  • Patent number: 4400607
Abstract: An exchanging apparatus for exchanging welding jig units of an automatic welding apparatus on an assembly line. The automatic welding apparatus includes a combining station where a work to be assembled is combined and welded by detachable welding jig units, and a set carrier for moving the work along a conveying railway to and from the combining station. The exchanging apparatus comprises an exchanging railway which crosses the conveying railway through a switch mechanism and at least two exchanging carriers, each having thereon a gripping means for gripping a welding jig unit. Each of the above carriers is mounted on a plurality of wheels, each of which is turnable about a fixed vertical shaft on the respective carrier.

  • Patent number: 4400605
Abstract: A method of producing welded, thin-wall straight-seamed tubes comprises forming a strip in rolls of a tube-forming mill into a tube skelp, and then subjecting the latter to the inert-gas-shielded non-consumable electrode welding. The tube skelp is formed with a gap between edges being 1/500 to 1/30 to the tube-diameter-to-wall-thickness ratio, taken in mm. The rate of welding and the level of welding current are selected in accordance with the rate of heat release in the welding zone, which should be sufficient to close joint due to heat expansion of the tube skelp material and the formation of welding joint.

  • Patent number: 4399342
Abstract: A grating of metal longitudinal strips (1) standing on edge in parallel with one another and narrower metal cross-strips (3) parallel with one another, is (for the achievement of higher load capacity) produced in such a way that in the longitudinal strips (1) slots (2) of changing width are incorporated, in which the inside width of the slot at the open end of the slot is chosen to the greater than, but on the contrary remote from this end of the slot is chosen to be less than the thickness of the cross-strips (3), cross-strips (3) are inserted into these slots (2) with the application to the strips (1, 3) of a welding voltage serving for the resistance welding, and with the application of pressure in the direction of insertion, so that material driven out from the edges of the slots forms weld beads (9) at the points of intersection of the strips.

  • Patent number: 4396899
Abstract: A platinum thin film is formed by sputtering platinum onto an insulating substrate and heat aging the platinum thin film in a stairstep manner. A kerf is formed in the platinum thin film to produce a desired resistance, and a metal oxide semiconductor film is thereafter deposited on the platinum thin film to produce a gas sensor.

  • Patent number: 4396819
Abstract: A method of forming a conductive connection between predominantly miniature members by pressing the members together and heating by means of electrodes through which three successive pulses of electric current are passed. First and second pulses act to break a flowable insulation coating of one of the members, melt a solder alloy in the location of the connection and effect a weld, while a third current pulse is applied to the electrodes prior to their raising from the members to thereby melt the solder alloy and flowable insulation coating, whereafter the electrodes are withdrawn from the members and the third current pulse is quenched.

  • Patent number: 4393297
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved method for arc cutting of metal, more specifically a method in which an electric arc is formed between the metal and a cutting torch and gas is blown into the cut during the cutting process. According to the invention a paste is injected through the torch into the region of the arc, said paste containing a finely-divided electrically conducting substance mixed with a carrier and acting as an electrode which causes the electric arc to be struck. The conducting substance may contain e.g. metal powder, such as powder of aluminium or of an aluminium alloy, to which also carbon and phosphorus may be added.

  • Patent number: 4389558
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus and a method for assembling a thermostatic type bellows unit of the type having a cup shaped bellows housing and disposed in spaced relation thereto a corrugated cup shaped diaphragm having a rigid annular flange. The assembling involves pressure welding the diaphragm flange to the housing. The apparatus includes a bottom electrode having a chamber for receiving and supporting the bellows unit and an upper electrode having a central projection which protrudes into the diaphragm and a surrounding collar for biasing the diaphragm flange into abutting engagement with the upper edge of the housing. A suction system including a passage in the electrode projection provides a partial vacuum for drawing the diaphragm into engagement with said upper electrode projection. The chamber is then flushed with a flushing medium.
