  • Patent number: 9824097
Abstract: A computer program product for managing and rendering one or more information nodes relative to a current focus. The computer program product receives one or more principal topics from an analysis of the information nodes. The computer program product determines a topic vector from a similarity of a first information node to each of the principal topics and a map from the topic vector to a storage location of the first information node. The computer program product determines one or more current topics from a second information node that has been recently accessed by a user and a current focus vector from a similarity of the one or more current topics to the one or more principal topics. The computer program product renders the current focus vector and the first information node according to a rendering algorithm that is applied to the current focus vector and the first information node.

  • Patent number: 9811425
Abstract: A data backup manager links data backup robustness to an external state. The data backup manager monitors the external state. Responsive to the external state, the data backup manager adjusts parameters controlling data backup, such as backup frequency, backup content, and backup retention time. The data backup manager can increase these parameters responsive to an increase in an external distress state level, and decrease them in response to a decrease in the external distress state level.

  • Patent number: 9811572
Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and apparatus for expanding a row or column in an existing report, sourced from a relational database, where a column or row, respectively, of an opposite axis has already been expanded. Such a need often arises in reports sourced from a SQL database, and overcomes the storage-draining need to precompute all possible arrangements of data from the database prior to displaying the report. In some embodiments, a client can make a request for a multi-axis expansion, and a server can create filters for use in sub queries, one for each level of expansion in an axis of the report opposite to the axis where expansion is requested, the sub queries can be executed, results sets can be combined/formatted to form a new report, and the new report can be returned to the client for stitching into the existing report.

  • Patent number: 9785674
Abstract: A method is provided for compressing results of a join query. A join order of a result set is determined from the join query, where the result set includes a plurality of tuples. A plurality of dictionary entries for the result set is received. A nested hierarchy of dictionaries is created based on the join order and the dictionary entries. A plurality of encoded tuples is received. The nested hierarchy of dictionaries is used by a processor to decode the plurality of encoded tuples so as to produce the plurality of tuples of the result set.

  • Patent number: 9767154
Abstract: Techniques for improving data compression of a storage system in an online manner are described herein. According to one embodiment, in response to a sequence of data to be stored, the sequence of data is partitioned into a plurality of data chunks according to a predetermined chunking algorithm. A sketch for each of the data chunks is generated based on one or more features extracted from the data chunk. Each of the data chunks of the sequence of data is associated with one of a plurality of groups based on the sketch, wherein each group is represented by a sketch. The data chunks of each group are compressed and stored in a compression region of the storage systems, such that similar data chunks are compressed and stored in the same compression region.

  • Patent number: 9747301
Abstract: A cluster of nodes in a distributed file system may include; at least two namenodes, each coupled to a plurality of data nodes and each configured to store a state of a namespace of the cluster and each being configured to respond to a request from a client while other(s) of the namenodes are responding to other requests from other clients; and a coordination engine coupled to each of the namenodes. The coordination engine may be configured to receive proposals from the namenodes to change the state of the namespace by replicating, deleting and/or adding data blocks stored in the data nodes and to generate, in response, an ordered set of agreements that specifies an order in which the namenodes are to change the state of the namespace. The namenodes are configured to delay making changes thereto until after the ordered set of agreements is received from the coordination engine.

  • Patent number: 9733966
Abstract: A system for providing real-time streaming of data in non-POSIX formats to systems in POSIX formats in the general context of system backup and recovery. The system uses an index to manage storage and retrieval of data in non-POSIX formats. While retrieving the backup, the system presents a virtual volume to a hypervisor or other similar device to create a virtual machine that allows the user to make read or write requests with respect to the backup before it is completely restored. The system merges any changes to the virtual volume, due to write requests, with the complete, backed-up volume. In one embodiment, a system backup is stored in object storage and can be recovered in real-time, allowing a user to access and use the system before it has finished recovering.
