Abstract: A display control apparatus includes a first display control unit for controlling displaying a first representative image in a first folder on a first area of a display screen with first content recorded on a recording medium thereof belonging to the first folder, a second display control unit for controlling displaying a second representative image in a second folder on a second area of the display screen with second content supplied from a partner apparatus connected thereto via a network and belonging to the second folder, and a third display control unit for controlling displaying, on a third area of the display screen, a thumbnail image of one of the first content and the second content corresponding to one of the first folder and the second folder selected using one of the first representative image and the second representative image.

Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display on which an image is displayed, an interface feasible to communicate with an image source and to receive identification information of an authentication device, which is disposed on the image source and includes the identification information, from the image source, a data storage in which at least one registration-recognition information is saved, and a controller to decide whether to display the image corresponding to an image signal received from the image source on the display based on a determination of whether the identification information received through the interface is consistent with the registration-recognition information saved in the data storage.

Abstract: The invention relates to a data processing system enabling a user to view or edit a document. When the user scrolls the document over a relatively large distance within a short time period, the system automatically adjusts the zoom factor so as to provide the user with a better overview during scrolling. When the user has finished scrolling, the zoom factor may be reinstated to its initial value.

Abstract: A system, method and apparatus is provided for automatic refresh of webpages. In one embodiment, the invention is a method. The method includes detecting a series of refresh requests for a first webpage exceeding a predetermined threshold within a period of time less than a predetermined time threshold. The method also includes setting a proposed refresh time to an interval of a set of predetermined intervals. The interval is the interval nearest to an average interval for the series of refresh requests within the series of predetermined intervals. The method additionally includes querying a user to begin an autorefresh for the first webpage. The method further includes receiving authorization to autorefresh the first webpage. The method also includes initiating autorefresh of the first webpage.

Abstract: Mechanisms are disclosed that enable a user to customize selection elements of a GUI. For example, menu entries in a GUI can be customized so that the user can specify the font, the language, character sets, color, and other attributes of the text of one menu item (or less than all menu items); to have the ability to selectively activate multimedia options associated with selected menu items (e.g., to play a sound whenever the cursor/pointer passes over a particular menu item); and/or to assign an animation sequence that is unique to selected menu items. The menu item properties are defined by the user, using, for example, a dialog box that allows specification of the attributes. When the application is installed, a default set of menu item properties is defined by the software manufacturer, which can be further customized by the user.

Abstract: A method, and apparatus, and a software product for implementing a method for interacting with a computer-based management system including authoring and communicating composite data messages, each composite data message comprising both free-text and structured data, such that the structured data represents the intended meaning of the free-text in a form understandable by the computer-based management system. In one version, authoring includes converting free-text to structured data. One version includes communicating the composite message.

Abstract: An engine is provided for displaying an application for hosting a second application. The hosting application can be a sidebar on a display. The engine can contain a part or program which can include a manifest file, a definition file and/or a script file. The manifest file may contain a pointer to at least one of the definition file and the script file. The engine may also contain a loader that can locate the definition file and/or script file (e.g., via pointers in the manifest file) and load the definition file and/or script files of the part for processing. The engine may also execute script associated with the part and convert an object model into a user interface which can be displayed at a predetermined location on a display or docked onto a sidebar. The user interface can further be manipulated or relocated within the sidebar or removed (i.e., undocked) from the sidebar.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for browser operation that enable a user to automatically create and maintain links to browsed resources meeting selection criteria. Two species of such links are disclosed, known as “smart links” and “dynamic favorites”. Creation of these links enable automatic creation and maintenance of dynamic libraries of links to network resources. These libraries are sharable with collaborators.

Abstract: Methods for displaying a set of hierarchical data and a set of non-hierarchical data on an electronic display comprise displaying at least part of the set of hierarchical data in a tree diagram that has a plurality of levels with one or more nodes present at each level, and displaying the set of non-hierarchical data in a plurality of auxiliary nodes that are provided in between levels of the tree diagram. Expansion handles may also be displayed adjacent nodes in the tree diagram. These expansion handles may be configured to expand or collapse the tree diagram at the node they are adjacent to. The expansion handles may optionally be configured to display or hide selected of the auxiliary nodes.

