  • Patent number: 5712234
Abstract: Graffiti removers particularly useful for removing permanent ink from painted surfaces are disclosed. The graffiti removers include a dye solvent (a pyrrolidone or a lactone), a dye non-solvent (a glycol ether ester or a glycol diether), and a dye bleaching agent (an oxidizing agent, reducing agent, or base). The dye bleaching agent is the key to eliminating the problem of "ghosting" that is observed when conventional graffiti removers are used to remove permanent marker ink graffiti.

  • Patent number: 5704949
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the preparation of an aqueous hair dyeing composition containing an effective hair dyeing amount--at least 2 mg/ml--5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI). An aqueous hair dyeing composition is produced by reacting under essentially anaerobic conditions dopa or a salt thereof with an alkali metal ferricyanide oxidant in an aqueous reaction medium to obtain dopachrome, and permitting the dopachrome to undergo rearrangement in the aqueous medium to form 5,6-dihydroxyindole, said rearrangement being conducted in the substantial absence of oxidant, the aqueous medium being buffered by sufficient buffering agent to maintain a pH of from about 4.5 to about 9 for the reaction medium throughout the series of reactions that take place thereafter, removing the ferrocyanide species present in the aqueous system, and lastly, charging the composition into a suitable container.

  • Patent number: 5688291
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a single-step process and composition of a category-2 hair bleach which can simultaneously lighten the hair up to seven levels, and effectively neutralize any undesirable warmth that accompanies the lightening process. This is achieved by including in the bleach composition disperse dye molecules which the present invention has found to be both, stable in the bleach, and capable of depositing the desired amount of various permanent tones on the hair. These disperse dyes do not stain the scalp of the client or the hands of the hairdresser, but are substantive only to the hair fibers. The dyes fall into the classes of anthraquinones and azo compounds.
