  • Patent number: 7089920
Abstract: In a diagnostic apparatus for an evaporative emission control system having a fuel tank is hermetically sealed under negative pressure on the basis of target inner pressure, and leak of the evaporative emission control system is judged when a diagnosis value based on a pressure variation amount after the hermetical sealing under at least negative pressure is larger than a judgment value, ECU estimates an evaporated fuel generated amount on the basis of a tank inner pressure value at the start time of a diagnosis. When the evaporated fuel generated amount thus estimated is large, target inner pressure Pteb is set to a high value, and when the evaporated fuel generated amount thus estimated is small, the target inner pressure Pteb is set to a low value.

  • Patent number: 7086389
Abstract: A general-purpose engine includes a canister for adsorbing fuel vapor that has evaporated within a fuel tank. The fuel vapor, which has desorbed from the canister, is guided to an intake system communicating with an engine main body. A housing recess is formed in a base of the fuel tank, recesses toward the interior of the fuel tank, and houses the canister. Thus, an external impact to the canister can be avoided while also avoiding any increase in the dimensions of the general-purpose engine.

  • Patent number: 7086383
Abstract: A purge valve is in fluid communication between a fuel vapor collection canister and an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. The purge valve includes a body, a seat, a head, and a solenoid. The body defines a fuel vapor flow path between a first port is in fluid communication with the fuel vapor collection canister, and a second port is in fluid communication with the intake manifold. The seat defines an aperture through which the fluid flow passes in an open configuration of the purge valve. The head includes a permanent magnet, and is attracted to the seat and occludes the aperture in a closed configuration of the purge valve. The solenoid repels the head toward the open configuration when the solenoid is energized, and the head occludes the aperture due to the magnetic attraction with the seat when the solenoid is de-energized.

  • Patent number: 7082914
Abstract: The method for controlling an idle stop-and-go system is based on one or more engine control modes, including a starting mode wherein an engine control unit (ECU) starts an engine by an engine stop release signal received from a starter/generator control unit (SCU), a normal mode for normally operating the engine, and an after-run mode wherein the ECU stops the engine based on an engine stop signal received from the SCU. Initially, it is determined whether a present engine control mode is the normal mode. Thereafter, it is determined whether an engine stop signal is received from the SCU. The engine control mode is then changed to the after-run mode whern the present engine control mode is the normal mode and an engine stop signal is received from the SCU. Finally, the engine warning lamp is blocked from illuminating.

  • Patent number: 7080631
Abstract: A fuel injection pump includes a camshaft, an eccentric cam, a cam ring, a housing and plungers. The camshaft is rotated by an engine. The cam is provided separately from the camshaft and is formed with a connecting portion connected with the main shaft. The cam rotates with the camshaft. The cam ring revolves around the camshaft so that the cam ring rotates with respect to the cam along an outer periphery of the cam. The housing rotatably houses the cam and the cam ring and is formed with fuel pressurizing chambers. The plungers reciprocate in accordance with the revolution of the cam ring to pressurize and to pressure-feed fuel drawn into the fuel pressurizing chambers. Strength of the connecting portion is set to a value lower than damage strength of the housing.

  • Patent number: 7077101
Abstract: A hybrid fuel injection system which allows electronic control over the injection processes, wherein selective rate shaping and multiplicity of injections is possible. The hybrid fuel injection system consists of an add-on common rail system (CRS) which provides supplemental fuel injections with respect to the main fuel injections provided by a unit pump system (UPS). Additionally, the CRS can serve to provide fuel injections as necessary to effect a “limp-home” mode of engine operation in the event of a failure of the UPS. Both the CRS and the UPS use common fuel supply, return, injector, and electronic controller.

  • Patent number: 7077107
Abstract: Fuel injection system having a feed pump by which fuel is pumped out of a fuel tank to the intake side of a high-pressure pump pumps fuel into a reservoir as a function of engine operating parameters. A fuel metering device is provided for adjusting the fuel quantity pumped into the reservoir by the high-pressure pump. An electrically actuated blocking valve is disposed between the feed pump and the high-pressure pump, and by means of this valve the high-pressure pump can be disconnected completely from the feed pump.
