  • Patent number: 9449574
Abstract: In a video voltage comparator circuit, an average of first video voltages applied to pixel electrodes of pixels in the second-half rows in a k-th frame period (k is a natural number) is compared with an average of second video voltages applied to pixel electrodes of pixels in the first-half rows in a (k+1)th frame period for each row. In an overdrive voltage switching circuit, when a difference obtained from the comparison in the video voltage comparator circuit is greater than or equal to a threshold value, the overdrive voltage in the (k+1)th frame period is switched to a first overdrive voltage, and when the difference obtained from the comparison in the video voltage comparator circuit is less than the threshold value, the overdrive voltage in the (k+1)th frame period is switched to a second overdrive voltage lower than the first overdrive voltage.

  • Patent number: 9442574
Abstract: A touch sensing apparatus includes a group of emitters arranged to emit light to illuminate at least part of the touch surface, a light detector arranged to receive light from the group of emitters, and a processing element. Each emitter is controlled to transmit a code by way of the emitted light such that the code identifies the respective emitter. The codes may at least partly be transmitted concurrently. The codes may be selected such that a value of an autocorrelation of each code is significantly higher than a value of a cross-correlation between any two codes of different emitters. The processing element processes an output signal from the light detector to separate the light received from the individual emitters based on the transmitted codes, and to determine the position of the object/objects based on the light received from the individual emitters.

  • Patent number: 9207810
Abstract: A set of optical fibers can be used to enable touch input for a computing device. One or more light sources, such as infrared (IR) light emitting diodes (LEDs), can direct radiation into one or more fibers that propagates down the fibers and is detected by one or more sensors. If a user places a finger at a position where a portion of a fiber is exposed, a portion of the light propagating down the fiber will not undergo total internal reflection (TIR) and instead will be transmitted out of the fiber, causing a reduction in the amount of light received from that fiber to one of the sensors. By monitoring losses for the fibers and knowing the area at which each fiber is exposed, locations at which the losses occur can be determined. These locations can correspond to various types of user input.

  • Patent number: 9208730
Abstract: A method of optimizing the luminance level of a backlight system is presented. The method entails dividing the backlight system into zones, each of the zones having a light source; determining a target illumination level for each of the zones based on data values of a display panel that is to be illuminated by the backlight system; and setting a backlight drive value of the light source in a particular zone based on target illumination level of the particular zone and a backlight drive value assigned to its neighboring zone. The invention makes high-quality image display achievable with reduced power consumption by taking advantage of the “communal” aspect of the zones in a local dimming backlight system. In determining the backlight drive value of a zone, the invention takes into account the illumination contributions from neighboring zones.
