  • Patent number: 4969822
Abstract: A telescopic oral orthopedic appliance aligns the upper and lower jaws for treatment of the temporomandibular joint. It includes an extensible-contractable positioning device which extends between and alters the position of the mandible relative to the maxillae. The device is attached to upper and lower sets of teeth by an anchor which is embedded in a pair of opposing channel members which fit over the apex and inwardly and outwardly facing walls of the clinical crowns of a series of adjacent teeth. The extensible-contractable device fits closely against the channel member to avoid rubbing the buccal mucosa of the wearer's mouth. The length of the device is selectively variable to alter the position of the mandible forward or backward without sudden jumps or the need for removing the appliance from the mouth.

  • Patent number: 4968251
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for an improvement in the treatment of a tooth or teeth. The improved method comprises the steps of making a model of the tooth and molding a stint to overlay the model of the tooth. The stint defines an internal region for receiving a retaining material therein. An active agent is inserted into the retaining material and the stint containing the retaining material and the active agent is placed upon the tooth. The improved apparatus comprises a stint having an internal region and an external region with the internal region of the stint being defined for overlaying the tooth. A retaining material is disposed within the internal region of the stint to retain the active agent for enabling the active agent to be maintained in contact with the tooth when the stint is inserted upon the tooth.

  • Patent number: 4967500
Abstract: An information display device has a display surface supported on a leg from the lower end of which one or more finger elements extend at a right angle to the display surface to detachably or permanently secure it to one of the jaws of a garment clamping hanger. The finger elements engage the rear jaw of the garment clamp in such a manner that the clamp will remain erect during handling of the hanger and its load and will not interfere with the loading and unloading of the hanger. While the fingers extend the length of the hanger, the display surface is positioned at a right angle thereto so the information of its display surface is visible from the end of the hanger.

  • Patent number: 4967496
Abstract: An apparatus which serves as both an advertising medium, for business cards as an example, and a means to dispense certain articles needed in a business establishment, comprises a multi-sided, substantially upright enclosure which includes walls upon which the business cards can be placed. In one embodiment, the enclosure is essentially a box with transparent sides, and the cards are placed against the inside surface of the walls. A supporting member for supporting the cards or other advertising media is inside and spaced from the enclosure to define a card receiving space. In another embodiment, a ledge is attached to the wall along with a bracing means to support it. The cards can be placed on the ledge where they are in view and from which they can be readily removed by an interested person. At the top of the enclosure in both embodiments is a receptacle where the articles, such as food products, are retained and from where they can be conveniently taken for use.

  • Patent number: 4968248
Abstract: An interdental immobilization device consists, in the preferred embodiment, of a longitudinal deformable shaft having a smooth cylindrical portion that terminates as a pointed tip at the distal end and a helical threaded portion at the proximate end. A nut defining an aperture therethrough matingly threads along the helical threaded portion and the length of the deformable shaft is such as to permit the distal portion of the cylindrical portion to encircle the tooth and to loop above the shaft over a segment of the helical threaded portion. In an alternative embodiment, the longitudinal shaft has a detent at the proximate end and there are anchoring fixtures in the form of truncated conics which are adapted to travel along the shaft. One of the fixtures anchors in the detent and the other, is engaged against adjacent teeth by the nut, when the nut is turned down on the helical thread.

  • Patent number: 4964770
Abstract: In a process of making artificial teeth horizontal or other contour lines are generated on the ground tooth stump and on adjacent surfaces, said lines are detected by optoelectronic means, the data which have thus been acquired are used to compute the three-dimensional shapes of the tooth stump and of the required artificial tooth, and an artificial tooth having the shape which has thus been determined is then made by processes known per se.

  • Patent number: 4961698
Abstract: An ultrasonic device includes an auxiliary chamber for receiving an additive in tablet form. The ultrasonic device includes an ultrasonic tool which is connected to an ultrasonic vibrator by a shank. A sleeve surrounds the shank and defines an annular space therewith. Cleansing fluid, in particular water, flows through the annular chamber and exits in the area of the tool. The auxiliary chamber is formed by an axial bore extending through the sleeve and communicating with the annular chamber. A cap closes the outer end of the bore and the bore is dimensioned for receiving a tablet containing the additive. Some of the fluid in the annular chamber passes through the auxiliary chamber to dissolve the tablet and introduce the additive into the stream of fluid before it is discharged at the ultrasonic tool.

  • Patent number: 4960113
Abstract: An erection aid comprises an annnular elastic tube which is inflatable to apply pressure to the base of the penis, reducing venous flow of blood while permitting arterial flow. A valve is provided for inflation. The annular tube is made with non-uniform wall thickness so that the inwardly facing portions of the wall are thinner and more easily deformable, permitting the desired pressure to be applied while minimizing axial deformation and thereby minimizing interference with normal functions. The thicker portions of the tube are sufficiently elastic to allow diametral increases as the penis becomes erect.

  • Patent number: 4958629
Abstract: The housing of an oral hygiene device is attachable to a water faucet. A regulator within the housing responds to the water which is subject to pressure variation. The regulator accommodates that variation in developing automatically a stream of water at a constant pressure. A turbine within the housing is caused to rotate in response to energy in the stream. A piston pump draws water deflected by impellers on the turbine and forms that water into a series of pulses. A flexible hose coupled to the housing includes a handle for directing the pulses against the teeth and gums of a user at a desired pressure.
