  • Patent number: 5411276
Abstract: A roller skate brake for a roller skate having at least two rolling wheels mounted in-line. Each rolling wheel has a circumferential surface and is rotatably mounted to the roller skate about a rolling wheel axle. The brake includes a braking wheel also having a circumferential surface. The braking wheel is rotatably mounted about the roller skate about a braking wheel axle approximately parallel the rolling wheel axle. The braking wheel is mounted to the roller skate so that the circumferential surface of the roller skate wheel can be brought into contact with the circumferential surface of the rolling wheel. The brake also includes a braking lever for braking the rotation of the braking wheel when in contact with the rolling wheel, thus braking the rolling wheel. The circumferential surface of the rolling wheel is generally convex and the circumferential surface of the braking wheel may be generally concave.

  • Patent number: 5407024
Abstract: An on demand vehicle drive system monitors vehicle performance and operating conditions and controls torque delivery to the vehicle wheels. The system includes a plurality of speed and position sensors, a transfer case having primary and secondary output shafts driving primary and secondary axles and a microcontroller. The sensors include a vehicle speed sensor, a pair of primary and secondary drive shaft speed sensors, and brake and driveline status sensors. The transfer case includes a modulating electromagnetic clutch controlled by the microcontroller which is incrementally engaged to transfer torque from the primary output shaft to the secondary output shaft. When the speed of either the front or the rear drive shafts overruns, i.e., exceeds, the speed of the other drive shaft by a predetermined value related to the vehicle speed, indicating that wheel slip is present, clutch current is incrementally increased to increase clutch engagement and torque transfer to the secondary axle.

  • Patent number: 5405156
Abstract: A skate with aligned wheels, comprising a support for an item of footgear from which a frame protrudes downward. The ends of respective wheel supporting trucks are pivoted to the frame. The peculiarity of the invention resides in the fact that two movable sliders are interposed between the trucks and the respective supports. Advantageously, at least one rubber pad is interposed between each truck and support. The skate allows the user to preset the degree of shock-absorption during skating by varying the position of the slider.

  • Patent number: 5393084
Abstract: A double lead-pup trailer assembly for container transport has swivel bunks enabling the container to be carried on the articulated trailers. The rear swivel bunk slides rotatably within a slot extending to the rear of the pup trailer allowing the container to be directly unloaded. The coupling means between the trailers is adjustable between a highway articulated driving relationship, and a backing up aligned relationship. One advantage is the gross vehicle weight and payload are improved. Another advantage is that the container more closely tracks the tractor and trailer wheels on turns, thus providing more manoeuvrability and safety.
