  • Patent number: 7313409
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmit power control (TPC) while switching a beam among a plurality of beams in a wireless communication system. An antenna array generates a plurality of directional beams and preferably an omni-directional pattern and switches a beam among the plurality of beams preferably including the omni-directional pattern. Link quality on at least one of the plurality of beams is measured, and a beam having a greatest link quality is selected. If the selected beam is different from a current beam, a beam is switched from the current beam to the selected beam. While switching a beam, TPC parameters are adjusted based on the link quality difference between the link quality of the current beam and the link quality of the selected beam, and optionally, base on other parameters.

  • Patent number: 7310504
Abstract: A method and system characterizes an IF response of a receiver under test, such that an effect on the characterization by errors associated with uncertainties in knowledge of an RF stimulus signal used to perform the characterization is reduced. The method includes determining an estimate of an actual IF response of the receiver under test from IF responses of the receiver under test measured at overlapping frequency bands and a set of conversion coefficients computed therefrom, such that the estimate reduces the effect of the errors. The system includes a signal generator, an IF processor, a computer program, and a controller that controls the generator and the processor and executes the computer program. When a receiver under test is characterized, the receiver is connected between the signal generator, the IF processor and the controller. The computer program includes instructions that implement characterizing the receiver IF response.

  • Patent number: 7299023
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for automatic frequency correction of a local oscillator. The apparatus receives a carrier signal. The carrier signal includes a code sequence known to the apparatus. The apparatus downconverts the carrier signal to a baseband signal using the local oscillator. The apparatus performs a block correlation of the samples of the baseband signal with the known code sequence to generate a frequency error signal. The frequency error signal is fed back to the local oscillator to correct the frequency error.

  • Patent number: 7292609
Abstract: The N peaks are selected from a delay profile in order starting from the highest peak involved in the delay profile, the path level and path timing are determined for each of the selected peaks, and the identical paths individually responsible for different delay profiles are detected by comparing the path timings calculated for the preceding time and the path timings calculated for the present time. Based of the path levels calculated for the preceding time and the path levels calculated for the present time, averaged path levels are computed on a path-by-path basis for the present time, a predetermined threshold is applied to the computed average path levels, and the paths to be allocated to the fingers are selected. Of the path timings that have been obtained for respective selected paths, the latest path timings are allocated to the fingers as synchronization timings.

  • Patent number: 7292592
Abstract: Home network-assisted selection of an intermediary service network for a roaming mobile terminal is disclosed. The selection is based on a list of desired intermediary service networks generated using information associated with the mobile terminal's home service network. In one example embodiment, the list is provided to a central access server, which provides this information to a local access network to which the mobile terminal is requesting access. The local access network selects one of the networks included on the list of desired intermediary service networks obtained from the central access server. This example embodiment uses existing protocols without modification, and can be used in conjunction with other intermediary service network selection procedures, if desired.

  • Patent number: 7280839
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to suppress an abrupt gain change and smoothly and highly accurately control transmitted electric power even if the transmitted electric power greatly changes when a closed loop control that crosses the threshold value as the detection limit of the transmitted electric power. The transmitted electric power of a self-station is detected to obtain an error between the detected transmitted electric power of the self-station and transmitted electric power set in accordance with a transmitted electric power control bit sent to the self-station from the other station. A buffer unit such as a transmitted electric power deciding part, an error integrating part or the like is provided for preventing the obtained error from greatly changing upon great change of the transmitted electric power when the transmitted electric power is controlled by crossing the threshold value as the detection limit of the transmitted electric power.

  • Patent number: 7277688
Abstract: A wireless receiver includes a local oscillator, a mixer, a band pass filter, a DC offset determination module, a DC offset correction module, a subtraction module, and a down converter. The local oscillator produces a local oscillation that a mixer uses to down convert the RF information signal to produce a Very Low Intermediate Frequency (VLIF) information signal at a VLIF and having a DC offset. The band pass filter band pass filters the VLIF information signal. The DC offset determination module produces a DC offset indication for the VLIF information signal. The DC offset correction module generates a DC offset correction based upon the DC offset indication. The subtraction module subtracts the DC offset correction from the VLIF information signal to substantially remove a DC offset of the post-filtered VLIF information signal. The down converter down converts the VLIF information signal to a baseband information signal.

  • Patent number: 7269402
Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit device for communication is provided with a PLL circuit or the like formed therein, the PLL circuit which is capable of realizing the compensation of fluctuation due to temperature change, the inhibition of increase in the chip area and the ensurement of the performance margin, and which controls a VCO having multiple oscillation frequency bands. In the case where automatic calibration is performed by switching a switch to a side of a DC voltage source in the PLL circuit using a VCO having multiple oscillation bands, a tuning voltage (Vtune) of an RFVCO is fixed to a voltage value of a DC voltage source. However, since a temperature characteristic of canceling a VCO oscillation frequency is given to the DC voltage source, it is possible to minimize the influence on the band selection when a calibration table comes to no optimum one.

  • Patent number: 7269147
Abstract: Processing broadcast data in a mobile Ad-hoc network includes: determining if all of the broadcast packets have been received using a Latest Broadcast Count Number (NBC) stored in a neighbor table within a buffer of a pertinent node and Broadcast Count Number (BC) contained in the broadcast packets received from a transmitting node upon receipt of broadcast packets transmitted from the transmitting node. The Broadcast Count Number (BC) of the received broadcast packet is compared with a buffer size of the pertinent node if all of the broadcast packets transmitted from the transmitting node have been received. A hello packet for flushing a buffer of the transmitting node is generated and transmitted to the transmitting node, the buffer of the pertinent node is flushed, and the neighbor table of the flushed buffer is updated, if the Broadcast Count Number (BC) of the received broadcast packet exceeds the buffer size.

  • Patent number: 7266355
Abstract: A diversity receiver (60) has two diverse channels fed by the antennas, an adaptive equalizer (20,30) for each channel and a coefficient adapter (40) for adapting two sets of coefficients in a time shared manner for the equalizers. A combiner combines the equalized signals. By sharing one adapter for adapting the coefficients between two or more equalizers, the calculation load can be reduced. This is useful for small mobile terminals powered by battery, for use with GSM or UMTS or other radio networks. It can be applied to any type of equalizer, and using any manner of time sharing. The combiner can exploit any type of diversity between the equalized signals. The equalizers can output two equalized signal values in consecutive time slots, by reusing the same coefficients, while new coefficients are being calculated.