Abstract: Computer screen legibility is controlled. A logically topmost software window of a particular color and of a certain transparency is created. Additionally, a pattern is used to further control legibility. The window allows screen objects logically beneath it on a z-axis to be viewed and manipulated and the window reduces a contrast of screen objects logically beneath it on the z-axis.

Abstract: A system that provides binds or associates a clickable hyperlink with an object that appears in a video stream. The hyperlink may be sent in a separate stream from the video stream, and user interfaces are provided to a user to activate the hyperlink. Activation of the hyperlink may cause a redirection to an associated website. Furthermore, feedback may be provided as to the user's activity regarding interest and activation regarding particular hyperlinks in the video.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for controlling a web browser session. A system for controlling a web browser session comprises an emulating engine for automatic control of a web browser session by processing a script. The system further comprises a controlling engine for receiving a plurality of scripts and managing the distribution of the scripts to several emulating engines. A method for controlling a web browser session comprises providing a controller for receiving a script comprising unique tags and managing the script, including assigning the script to an emulator. The emulator then processes the script.

Abstract: A system may include a selection tool configured to determine a selection of a file icon that is displayed on a user interface and that represents a file associated with an application. The selection tool may be further configured to determine a result-class associated with the selection. A parser may be configured to determine one or more rules associated with the result-class, access content of the file by way of an application program interface associated with the application, and parse the content of the file for a target-result, based on the result-class and the one or more rules. Presentation logic may be configured to provide at least a portion of the target-result in visual proximity to the file icon within the user interface.

The storage device is operable to store instructions that, when executed by the processor, display on the display a graphical user interface that includes a plurality of objects. The plurality of objects each have a substantially similar shape. Each object includes a plurality of menu items visible on the object and one or more of the menu items are associated with applications.

Abstract: In a cell based EUI, existing display container cells nested within a “host” display container cell are automatically shifted and/or downsized, if necessary, to increase available space to facilitate the creation of another display container cell nested within the “host” display container cell, in response to a request to perform the creation. Similar shifting and/or downsizing are performed to facilitate expansion of one of the nested display container cells; and shifting and upsizing are performed to facilitate contraction of one of the nested display container cells. In one embodiment, shifting and/or downsizing/upsizing are performed in view re-sizing priorities of the display container cells and attributes of a host display container cell governing placement and/or alignment of immediately nested display container cells. In one embodiment, an efficient extended boundary method is employed.

Abstract: Systems and methods which implement rendition-based graphical layout management techniques are shown. According to an embodiment, desired resizing of items within a program's user interface is managed through a developer graphically describing a plurality of different sized renditions of a desired user interface and other different sized renditions of the user interface being dynamically interpolated and/or extrapolated through operation of the program. According to embodiments, linear interpolation and/or extrapolation is provided with respect to windows sized differently than constraint images provided by a developer. In embodiments where more than 2 constraint images are provided, piece-wise liner interpolation and/or extrapolation may be provided. Non-linear interpolation and/or extrapolation may be implemented according to embodiments of the invention.

Abstract: System and method for visually indicating deployment of programs in a system. A client system includes a plurality of devices coupled together, where at least one of the devices includes one or more programs, e.g., graphical, text-based, and/or hardware configuration programs. A configuration diagram is displayed which visually represents the client system. The diagram includes device icons representing the devices, including a first device icon corresponding to a first device. A first program is deployed onto the first device. The configuration diagram is programmatically animated to visually indicate the deployment, e.g., a first program icon corresponding to the first program, or one or more other icons, may be propagated from a first location on the display, e.g., from a second device icon representing a second device initially storing the program, to the first device icon, possibly along link icons indicating coupling between the devices. The deployment may be performed programmatically.

The composer composes a web slide show presentation through automatic extraction of web page details from a desired web page. The web page details includes one or more of the following: a plurality of hyperlinks found within the desired web page that provides a plurality of URLs; a presentation/rendition text file within the desired web page that provides a plurality of URLs; and a meta tag within the desired web page that provides a plurality of URLs. The performer display the web slide show presentation in order of the plurality of URLS provided by the extracted web page details.

Abstract: A control of a window-based interactive user interface (210) includes at least two overlapping display and control windows (220, 230). When one display and control window (220) is activated, the other display and control window (230) is automatically reduced in size to such an extent that it is represented in its entirety on the interactive user interface (210) without overlapping the display and control window (220). The activation of the display and control window (220) is preferably triggered by an optical cursor (211).
