Abstract: A communication system comprises a set of specialized backend servers 100 and groups of terminals (210, 220) connected through the Internet. Users of the communication system can make video calls and share text messages, images and video clips through the terminals (210, 220). The terminals in this system are organized into private terminal groups 200 of varying sizes. Each group has only one controller terminal 210 and one or more display terminals 220. Both types of terminals provide an easy-to-use graphic user interface for the user to access the communication services provided by the system. Communication and information sharing between any display terminals must be pre-authorized by their controllers. This communication system, while ensuring security and privacy, addresses the needs of caregiver groups that include caregiver professionals, family members and care receivers, to facilitate private conference calls, information sharing and caring activity coordination.

Abstract: A computing system and method that can be used for a video conferencing system including a graphical user interface having a virtual whiteboard user interface that is responsive to inputs from multiple attendees of a video conference. In particular, the state of an application tool such as a camera, visual note indicator, web link, pen/pencil tool, highlighter tool, or other application tool executing or otherwise represented within the multi-user interaction whiteboard can respond and change in real-time as multiple attendees of the video conference interact with the virtual whiteboard user interface. The systems and methods of the present disclosure allow for a multi-user interaction whiteboard to offer various tools for the video conferencing system to facilitate interactions by multiple attendees within the graphical user interface.

The method includes capturing a plurality of video frames of a user's body and processing the plurality of video frames to allow detecting a portion of the user's body and to allow recognizing hand gestures. In response to detecting the portion of the user's body, the method includes generating at least one widget interaction region corresponding to the portion of the user's body. The method further includes recognizing, a mid-air hand gesture in the at least one widget interaction region, mapping the mid-air hand gesture to at least one virtual widget on the gesture-controlled device, and manipulating the at least one virtual widget based on the mid-air hand gesture. The method and device allow manipulation of virtual widgets using mid-air gestures on a gesture-controlled device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented to facilitate caching of programming from broadcast and/or content streaming services to a user device for local playback. In addition, metadata can be provided to guide the user in selecting, caching, or playing the cachable content. In some exemplary embodiments, a receiver or other user device can automatically select the programming to be cached based on a user's historical topic interest and listening history. In some exemplary embodiments, the metadata can also include DRM information that can limit the ability of a user to playback the content, so as to comply, if necessary, with operative legal requirements related to usage of the content.

Abstract: Described is a poll-based system that provides an on-line and mobile network of users and products, goods and services that are determined through polling each of the users. The system compares, in real-time, the current user's polling responses to identify which most similarly match the answered questions to that of the user. As the user progressively answers questions, the system updates the matching and presentation other users and of products, goods and services. Thus, as the user answers polling questions, the selected answers are compared against the selected descriptions of other products, goods and services, or general questions, to generate a likelihood of match between the users, and also each of the products, goods and services. The profiles of products, goods and services that have a likelihood of match within a predetermined threshold are then presented, including links within the profile for specific purchases.
