaging the board, thereby dispensing solder through the pattern and stenciling the board. The stencil system operates to process two boards on one track before advancing to the second track for processing another pair of boards.

  • Patent number: 5868840
Abstract: A spray gun for applying a liquid spray coating, such as paint, to a surface incorporates a light source and detection system for analyzing the position of the spray gun relative to a worksurface in order to optimize application of the coating to the surface. The light source is preferably in the form of a laser which emits a beam of light toward the worksurface. The laser is interconnected with the housing of the spray gun in a location over the spray gun handle so as not to effect the center of gravity of the spray gun. Optical sensors are mounted to the spray gun housing for receiving light reflected from the work-surface, and the sensors are interconnected with a processor for providing the operator with a real time visual indication as to compliance with predetermined paint application criteria. In addition, information can be stored to memory and downloaded for subsequent analysis.
